Op Discogs staan 159 platen genoteerd, deze in Venezuela uitgebrachte
plaat staat daar niet bij. Anibal Velasquez heeft een berg albums en
singles geproduceerd waar je u tegen zegt. Hij is 83 jaar oud en tot
voor kort nog steeds actief. Het verbaast me dat Wikipedia maar zo’n
piepklein artikeltje wijdt aan zo’n groot artiest. Thuis in legio stijlen is
Anibal een zeer veelzijdig muzikant. Analog Africa bracht in 2010 nog
het prachtige Mambo Loco uit. (Mambo Loco bevat tevens de
trailer van de film Colombian Gold, geproduceerd door Ivan Higa en m’n
vriend Sanjay Agarwal, die mij de meeste van mijn Colombiaanse platen
levert) Verder is er in Europa maar bar weinig aandacht besteed aan het
werk van een man die veel meer verdient. Gelukkig hebben we hier op de
GG wat meer van zijn immense oeuvre langs zien komen.

On Discogs we find some 159 records by his hand and this one which was
released in Venezuela is not present. Anibal Velasquez made a huge pile of
albums and singles. He is 83 years old today and maybe still performing. I
surprises me that Wikipedia has such a short article on this great artist. Anibal is
master in many different styles. Analog Africa released the wonderful
Mambo Loco in 2010. (Mambo Loco also contains the trailer of the movie
Colombian Gold, produced by Ivan Higa and my friend Sanjay Agarwal,
who delivers most of my Colombian records) Further Anibal didn’t
get a whole lot of attention while deserving much more. Happily
we have seen him passing by a couple of times here at the GG.

Recently we had the album ‘Elizabeth’ with the great D.O.7. Shirati
Jazz of Daniel Owino Misiani, today the first one we find on Discogs
discography from 1975. Always much appreciated by our visitors is
the wonderful Kenyan sound of benga, D.O.7. Shirati Jazz being one
of the most popular bands amongst it. Listen to their
East African Hit Parade ..

King Kester Emeneya or Emeneya Emerite was here on two
earlier occasions and found some very happy listeners. One
of the other albums has a frontsleeve similar with the one we
have today. It is ‘Kimpiatu’. You may find it in the link below.
King Kester was part of Papa Wemba’s group Viva la Musica
in the seventies. He started Victoria Eleison in 1982. This LP
was originally released on Editions Vévé as Wabelo, this
version on Rythmes et Musique is titled ‘Presser Te’.

King Kester Emeneya ofwel Emeneya Emerite was hier reeds
bij twee eerdere gelegenheden en vond al vele blije luisteraars.
Een van die twee had een hoes met hetzelfde plaatje als deze,
het betreft ‘Kimpiatu’. Je vind hem in onderstaande link. King

Meester Dairo is de enige juju man die ik ken die soms de accor-

Een van de goede voornemens voor 2020 is muziek te luisteren
uit veel verschillende windstreken. Vanzelfsprekend hebben we
onze lievelingen welke telkens weer langskomen maar variatie is
wenselijk. Zo gaan we vandaag terug naar Haïti en genieten we
een zonnige compas plaat met le Super Chocoune, zij waren hier
nog niet eerder. Op Disques Celini en uit 1972 hebben we dit
album, ‘Ça Chauffe a Cabane Choucoune’. Heerlijke orgeltjes ..

One of the good resolutions we make for 2020 is listening to
music from as many different regions as possible. Logically we
have our favourites that will come back every once in a while
but variety is desirable. Today we are returning to Haïti and en-
joy another sunny compas record with le Super Choucoune, they
haven’t been here yet. On Disques Celini and from 1972 we

Goedemorgen lezers en luisteraars van de Global Groove.
Allereerst wens ik iedereen een mooi, vredig en gezond
2020 met veel fijne muziek, liefde en voorspoed. Laten
we het nieuwe jaar en decennium openen met de zeer
gewaardeerde highlife uit Etsakor. Vandaag een plaat
met Queen Orete and her Ijewele Dance. Er is verdomd
weinig over de queen te vinden. Haar highlife gaat op
deze elpee vergezeld van zeer relaxte gitaar klanken.

ted highlife from Etsakor. Today a record with Queen Orete
and her Ijewele Dance. Very little is known about the queen.

The four bands we find on this collection of miners songs
have a quite similar sound. Maybe because they all share
the same bassplayer, Thomas Maseko. The musicians were
based in the Orange Free State of South Africa but all come
from the majestic mountain land Lesotho. Love the groove ..
