- Saturday May 30, 20097 comments on Les Bantous de la Capitale, Sonafric 1976
Somewhere during the 60’s, an early member of OK Jazz, Jean Serge
Essous and Nino Malapet, also saxplayer, started up a bigband
Congolese style. Les Bantous de la Capitale, with Papa Noel,
Brazzos among others who joined Franco’s Band in Kinshasa later.
Did you know the ‘OK’ in OK Jazz stands for Orchestre Kinois ?,
Kinois means ‘from Kinshasa’. Listen to this 70’s highlight
by Les Bantous de la Capitale !tracks;

Now this, dear visitors, is a special album. When Docteur Nico
came back to Tabu Ley’s Afrisa in 1980, they made this LP.
Track nr. 2, ‘Resurrection’is of the hand of Docteur Nico.
He is considered to be one of the best guitarists ever by many.
I must agree this is a very good record, check it yourself.tracks;

One of my biggest idols in Congolese music is Tchico, or
the Golden Voice of Africa, la Voix d’or d’Afrique. This LP
with Lolo Lolitta is one of the best I’ve heard, what splendid
guitarwork. Beautiful melodies and brought with passion, in all
aspects a killer. I wonder if you agree with me.tracks;
1 Tam-tam d’Afrique

Kongo Retro Band 83 is a group or was, existing from artists
from different countrys. Grand Kalle and Adou Elenga from
Zaïre, ( Congo and Zaïre were seperated ) Manuel d’Oliveira
& Les San-Salvador from Angola and Les Bantous et Guy Léon
Fylla from Congo. The vocal parts are taken care of by Lutumba,
( is it ‘le Poete Simaro’ ? ) Elba and Diasi. Many names of which
I know little, if anyone can enlighten us ? I do know this is a
beautiful album, get it while you can.tracks;

Orchestral leader, saxophone player Eddy Gustave somehow always
brings out the best in artists. The sessions on Eddy’Son Consortium
Mondial draw my immediate attention when I find them. Such as this
one by Mayos, outstanding vocals. I am also exited
by the extraordinairy work of this drummer, ‘Nole Ti-Paul’, very
nice and tight. And of course Eddy’s sax, superb like always.tracks;
1 Nalembi-kotuna
2 Mualey-nangay
3 Mobali-nangay
4 Mitumba-libisaPosted by Moosat 8:10 PM - Thursday May 14, 2009

Saxophone player Kiamanguana Verckys was one of the members
of OK Jazz for years and later started his own Orchestre Veve.
This LP’s first side, with Orchestre Veve is recorded in 1969
if I’m not mistaking. B-side is from 1973 and so is this album.
Tracks 5,6,7 and 8 are with Orchestre Les Grands Maquisards.
