second at Discogs some three years ago. Today we have the
one which is first in the list. Unidade Luta Progresso is its
name. N’Kassa Cobra is the band and they are from Guinea-
Bissau, a West African country between Senegal and Guinée.

die als tweede genoteerd staat bij Discogs zo’n drie jaar geleden.
Vandaag degene die op de eerste plek in die lijst staat. Hij heet

Last night I was watching the western ‘The Harder They Fall’
by clip director Jeymes Samuel on Netflix. Heavily influenced
by Sergio Leone and Quentin Tarantino, he created a black cowboy
film in which he used reggae and soul songs. I quite enjoyed it
despite the bloody scenes. Very strong was the use of a version
of Barrington Levy’s ‘Here I Come’ (Broader than Broadway) and
Dennis Brown’s ‘Promised Land’. It inspired me to record a
classic Barrington album today. From 1980 we’ve got the great
‘Robin Hood’, backed by the Roots Radic Band, arranged and
produced by Henry ‘Junjo’ Lawes, mixed by Scientist, a
must have for every reggae lover. I added some
classic Barrington songs as a bonus ..

From 1982 we’ve got this slice of Senegalese mbalax with
on each side a group. Side one is with Youssou N’Dour et le
Super Etoile de Dakar, side two with Etoile 2000 de Dakar.
To my humble opinion from a period in which Youssou was

Uit 1982 hebben we deze schijf Senegalese vinyl met twee

Etoile de Dakar, kant twee met Etoile 2000 de Dakar. Naar
mijn bescheiden mening is dit uit een periode waarin
Youssou op zijn best was. Heerlijke mbalax die je niet zult

José Adelino Barceló de Carvalho is his real name, but we
know him as ‘Bonga’. When he was 23 years old he became
the Portuguese record holder on 400 metres. Angola was
still Portuguese in those days. In 1972 he quit running and
started his musical career. This is his debut album. It is not
the original from 1972, but the 1988 re-issue. I have added
the pictures from Discogs original in the file. Read Bonga’s

It is a shame this album has an annoying crackle throughout
the first side. It looks very clean, but has this disadvantage.
Side two is perfect. For a record from 1968 I decided to accept
it until a better copy emerges. Maybe one of you can clean it
for us. Meantime I hope you can appreciate the great samba
of Ataulfo Alves with a little background noise ..

Het is erg jammer dat deze plaat een hinderlijke kraak heeft
over de hele eerste kant. Hij ziet er schoon uit, maar heeft
dit nadeel. Kant twee is perfect. Voor een album uit 1968
heb ik besloten dit te accepteren tot er een betere kopie
opduikt. Ondertussen hoop dat je de mooie samba van
Ataulfo Alves kunt waarderen met enige ruis ..

Baldhead Bridge is Culture’s second album from 1978 when
they were still under the guidance of Joe Gibbs & Errol Thompson.
The numbers were derived from their first recording session, the
one they did for their debut album ‘Two Sevens Clash’, their UK
break through. Another song that scored big time was ‘The
international herb’ which you may find on Vital Selection.

a fan of Don Carlos. We already had some of his records,
but this one was still missing. From 1983 on Burning Sounds

most downloaded records for a long time. Today an album
with just Sungura Boys. It is from 1980 and rocks like crazy.
A must have for lovers of the style. This one is for Tim and

over and have a party ..

20 van meest gedownloade platen. Vandaag een plaat met
alleen de Sungura Boys. Hij komt uit 1980 en rockt als een
gek. Een ‘must have’ voor liefhebbers van dit genre. Deze is
voor Tim en David, maar ook de Jukebox Rebel, kan ie weer
eens een stukkie met de buren gaan dansen ..
P.S. Oorspronkelijk is dit een album uit 1980,
