Dat was een gelukkie, wat een heerlijk moment om tegen een
plaat als deze aan te lopen. Als ik calypso zoek kijk ik in het
bijzonder uit naar spul uit de jaren zestig, op de een of andere
manier vind ik dat de lekkerste sound. Als het dan ook nog eens
werk van Kitch betreft ben ik direkt verkocht. Dit is de elpee die
volgt op Kitch 67 die al eerder geplaatst was. Deze komt ook uit
dat mooie jaar, op Tropico en in prima conditie..

What a great moment when walking into an album like this one.
When searching for calypso, the sixties is the period I want to find
stuff from. Somehow I love the calypso from that era best. If it
concerns the work of Kitch on top of that, it pleases me extra.
This is the album that follows up Kitch 67, which you may find
at this page as well. The record we have today is from that same
year, on Tropico and in fine condition..

Deze week liep ik op de Utrechtse platenbeurs tegen dit werkje uit Oost
Africa aan. Sammy Mwambi werkte met Vuria Mwangeka Brothers maar
ook met Les Wanyika onder andere. Zijn warme stem ( als hij dat is )
pakt je vrijwel onmiddelijk, mij althans wel. Geef hem eens een kans
en luister. Op Polygramm Oost Africa, Nairobi Kenya. De nummers op
kant twee staan verkeerd om vermeld op de hoes,
heb ik hersteld natuurlijk. b-kant
heeft wat pops..

This week I came across this album by Sammy Mwambi and Mwangeka.
Warm voiced Sammy ( if that’s him )worked with les Wanyika and Vuria
Mwangeka Brothers among others. Incredible nice sound from Kenya/
Tanzania on Polygram East Africa, Nairobi. Got blown away from the
first seconds. Give it a try and enjoy. BTW, the tracks on side-b
were printed in the wrong order, I switched them back.

haalde. Uit 1977 en origineel van Editions Ya Yamba, Zaïre.
Nog zo’n topplaat uit de ‘african 360.000 serie’..

Twee van de nummers zijn geschreven door Djuna Djanana,
een door Yenga Yenga en drie door Koffi Olomide. De cavacha
op dit album is uit 1978 en rockt er lekker op los. Nog zo’n elpee
uit de ‘african 360.00 serie’ die nog ontbrak. Dit is je kans..

Een van de groten in vallenato was Luis Enrique Martinez.
Zijn platen zijn zeer lastig te vinden en daarom is het extra
mooi dat we er een hebben vandaag. Luis Enrique was de
winnaar van het prestigieuze Festval Vallenato in 1973. Op
deze elpee vinden we tien van de numers uit dat jaar.
Het vinyl is dunner dan ik ooit heb gezien en dat is jammer
voor een plaat als deze, reden is natuurlijk de oliecrisis uit
die tijd. Dun of dik, dit is een heerlijk stukje vallenato.

One of the greats in vallenato was Luis Enrique Martinez.
His records are quite hard to find so we’re extra lucky to
have one today. Luis Enrique was the winner of the pres-
tigious Festival Vallenato in 1973 and on this here album
we find ten of his songs from that year. The vinyl is thinner
than I ever saw which is a shame for a record like this.
It was caused by the oilcrisis from that time of course.
Thin or thick, this record contains a
delightful piece of vallenato.
