Benny Moré started his career with the Trio Matamoros in the 1940s
and after a tour in Mexico he decided to stay in the country. Both Moré
and dancer Ninón Sevilla made their cinematic debut in 1946’s Carita
de cielo, but Moré focused on his music career. In the late 1940s, he
sang guaracha-mambos with Perez Prado, achieving great success.
Moré returned to Cuba in 1952 and worked Read More (Wikipedia)

Good morning fellow music lovers, as you might have seen
Jillem at HTD just posted Lucho Bermudez‘ collector that was
released by my friends of Radio Martiko from Gent , Belgium.
Wonderful music, in a later stage I will post some old originals
from his hand. Another famous orchestral leader from the same
period was Pacho Galán. He was called ‘The King of Merecumbé’.
Today I bring you this album on which a bunch of his merecumbé.
Pacho began his musical career from very young, age 14 he played
violin and clarinet and made his first composition. As bonus tracks
I added some of his greatest hits, ‘Boquita Sala’, ‘Fiesta de Cumbia’,
‘Cumbia Alegre’ and ‘Ay Cosita Linda’. Enjoy listening ..

Goeiemorgen muziek vrienden, zoals je wellicht hebt gezien postte

geleden dat we het echte Dominicaanse spul hadden. Éen
van m’n top favorieten op dat gebied is absoluut de

For this sunday we’ve got another album with Theo Blaise Kounkou.
It has no year of release, but I suspect it to be from the second half
of the eighties. Once more Theo brought along Master Mwana Congo
and to my pleasure Lokassa ya Mbongo and Dally Kimoko. Some keys
are present, not too many however, the three guitar heroes save the
album to my opinion. Quite up-tempo and strong soukous ..

Voor deze zondag hebben we dit album met Theo Blaise Kounkou
geselecteerd. Er is geen jaar van uitgifte bekend, maar ik verwacht
dat het in de tweede helft van de jaren tachtig moet zijn geweest.
Wederom bracht Theo Master Mwana Congo mee en tot mijn ge-
noegen ook Lokassa ya Mbongo en Dally Kimoko. We horen wat
toetsen, maar gelukkig niet teveel, de drie gitaar helden redden
de plaat wat mij betreft. Tamelijk sterke soukous ..

de Majagual, the group where so many famous Colombian
artists started their careers in. The pile of records this band
made is enormous. This is their 1965 release and their sixth
or seventh, they began recording in 1962. Don’t miss it ..

One of the hottest voices in reggae music belongs to Lee
van Cleef, who took his name from the famous movie actor.
We only find his two albums from 1982, the singles ‘Wiser
than Solomon’ and ‘Different Fashion’ were already on my
Reggae Monster Originals comps. I’m glad to bring the
Reggae Sunsplash elpee today. My copy only had a
white sleeve, took the covers from the web ..

Sinds begin jaren tachtig was ik al gek van de singles, ‘Wiser
than Solomon’ an ‘Different Fashion’ welke je op twee van
de Reggar Monster Originals compilations kunt vinden. Op
elpee heeft Lee van Cleef slechts twee albums uitgebracht.
Zijn stem is een van de mooiste in het veld. Blij vandaag de
tweede te brengen, mijn plaat had alleen een witte hoes,
ik heb de andere voor je van het web gehaald, luister ..

Until today we had only two records with the late Jewel Ackah.
We also had two on which he participated. One with Safohene
Djeni and one with Awieama Little John. Yester day I found this
album from 1986 on a small market in my hometown. Jewel’s
career spanned from 1974 until half 90’s.
He died in april 2018, age 73.

Tot op heden hadden we slechts twee platen met wijlen Jewel
Ackah. We hadden ook twee albums waarop hij deelnam. Een
met Safohene Djeni en een met Awieama Little John. Gisteren
vond ik deze elpee op een kleine platenmarkt in Hilversum.
Jewel’s muzikale carrière spande van 1974 tot ergens
halverwege de 90’s. Hij overleed in april 2018, 73 jr.

They were crazy about the Peugeot 504 in
those days, I count at least 12 ..

An Etsakor highlife record with quite a different sound
than the ones we’ve heard before is this one with Sir
Maliki Shoman & the Golden 9 of Africa. It is very laid-back
and relaxed. Sir Maliki brings an ode to the drivers community.

“The driver has a duty being a driver. Without them, you wouldn’t
travel via road. Join me in thanking the drivers. Remember that it
matters not if the driver is a driver of Volks, Taxi etc. Blessing
unto those entitled as drivers ……… And praise and gratitude
be to the elders, in the scenery of music. More grease to
their elbows and ……. pats on their back.” (Sir Maliki Shoman)

Deze Etsakor highlife plaat klinkt tamelijk anders dan degene
die we eerder hoorden. Het is er een met Sir Maliki Shoman &
the Golden 9 of Africa. Hij is zeer relaxed, Sir Maliki brengt
hier een ode aan de Chauffeurs gemeenschap ..

Oswaldo Sargentelli was a Brazillian radio and t.v. host. He called
himself a black man in a white body. Crazy about samba he was
the main force behind his Quadra Geral, the name under which
he released a number of samba albums with various artists. The
one we find today is from 1972 and presents several singers.
We know Pedrinho Rodrigues from various records. Listen ..

Oswaldo Sargentelli was een Braziliaanse radio en t.v. presentator.
Hij zag zichzelf als een zwarte man in een blank lichaam. Gek op samba
was hij de man achter zijn Quadra Geral, de naam waaronder hij diverse
samba albums lanceerde met verschillende artiesten. Dit is een plaat
uit 1972 waarop we meerdere zangers horen. Voor mij de meest
bekende is Pedrinho Rodrigues van wie we al wat elpees hadden.
