Pepé Kallé and his Empire Bakuba always find a happy
listener. This lp’s from 1986 and is a tribute to Docteur
Nico Kasanda, the legendary guitarist. You may find his
lp’s here too, just use our search-bar. l’Empire Bakuba
does also not appear here for the first time, listen to the
two and agree this is fabulous music..tracks;

Eau Bénite… Hommage a Luambo Makiadi
Tamaris 1990I was in doubt for a while, the quality of this lp is not that
good, but untill I find a better specimen we’ll have to settle
with this one. It has some pops and sh*t but still.. the songs
about Franco send shivers down my spine. The group he
left behind didn’t vanish with ‘le grand maître’ but kept
making the music that used to be his life..
Madilu, Djo M’poy, N’dombe Opetum,
Josky and Simaro, all present
with the TP OK Jazz.tracks;
1 Eau bénite
2 Hommage a luambo-makiadi

Quite some time ago, when still working with the old page,
I already posted this one. I don’t remember exactly why it
was removed in a later stage. Anyway, I thought it would
be good to make it available again. Such wonderful music
should be accessible so here it is once more, enjoy…tracks;

I received a message saying, this lp also disappeared
from the global groove. I dived into it and found it’s true.
So, no problem, we’ll bring it again, and this time it’s
here to stay. Some of the sweetest Congolese songs
from the fifties, Enjoy them once again....if anyone finds any other lp missing,
leave me a message and I’ll restore it..

Le Grand Maître Franco passed away in 1989. This lp
is said to be released in 1988 but speaks of Franco’s
heritage. The grand master did not participate, so how
is it ? Was it made before or after Franco’s passing ?
I could not find it on the web..
The lp was made with all the OK Jazz greats, Josky,
Madilu, Lutumba Simaro, Ndombe Opetum, Ntesa
Dalienst, Djo Mpoyi Diatho, Gerry, Gandy and
Papa Noel. It’s a nice album in which we can
hear the master’s hand, his spirit lives on…

The sound is a bit crackly, some pops and hiss, it’s sleeve
looks quite worn out but still,..I love it. It’s from 1977 on
Editions Namaco, Libreville Gabon. The tracks are divided
in two with the first parts on side-a and the second parts on
side-b of the album. A bit strange I think but now it’s been
ripped to mp3’s we can put first and second part behind
each other to listen to them in correct order. Orchestre
T.P. Zembe Zembe appears here first time and I am very
enthousiast about them, sweet guitars and vocals..
So get it and spread it like always, enjoy.tracks;

Orchestra Super Mazembe was a Congolese group that
went to Nairobi, Kenya in 1974. They were one of the most
popular bands in the genre together with among others,
Les Mangelepa and Samba Mapangala. Their biggest hit
was ‘Shauri Yako’, originally by Nguashi Ntimbo.It is still as new as when I bought it in 1982. This was one
of my first encounters with African music. I didn’t post it yet
thinking that everybody has it already, a mistake off course.
On Virgin Records and maybe a little on the commercial side
I think this lp contains a couple of fairly nice songs. If you
haven’t got it already give it a spin and listen yourself.tracks;

Welcome everybody at the new website of the Global Groove.
We’re very happy you have found your way to us again. Some
features have been changed a bit but in general the page should
be working more or less similar as the old one. We are still working
on a few things but we’re good to go, please click around and find
all the older GG posts restored and working again.
Only the rar-files that contain an apostrophe ( ‘ ) still need
some attention, you wont be able to download them yet, this
problem will be solved within the next few days, have fun..To begin with, an album I have been saving for the release of the
new and improved GG. It took a long time but finally we’re here.
Franco’s younger brother Bavon Marie-Marie is here with an lp
you’re gonna love, of that I am sure. He was difficult as a kid but
quite intelligent. He used to drink a lot and bleech his skin but
his music is wonderful. This lp is a quite rare one, I could not
find any useful additive info, just listen, the music speaks for
it’s self. If anyone knows the year of release or other information
about it, please send us a comment and brighten up the mistery..tracks;

Remember Lolo Lolitta ? We had several albums of
Tchico Tchicaya with Lolo and some by his own hand.
This one is from 1978, sleeve says 1979, and was recorded
in Abidjan Cote d’Ivoire. Like the lp’s we heard before,
it does not disappoint, what do you think ?
btw, the vinyl looks as new but b-side
sounds second hand I’m affraid..tracks;
