It’s purely coincidental this LP also shows a photo of the artist
with a burning cigarette. I was not looking for it, but when I
was ripping it I found out. I must say, it didn’t harm
Carlos Lyra’s voice aswell.Some two years ago I first got aquainted with the phenomena
of ‘Music Blogs’. It was because a friend pointed me the great
Loronix, the best blog on the web when it concerns Brazilian
music. I got hooked to visiting the Great Zeca Louro’s Loronix
and did not start one day without going there. Zeca, I want to
dedicate this album to you, without you I would not even know
about Carlos Lyra’s existence. Thank you so much for showing me
all that wonderful music, Loronix is not just a music blog,
it is a ‘Bossa Nova Institution’ and my great example !
Check Loronix at our sidebar !Carlos Lyra is one of the inventors of Bossa Nova, he was one
of the first to record a Bossa Nova album. Several of the songs
he wrote and co-wrote with for instance Vinicius de Moraes
became Bossa Nova standards later. A song like ‘Maria Ninguém’
was interpreted by practically every Brazilian musician.
Enjoy the Bossa Nova of Carlos Lyra.tracks;

Times they are changing, nowadays you’d never see an artist
on the cover of his or her CD with a burning cigarette in
their hands. In 1977 this was the most normal thing, and why not ?
Smoking didn’t effect Roberto Torres’ voice, and if it did, it made it
more attractive to my opinion. Later on Torres was known for his
charanga vallenato but on this album he spoils us with some sweet
salsa. Listen to Roberto Torres y sus Caminantes.tracks;

A good day to you Groovers around the Globe, this last week
has been a little hectic. My old PC was getting slower and slower
by the day. It was going to crash, that much was certain, it was only
a matter of time. So I decided to get another one. I am now working
on a brand new and fast machine, very nice but with all that updated
software I am learning things all over again. I didn’t use winrar on
this file, but winzip, hope it unpacks as usual for you.
If any problem appears, please let me know.What we have today is another rare old Juju LP. Chief Ebenezer Obey
is back with a splendid album. It’s been played quite a lot so it’s
quality isn’t perfect. During the 70’s, Ebenezer Obey and Sunny Adé
were big rivals. Juju music was changing in high tempo because both
artists wanted to be the first to add new instruments and new styles.
Around 1980 they both released albums for European labels and broke
through internationally. I think both artists are winners and above
all, we are the lucky ones to enjoy such great music.tracks;

King Sunny Adé’s juju is among the very best in Nigeria.
The Golden Mercury of Africa is one of his best albums

José Tamárez Mateo was born in San Isidro in the Dominican Republic
in 1920. I have no idea from what year this LP is. If any one
can tell us, that would be nice. It is an oldie and it’s been
played a lot. The final track has a little damage, you may ask
why post it ? Well, for the simple reason it contains eleven
great tracks, and they sound just fine. Give a fair chance
to the Real King of Merengue; Joseito Mateo.tracks;

Benedito Nunes is from Bahia, but he moved to Rio de Janeiro
to record his music. Probably that’s why his forró has a bit of
a samba sound. I kinda like those chorus parts and guitar walks.
Unfortunately the needle jumps one time during track #1, but I
think it’s still worth a spin.tracks;

Rumba is pure Afro-Cuban music for only voices and percussion.
It began with harber workers singing and dancing in their spare
time in the docks of Havana and Matanzas, playing rhythms on
cargo boxes. It comes in three styles, Guaguancó, Yambú and
Columbia. Carlos Embale is one of the main performers of the
guaguancó style, enjoy this rare LP.tracks;

It took a while, but here’s another Théo Blaise. After hearing
him again with Sam Mangwana this week, I thought it was his time.
Chef d’orchestre and solo guitar by Master Mwana Congo, all songs
written, arranged and mixed by Théo Blaise himself.
What can I say ? Just listen.tracks;

Puerto Rican singer Ismael Rivera used to work with Latin
