It has been a while since we had music from Zimbabwe.
This one was still waiting to reach you. We had ten of
his works so far and today ‘Zimbabwe Mozambique’
from 1988 finds its way. Thomas Mapfumo was the
inventor and originator of ‘chimurenga’ music.

Almost one year ago that we had us a Global Sampler. It was volume 73
so right about time to make another. We are far behind in sampling
posts from the past. This sampler covers a load of posts from
around july 2018. Guess I’ll make some more to catch up
a little. In the far past I used to take a track of every
album posted. Nowadays I stick to songs that
don’t last too long, keep up the variety.

Het was alweer bijna een jaar geleden dat we nog een Global Sampler
hadden. Het was volume 73. Hoog tijd dus om verder te gaan en
weer eens een nieuwe te maken. We lopen een flink stuk
achter. Deze sampler beslaat een aantal posts van rond
juli 2018. Ik denk dat ik er nog een stel maak om wat
in te lopen. Vroeger nam ik een nummer van elke
geposte plaat, tegenwoordig neem ik de wat
kortere nummers om de variatie te
waarborgen. Hoe dan ook, als je
iets mooi vindt, gebruik je de

It is the legendary Sugar’s first album. From 1977 and two
years before his ground breaking Ghetto-Ology. Young Lincoln
Barrington Minott, better known as Sugar Minott, was born in
may 1956. On this record he is only 21 years old. Sugar
began singing 12 years of age, just
love his sweet voice ..

Het is Sugar’s eerste elpee, uit 1977 en dus twee jaar voor zijn
prachtige Ghetto-Ology. De jonge Lincoln barrington Minott,
beter bekend als Sugar Minott, werd geboren in mei 1956.
Op dit album is hij dus pas 21 jaar oud. Hij begon al met
zingen toen hij 12 was. Ik ben gek op zijn
zoetgevooisde stemgeluid ..

You know what they say, variety is the spice of life. Some
people just like one kind of sweets, I like to have a taste
of many types. Here on the GG we go from benga to son
and from mbaqanga to vallenato and samba. Today we
find some firm Nigerian highlife again. Now Edwin, don’t
start begging for Ghanaian, what you see is what you get.

Het is een bekende uitspraak, verandering van spijs
doet eten. Sommige mensen lusten slechts één soort,
ik hou ervan om telkens weer iets anders te proeven.
Hier op de GG gaan we van Brazilië naar Roemenië en
van Amsterdam naar Tanzania en Haïti. Vandaag weer
wat Nigeriaanse highlife. Dus Edwin, nu niet zeuren
om Ghanese, wat je ziet is wat je krijgt. We zagen
ze reeds vier maal, vandaag de vijfde op Tabansi
en uit ik weet niet welk jaar ..

One of the first reggae-dub albums I knew was the famous
Bag-O-Wire. A Sonia Pottinger project from 1975. It was
also known as Marcus Garvey. On this Dutch release from
1976 the titles are changed in Prophecy 1 to 5, Fullfillment
1 & 2 and finally Judgement 1 to 3. I have this Dutch RMILP 03.
The Dutch release speaks of 10 tracks while the album has 11.
Together with some mistakes in the English liner-notes,
it is a bit of a mess. I have taken the original titles
and added the original images.

Eind jaren zeventig maakte ik kennis met deze klassieker.
Het was een van de eerste dub-albums die we hoorden.
Bag-O-Wire, een Sonia Pottinger project, ook bekend als

In our Etsakor section, today some attention for the Unity
Band of Warrake. On one record its front man is named
S.A. Lawani, on another it is S.M. Lawani. I don’t mind what
his name really is and however the vinyl is a little dusty, the
highlife is very deep. This is their first album listed on Discogs,
not sure if it is their first issue. Enjoy listening to the Unity
Band of Warrake, on Ijebor from 1975 ..

Vandaag in onze Etsakor highlife afdeling eens wat aandacht
voor de Unity Band of Warrake. Op de ene plaat heet de front
man S.A. Lawani, op de andere S.M. Lawani. Het maakt me
niet uit hoe hij werkelijk heet en hoewel enigszins stoffig,
de highlife is van het zeer diepe soort. Dit is hun vroegst
gedateerde album op Discogs, niet zeker of het ook hun
eerste plaat is. Op Ijebor en uit 1975,
luister met plezier ..

Over the years we had us a couple of batucada albums.
The one we find today is quite exceptional, the use of
various instrumental effects and weird sounds make it
to a record to cherish. It contains the wonderful trem
batucada, the batucada train. Also featured are the
rhythms of the north east, a great set all together ..

Door de jaren hadden we al enkele toffe batucada albums.
Degene die we vandaag vinden is tamelijk uitzonderlijk, het
gebruik van diverse instrumentale effecten en gekke geluidjes
maken het tot een plaat om te koesteren. Hij bevat het originele

met Paulinho da Viola en met Conjunto O Voz do Morro. Ook
was hij een van de leden van Os Cinco Crioulos. Elton
Medeiros is een muzikant die garant staat voor
samba van kwaliteit. Ik ben
een absolute fan ..

For lovers of very relaxed samba we have an album from 1980
with Elton Medeiros today. We saw him passing by with
Paulinho da Viola and with Conjunto O Voz do Morro.
He was also part of Os Cinco Crioulos. Elton
Medeiros is a musician who guarantees
samba of quality. I am an
