De plaat die we hier hebben is een tamelijk aparte, hoe serieus
hem te nemen weet ik even niet. Het is een behoorlijk clownesque
uitgave van de Panamese Lord Cobra. Wel een vrij zeldzame en
voor ons meegebracht daar vandaan door blog vriend Gonzalez.
Op Tamayo en met the Beachers, nogmaals dank kameraad.
De laatste twee titels staan omgekeerd op de achterkant
vermeld, ik heb ze voor je gecorrigeerd natuurlijk..

I’m not completely sure how to take this entry by calypsonian
Lord Cobra from Panama. It is quite clownesque in words and
sound. Funny party stuff if you like it. With the Beachers on
Tamayo. Another rare record brought from Panama for us
by our buddy Gonzalez, thank you once more Speedy.

Goedemorgen groevers, vandaag vraag ik om uw speciale aandacht.
Het was in oktober van 2008 dat ik voor het eerst een plaatje van
Romica Puceanu heb gebracht. Ik was toen al zeer gelukkig
dat ik er een gevonden had. Het heeft nog eens 8 jaar geduurd voor
dat ik wederom tegen een van haar albums aan liep, twee zelfs.
Wat een heerlijk gevoel geeft zo’n moment. Sinds de cd ‘Suburban
Bucharest’, waarop ik haar voor het eerst hoorde, ben ik groot
liefhebber geworden van de muziek van deze bijzondere vrouw, wat
een stem. Zelfs zonder dat ik er een woord van versta weet ze me
tot tranen te roeren. Geef haar eens een kans en luister,
ik beloof dat je er geen spijt van zult krijgen.

Good morning groovers, today I’m asking for your special attention.
It was in october 2008 when I first posted one of the records by
Romica Puceanu. It made me so very happy finally have found one
of hers. It took me another eight years before finding the next album,
two even. What wonderful feeling at such a moment. Ever since the cd
‘Suburban Bucharest’, on which I heard her first time, I am a lover
of the music of this Rumanian lady. What a stunning voice she has.
Even without understanding one word of it she succeeds in jerking
one or two tears from my eyes. Give her a fair chance and I
promise you won’t be sorry, warm sound, full of emotion..
..shame about the few pops in tracks 5 & 6..

Goeiemorgen, het is hoog tijd voor wat vallenato en daaraan
denkend kwam ik bijna direkt op Juan Polo Valencia. Met zijn
rijpe ruwe stem is hij een van de artiesten die ik het liefst op
de draaitafel heb. Zijn muziek is wellicht het meest geschikt
voor de wat meer doorgewinterde luisteraar maar oefening
baart kunst zogezegd dus luister snel zou ik zeggen, lekkerrr.

Good morning, it is about time for some more vallenato and
thinking so I almost immediately thought of Juan Polo Valencia.
With his ripe and raw voice he is one of the artists I prefer on my
turning table. His music is maybe most suitable for the more
experienced listener but there is only one way to get there
so go listening to him rapidly, delightful material..

Afrikaanse salsa ? Ja hoor, dat bestaat ook, bijna alsof het Cubanen
zijn. José Missamou laat het ons hier horen. Hij zong bij les Bantous
de la Capitale en deed ook diverse solo projecten. Op deze plaat wordt
hij bijgestaan door Ntesa Dalienst die ook nog met Franco heeft gewerkt.
Opgenomen in de studio van Verckys in Zaire en uitgebracht door Edddy
‘Son Consortium Mondial is dit een niet te missen stukje geschiedenis.
Kort maar lekker, luister zelf..

African salsa ? Yes sir, it does exist, almost like they are Cubans.
José Missamou shows us on this here album. He used to sing with
Les Bantous de la Capitale and also did various solo projects. On this
record he is accompanied by Ntesa Dalienst who used to work with
Franco’s OK jazz. Recorded in the studios of Verckys and released by
Eddy’Son Consortium Mondial, this is a piece of history you should not
miss. Short but sweet, listen..

uit welk jaar de muziek ook komt, geniet van deze schijf heet vinyl..

te krijgen. Deejays around the planet gebruiken samples van de
nummers die toch veelal uit de jaren zestig dateren. De sound die
hij toen ontwikkelde klinkt ook vandaag nog als een klokkie..Zelf
mag ik het ook vaak op feestjes opzetten en het publiek gaat
er altijd weer goed op, luister en zeg zelf, coool spul..

Michi Sarmiento’s platen zijn zeer lastig te vinden, zelfs in Colombia.
Gelukkig hebben wij onze trouwe vriend Sanjay die met zekere
regelmaat die kant opgaat om deze op te sporen. Hier hebben we
zo’n elpeetje. Het bevat diverse stijlen binnen de salsa, porro-salsa,
bomba, guaracha, mongolo, guaguancó, paseaíto en boogaloo.

Michi Sarmiento’s records are hard to come by, even in Colombia.
We are lucky to have our loyal blog-friend Sanjay who travels there
frequently to hunt down these treasures. The album we have here

Zeer aangenaam stukje twoubadou uit Haïti hebben we vandaag
aan deze plaat van Les 7 Vedettes. Als er accordeons worden
gebruikt heb je bij mij al snel een stapje voor en dit is er ook weer
zo een. Heerlijk spul, zonnig en gezellig, goeie stemmen alles
akoestisch, precies wat we op zo’n regenachtige dag zoeken.

Another very pleasant piece of Haitian twoubadou is what we’ve
got for you today. Les 7 Vedettes are here and if acordeons are being
used, you have my undivided attention. The album we have here is
a typical example of such. Lovely sunny feeling, nice voices and all
acoustic, just what we need on a rainy day like today..

Op Beverly en uit 1969 hebben we vandaag een samba artiest
die qua stem enigszins lijkt op Jair Rodrigues. krachtige vocalen
met origineel zestiger jaren samba sound, orgeltjes, lekkere
trombones en een sfeer zoals je die niet vaak meer hoort.
Met nummers van Jorge Costa, Tião Motorista en Martinho
da Vila onder anderen. Voor de liefhebber..luister..

On Beverly and from 1969, today, we have a samba artist
who has a certain resemblance with Jair Rodigues, voicewise
that is. Powerful vocals with original sixties samba sound, organs,
nice trombones and an atmosphere like we don’t hear anymore
today. Contains songs by Jorge Costa, Tião Motorista and Martinho
da Vila amongst others. For lovers of the genre..listen..

Eerst lijkt het allemaal iets te clean zogezegd maar als je even
verder luistert ontdek je de schoonheid van deze plaat. Deze
groep werkt met een rijtje van de meest fantastische stemmen
die Congo heeft voortgebracht. Carlyto Lassa, Malage de Lugendo
en Madilu System zijn niet de minsten, we kennen ze natuurlijk van
OK Jazz en Doudou Adoula komt van de Zaïko stal. Libabela is een
naam die ik even niet thuis weet te brengen, wellicht een van jullie.
Wie de muzikanten hier zijn is ook niet helemaal duidelijk, voel je
vrij ons met je kennis te verrijken. Luister snel naar deze schijf
met z’n vocale hoogstandjes dus..

At first it all seems a bit too clean but listening further one discovers
the sheer beauty of this record. This group works with some of the
most fantastic voices ever from Congo. Carlyto Lassa, Malage de
Lugendo and Madilu System are not the least, we know them from
OK Jazz of course and Doudou Adoula is from the Zaïko corner.
Libabela is a name I do not know, perhaps one of you. It is also
unclear who are the musicians here, please feel free to enrich
us with your knowledge. Listen to this slice of vocal tours
de force, enjoy and pass on..
