Juju lovers, Pay Attention ! I have heard a couple juju albums
but this is the most Funky Juju I have ever heard.
I now quote the backsleeve notes; “The tracks on this
album are a complete departure from the mainstream of juju format,
although Obey’s style and grace of delivery is very distinct.
Obey has attempted and achieved in this album a very high level
of sophistication through his powerful guitar fireworks, beautiful
lyrics and masterly instrumentation. As Obey himself said on one
of the tracks on the album, “THIS IS SOMETHING DIFFERENT” or to put
it in proper Yoruba language, “EYI YATO”.”tracks;

It was december 2008 when I posted some ‘Compas’, music
from Haiti. One of our loyal visitors from Paris gave
me the hint, I didn’t really know about compas. And after
some searching I found a couple LP’s, like this one. This
album from 1978 is a real treat. To you Arnaud, and to all
Compas lovers around the globe. Tomorrow is another
Recordfair in Utrecht, I intend to come home with
a few treasures, stay tuned..tracks;

One of the most perfect Congolese albums I have ever heard
is this one by Papa Noel. He was one of the original members
of ‘Les Bantous de la Capitale’. I think his guitarwork on
this LP is simply impeccable. Unfortunately the backsleeve
doesn’t give one line of information about the rest of the
musicians, is that Malage doing vocals ? If anyone can tell
us, that would be great. In the mean time enjoy this
beautiful album.tracks;

‘El Guapo de la Canción’ they called him, Rolando La’Serie used
to be percussionist in the original group of Benny Moré.
At first they didn’t think he could sing, but when he scored some
huge hits, he proved them all wrong. This is Rolando’s last
recording on Cuban soil. In 1960, after Fidel’s take over,
he left Cuba for the US where he played with lots of greats.
With ‘Tito Puente’ and with ‘Cortijo y su Combo’ among others.
This LP is with ‘Orquesta Sabor de Bebo Valdes’.tracks;

Yesterday evening I met my friend Bebeto in a local bar. He
used to live in Brasil for some 8 years when he was a youngster.
The titelsong of this album has a very special meaning to him,
but he didn’t have it himself. I promised to post it for him today.
For that same reason I decided to add a couple more versions as bonus.
Enjoy this Bebeto ! .. and everyone else too ofcourse.tracks;
