- Sunday September 20, 200916 comments on Le Grand Maitre Franco, Nana, Baniel et le T.P. O.K. Jazz -Cherche une Maison a Louer Pour Moi Cheri, Choc 1988
There are much more male than female singers in Congo. On this LP by
le Grand Maitre however we hear two lady’s with sweet voices. I don’t know
anything about them, first time they show up for me. Volume 2 from the same
session as the previous album, hope you like dem.P.S. I made a little mistake in the file, I wrote cherie instead of cheri,
(feminin/masculin) can you change it yourself to remain correct ? Well done.tracks;

Let’s colour this sunday Congolese.
I am not kidding if I say this is one of the best Franco albums ever.
We hear Franco and Lutumba Simaro singing the fantastic ‘La reponse de
Mario’. Don’t you just love that voice of Simaro with it’s vibrato ?
hang on for part two, with Nana and Baniel, pretty faces and pretty voices.tracks;

He was born in Zaïre in a musical family and inherited his talent from
his father. Maïka started his career age 16 playing a guitar he had from
his older brother. He was noticed by Tabu Ley and played with the
great Orchestre Afrisa International for 6 years. This LP was made
under supervision of Abel Lima who rediscovered Maïka.

The past three days have been quite good if I see that the GG had
some 5300 pageloads, over 2600 visitors and 315 downloads. Let’s see
how Youlou Mabiala does. Youlou enjoys great popularity and
has a beautiful voice. I have read Youlou suffered from some kind of stroke
while performing on stage in Congo last year. His left side was paralised
en could not speak. Meanwhile he’s been doing a little better, let’s wish
him all the best. Enjoy listening to Franco’s son in law.tracks;

Yesterday, when I was ripping this here album, I found out it was
released under a different name too. It is the same one as this_one .
The photo on ‘Grands Succes’ is from much later then 1977 if I’m not
mistaking, so this one should be older logically. Anyway, it’s an
outstanding LP so I don’t mind posting it again, enjoy it once more.tracks;

This Volume 3 of yet another series of albums on the african label, was
released in 1985 but the recordings on it are much older. It is a
mixture of numbers, some solo and some sung together. Both Rochereau
and Sam Manguana sound very young and fresh. Beautiful music.tracks;

Let’s go back in time, the major part of these tracks have been
recorded in 1964, that’s 45 years ago. Only the last track, with
Verckys on saxophone is from 1966. For an album, that old, it spins
surprisingly well. This is vol. 3 of another great series on the african
label, volume 5 is also in my posession but the other volumes are still
on my hunting list, maybe I’ll find some on the next recordfair in november.tracks;

Johnny Bokelo made a lot of records during the 70’s and 80’s, this is
an album from 1981. It’s quite hard to find some decent information
about Johnny, if you can tell us something interesting about him,
please do so. In the meantime enjoy this nice album, sorry for the
snaps, crackles and pops. It’s been played over and over.tracks;

Usually I would only remove names from covers and futher leave things
as they are, on this one fixing was too disturbing so I left it. Another
very sweet Zaiko Langa Langa LP from 1988 with the great voices of
Bimi and Malage. Nothing can go wrong here, simply beautiful.tracks;
