back to the music everybody can handle. Calixto Ochoa already
found a crowd of enthusiastics the last time he visited us here.

Tja, wij Hollanders schrikken niet zo snel van een kleine openbaring.
kennelijk was mijn post van gisteren iets te veel voor sommigen. Geen
punt natuurlijk, we houden het gewoon bij de muziek, dan weten we zeker
dat niemand onwel wordt. Calixto Ochoa heeft al wat harten beroerd met
zijn fijne vallenato’s. Al is ook dit niet voor iedereen weggelegd. Ik ben er
in elk geval een grote liefhebber van. Voor wie er blij van wordt deze schijf
vinyl uit 1975 op Delujo. Weer zo’n heerlijk stukje Colombia voor ons mee-
gebracht door Sanjay. Dank je mijn vriend, ik zal weer eens wat meer van
dit soort plaatjes brengen, ze zijn een tijdje wat verwaarloosd geweest..

Hey vallenato liefhebbers, ik ben jullie echt niet vergeten hoor !
Het is wel al drie maanden geleden dat ik aan je gedacht heb,
ogenschijnlijk dan hè. Om het goed te maken dat het zo lang
geduurd heeft, vandaag een extra mooie plaat van Pachito Rada.
Het blijft heerlijk spul.

Lieve bezoekers van de Global Groove, op deze laatste dag van het
jaar wil ik jullie hier vanuit ons nederige Nederland bedanken voor 2017
en de toffe feedback, en tevens het allerbeste wensen voor 2018, het
jaar waarin we straks alweer tien jaar bestaan. Blijf ons opzoeken
want er belooft nog veel moois te gebeuren.

Hey lovers of vallenato, I truly didn’t forget about you folks !
It has been three months though I thought about you, apparently
that is. To make up for the hiatus, today an extra nice album by the
great Pachito Rada. Hail sweet vallenato for ever.

Dear visitors of the Global Groove, on this last day of the year I’d
like to say, thank you all for a great 2017 and all the nice feedback,
best wishes for 2018, the year in which we will celebrate our tenth
anniversary. Stay tuned cuz some surprise events are scheduled
for the future. Happy New Year everbody !

great musician and wrote a bunch of hits. This is a collection
of his ‘grandes exitos’. It comes from the CD release by Discos
Fuentes in 1997, already twenty years ago. Enjoy listening..

Ze zijn bijna niet te vinden, de platen van Michi Sarmiento.
Extra mooi dat ik deze heb weten te bemachtigen op de
laatste beurs in Utrecht. Ik moest er wel diep voor in de
buidel tasten maar dat heb ik ervoor over hem vandaag
met jullie te kunnen delen. Uit 1973 en op Discos Fuentes.
Wel een beetje zuur dat track drie een keeertje overslaat
maar dat was helaas niet zichtbaar, het is niet anders..

They are almost impossible to find, Michi Sarmiento’s
records. Extra nice I managed to find this one at the
latest record fair in Utrecht. It didn’t come for nothing
but okay, I am glad I can now share it with you guys.
From 1973 and on Discos Fuentes, just a little sad track
three makes one small jump but that was not visible
unfortunately, something we have to deal with..

He recorded more than 32 records, was crowned King Vallenato
in 1975 and was member of the famous ‘Corraleros de majagual’.
Julio de la Ossa deserves his place between the Vallenato greats.
Today we have his album ‘el Preso Distinguido’ from 1969. Born
in july 1937 and died in september 1998..

Hij nam in zijn leven meer dan 32 platen op, was ‘Rey Vallenato’
in 1975 en was onder andere lid van de fameuze Corraleros de
Majagual. Julio de la Ossa verdient zijn plek tussen de groten
der Vallenato. Vandaag zijn elpee ‘el Preso Distinguido’ uit 1969.
Geboren in juli 1937 en overleden in september 1998..

Its sleeve is somewhat worn out by time and such, the disc
however is in fine condition. La Niña Esquiva is a song covered
by many and this album’s title song. Luis Enrique Martinez was
crowned Rey Vallenato on the prestigeous Festival de la Leyenda
Vallenata in 1973. The rhythms on this record are enormous
tight and sweet, better don’t hesitate and get it now..

De hoes is enigszins aangetast door de tand des tijds, de plaat
zelf daarentegen is in prima staat. La Niña Esquiva is een nummer
door velen gecovered en de titelsong van deze elpee. Luis Enrique
Martinez was winnaar van het prestigieuze Festival de la leyenda
Vallenata 1973. De ritmes op deze plaat zijn buitengewoon strak
en lekker. Ik zou hem niet negeren en snel binnenhalen..

Oh yes, here we finally go with volume four, we already had
vols. 1,2 and 5. That leaves vols. 3 and then 6 until 10. I will
still have to find the last five. These guys are called three
kings and that suits them, they are truly the finest if it comes
to vallenato. If you are lover of the genre you’ll understand.
I’ll post vol. 3 one of these days, they do have light crackling
noises but being from the sixties that is not very strange.
Get them and share them as usual..

Ja hoor, daar is dan eindelijk volume vier, we hadden reeds
1,2 en 5. Nu nog nummer 3, die zal ik ook eerdaags plaatsen.
Deze jongens worden met recht drie koningen genoemd, zij
zijn het neusje van de zalm op vallenato gebied. Wie net als
ik liedhebber van het genre is zal snappen wat ik bedoel. Ze
kraken lichtjes maar dat hoort erbij, ze stammen uit de 60’s
en er zijn trouwens wel tien volumes in totaal. 6 t/m 10 moet
ik nog even zien te vinden. luister en geniet ervan..

Something I noticed after years of listening to music,
and aspecially songs, is, the sound of voices and wether
one likes a voice, is a very personal thing. Thousands of people
love the voice of Neil Diamond for instance, I can’t stand the man.
Take Aster Aweke, many many are fund of her voice, not me.
No, if you ask me, sweet voices are nice but I especially love
a matured , old voice with some rough edges, like this guy.
Juancho Polo Valencia is a huge idol of mine. ..and how
about you, can you dig this..?

Iets wat me in al die jaren muziek, en liefst liedjes, luisteren
is opgevallen, is dat stemgeluid, en of een stem je ligt, iets
heel persoonlijks is. De één loopt weg met de stem van bv.
Neil Diamond, persoonlijk kan ik de man niet verdragen.
Iemand als Aster Aweke, ik trek haar stem voor geen meter
terwijl hele volksstammen er voor warmlopen. Nee, geef
mij maar oude mannetjes met krakend geluid, zoetgevooist
is mooi maar doorleefd als Juancho Polo Valencia, daar loop
ik dan weer warm voor. En jij, wat vind jij ervan ..?
