gelukkig stukken beter. Hoera voor benga ..

Oh yes, here we’ve got another little benga pearl from the year 1977.

Jazz Band from Kenya. We had us two of their records on earlier occa-
sions, here and here, from 1976 and 1977. Today’s album fortunately
sound s alot better. Hip hip hooray for benga music ..

in Sparks.
Verder
met Earle en Jim Mankey en Harley Feinstein. Zelf heb ik
er altijd met plezier naar geluisterd ..

In our popmusic category today the debut album of the Sparks.
Back in 1971 they called themselves Halfnelson, a name they
changed in Sparks very quickly for commercial reasons. Only
the first album was released under this name. Produced by
Todd Rundgren and an elpee that didn’t bring fortune and
fame to the brothers Russell and Ron Mael. Also with Earle
and Jim Mankey and Harley Feinstein. Personally
I have always enjoyed it ..

On Dick’s Records from Onitsha Nigeria we find this strange
album. It contains a funny rhyme, “A pretty kitten, All black
and white. Call him to play, I think he might”. As far as I can
see, it has got nothing to do with the music. We hear benga
from Kenya by Orchestre Varieté Africaine? Except for one
offering on Afrowanted, it is ungoogleable so to speak. The
label nor sleeve give us any information on the topic. No
song titles, nothing at all. If anyone can shine a light
on this record, please do .. enjoy listening ..

“A pretty kitten, All black and white. Call him to play,
I think he might”.
titels, helemaal niets.

Hier

Yes folks, as blogpal Gerrit already predicted, the first Mothers of Invention
did not provoke any reactions except for his own. Meanwhile we continue
our little Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention revival for it is december,
the month for nostalgic popmusic records here at the Global Groove. So here’s
part two, Absolutely Free from 1967. Enjoy listening .. or not ..

..and now for something completely different.. These words
were famous of course through Monty Pythons Flying Circus.
Since small I was very much amused by everything out of
the ordinary, absurd, freaky if you will .. The music
of Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention came to me
when I was about 15 years old and it shook me. My first
encounter was with ‘Live at Fillmore East’ a live registration
that left me with red ears at that young age. My love for the
works of Frank Zappa was born. Later I managed to collect
most of his wonderful records. If you are young like I was
then, let me shock you a bit and let you hear the works of
this great musician. This is his very first from 1966.
Fasten your seatbelts and fly with the Mothers ..

..and now for something completely different..
De muziek van Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention
‘Live at Fillmore East’ die me met rode oortjes achterliet.
Fasten your
seatbelts and fly with the Mothers ..

    05 – Motherly love

Jah Woosh, real name Neville Beckford, is 23 years old, a
virgo, and one of the most exciting ‘toasters’ to emerge
from Jamaica in 1976. In may, during his visit to England
he had three records in the reggae top ten at the same
time. We feel this must be some kind of a record!
On this album, his first major solo album to be released in
England, he is backed by the Mighty Clouds and on several
of the titles his vocals are assisted by other Jamaican
    artists.
On Albert Classau he is joined by Shelton Wallis and on
Falling in Love, Veronica Adams accompanies him. He
is also joined by Levi Williams on Don’t Do That and
    Hubert Lee on In Deh.
All titles are written and produced by himself and
recorded at King Tubby’s and Channel One studio.
A fine debut album from Jah Woosh which should
really establish him as one of the front-line
    skankers from Jamaica. (liner notes)

    01 – Omega dollar
    02 – Midnight version

Some records that deserve better are doomed to get forgotten
because they carry far too much background noise. A real shame.
I’m going to post some of those despite the crackle and pops they
have. Some of you have the tools to reduce these disturbing sounds.
If that doesn’t hurt the recording too much, a good idea I’d say. Today
we find this record with Ali Chukwuma from Nigeria’s 1977, a nice
one if not so noisy. Part from audio freaks maybe interesting
    for some of you ..

Some people keep walking against this from time to time.
If the numbers you fill in to download keep coming back,
do not despair. If you try again on a later moment, it
will probably work as meant. We can’t seem to find out
why this occurs, it just does. Hang on, stay tuned and
eventually your patience will be rewarded ..

Lately I am experiencing a new problem, The moment I try
to launch a new post, the whole left column of the blog vanishes.
It is very annoying and I have several people looking at it.
It seems we’ll need to make some severe changes on the set up.
For the time being I can’t make any new posts without losing
the left part of the page, so hang on and some day in the near
future I’ll be back with new uploads. Thank you for understanding ..
