    calypsos-for-adam-and-eve-front

Every now and then we find us one, the type of collector
with calypsos really worth a spin. This is such a record. I
have no idea what Adam and Eve have to do with it, ‘for
adults only!’ is written on the backsleeve but that is no
exception in calypso. One way or the other, nice stuff..

    tracks ;

    01 – Lord Kitchener – Romeo
02 – Lord melody – Calypso life in brazil
03 – Young Invader – Give her banana
    04 – Lord Kitchener – Big toe
    05 – Mighty Dictator – Mathematical brother
    06 – Beginner – Injection
    07 – Sparrow – Give the youngsters a chance
08 – Lord Melody – Missing frozen chicken
    09 – Hepburn – Plastic surgery
10 – Lord Kitchener – Woman like saxophone
    11 – Lloyd Thomas – German calypso
    12 – Sparrow – Family size coke

    Kitch, voorkant

What a great moment when walking into an album like this one.
When searching for calypso, the sixties is the period I want to find
stuff from. Somehow I love the calypso from that era best. If it
concerns the work of Kitch on top of that, it pleases me extra.
This is the album that follows up Kitch 67, which you may find
at this page as well. The record we have today is from that same
year, on Tropico and in fine condition..

    titels ;

    01 – Miss tourist
02 – Mama have papa have
    03 – The wrecker
    04 – Come back molly
    05 – Big belly woman
06 – No hurricane in trinidad
07 – Best things in life are free
08 – Who tell me man
    09 – The handyman
    10 – Mazican

    Lord Cobra, voorkant

I’m not completely sure how to take this entry by calypsonian
Lord Cobra from Panama. It is quite clownesque in words and
sound. Funny party stuff if you like it. With the Beachers on
Tamayo. Another rare record brought from Panama for us
by our buddy Gonzalez, thank you once more Speedy.
The last two titles were printed switched around on
the backsleeve, I switched them back for you..

    titels ;

    01 – Congoman
    02 – Patois town
    03 – Sexy old lady
    04 – Hindu
    05 – China children
    06 – Water the garden
07 – Was an a ful sight to see
    08 – Bed bug

    Lord Cobra, voorkant

Lloyd Thomas genaamd ‘German’. Puur toeval hoor. De meeste
nummers zijn overigens van zijn eigen hand. Alleen nummer 8

    titels;

    01 – German
    02 – Say say
    03 – Love letters
    04 – Chatters box
    05 – Banana
    06 – I’ll pray for you
    07 – Cristy
    08 – Wicked money
    09 – Greedy woman

    Les Leopards, front

Records by Les Leopards are quite hard to find, I got
lucky at the fair and found two. From Martinique and
containing various styles, this album is very pleasant.

one’s got it all, listen and make up your own mind..

    01 – Incertitude
    02 – Clair de lune
    03 – Pas maille

05 – En le la levee
    06 – Alphabet

    Lord Kitchener, front

    Lord Kitchener

When hunting for records I always keep an eye open
for sixties calypso. So when I found this Lord Kitchener
it made me very happy. Calypso from this period is the
hardest to find and has the nicest sound to my opinion.
There are still many records to encounter but for now
we can sit and enjoy this fine lp. It must be from 1967
according to the internet, we had the album ’67 from
the same year obviously. It was my favourite Kitchener
for a long time and I’m glad to be able to extend that
Trinidad feel today, get it & spread it..

    tracks;

    01 – Nora
    02 – Tie tongue mopsie
    03 – Marjorie’s flirtation
    04 – Trouble in arima
    05 – Elsie’s river
    06 – Mount olga
    07 – Chinese never had a v.j. day
    08 – Walk a mile and a half
    09 – Black or white
    10 – Mango tree

    Dr. Kitch, front

Calypso has always been one of my favourite music styles,
especially when from the sixties which period I think brought
forth the best sound. When calypso turned into ‘soka’, what
means Soul Calypso, it changed the sound in an irreversible
way. Today I’m happy to bring you this slice of sixties calypso
which contains both known and some lesser known songs.
‘Shame and Scandal’ by the Wailers was new to me, nice
version, shame about the soundquality. Like mostly the
songs tell us little stories, not seldom hiding a
second story between the lines. Enjoy them
and share them if you can..

    tracks;

1 Lord Kitchener – Dr. Kitch
2 Lord Creator – Big bamboo
3 The Wailers – Shame and scandal
4 Lord Cristo – Dumb boy and the parrot
5 Lord Kitchener – The road
6 Mighty Dougla – Teacher, teacher
7 Mighty Sparrow – Village ram
8 Lord Kitchener – Neighbour, neighbour
9 Lord Kitchener – Love in the cemetery
10 Mighty Sparrow – Harry, elaine and mama
11 Lord Kitchener – Jamaica woman
12 Lord Kitchener – Kitch you so sweet

    E.T. Mensah, front

This lp on Decca West Africa is from 1969. It managed to
remain fully intact for 45 years and plays just wonderful.
Trumpeteer E.T. Mensah’s and his Tempos Band played in
various styles, but the traditionals, calypsos and even
soul takes come with highlife toppings. Highlife is his
main thing but E.T. Mensah loved to broaden his horizons.
On this album he gives us some examples of that very
appreciated variety. Get it, spread it
    and give it a spin..

    tracks;

    1 Medzi medzi
    2 Abodzin
    3 Daavi loloto
    4 Save me
    5 Bibiara wone bre
    6 Mee bei obaaba
    7 205
    8 Kaa no wa
    9 Señorita
    10 Gbee bleo
    11 Day by day

    Lord Flea, front

This is the band of Norman Thomas, better known as Lord Flea.
They were very popular playing in Jamaican nightclubs during
the fifties and moved to the United States of America. While
Trinidadian calypso was upcoming Lord Flea was Capitol’s
trump card, he appeared in tv shows and in films. This
lp was made in 1957, only two years later he was victim
of Hodgkin’s disease and died just 25 years old.
I think this is one of the best mento
    albums I ever heard, enjoy..

    1 Shake shake sonora
    2 Shi-du-bi-du-bab
    3 Bachelor’s wife
    4 I can’t cross over
