When I found this lp by the Happy Stars, it was my first
encounter with the group. They started out in 1956 but
only gained succes after their second revival in 1960.
The highlife on this album is played in, as they have
called it, ‘osibi tune’. I do not know what makes it
osibi but think it sounds very nice. On side one
all songs are melted together as one, on side
two they are seperated, enjoy..tracks;
1 Nakwa ayebi
– Se manware no a mewu
– Onipa ne dabre mu
– Asante kotoko
– Asuo yaa
2 Maame abenaa
3 Senketenkete
4 Dada yi ara
5 Ankonam

Our buddy Kwabena asked me if I had any Kumapim Royals and it just
so happens I had this lp waiting for it’s turn to get posted.
So here it is, sooner then planned but why not. Akwasi Ampofo Adjei,
A.A.A. or the Shining Star or Dada Thick, call him how you like, his
music is simply wonderful. Kumapim Royals Band, ‘Band of the Year’,
the album is from 1981. I just wish I knew them in those days but
better late then never I guess. Interested ?
Download ‘Sika ye Pena’, listen and enjoy..P.S.
The record ends kind of abrubt, that’s just how it is..tracks;
1 Sika ye pena
2 Madam fo wa
– Menam okwantuni
– Katapilia kwankwan
– Monhwe nanimma
– Nkaboa
3 Oduro kwaku
4 Wada bia nyane

For the lovers of Ghanaian highlife we have an album
by Dan Amakye Dede and his Apollo International Band
of Ghana. It was recorded in Nigeria in 1984 and sounds
a little noisy. It is always difficult, should I keep this album
from posting because it is crackly or continue without holding
back ? I guess I’d rather choose the second option.
Guitar-highlife from Ghana but made in Nigeria is one
of the most popular styles at our page, so if you forget the
noise I’m sure this one will also find a happy listening ear..tracks;
1 Taxi driver
2 Yen hunu bi da
3 Woa nnare mea membotwo
4 Tun tum black
5 Nye wonko

Today’s lp comes with a request. I have asked before if there
would be anyone to help us out here. This album by One of
the most respected highlife artists is so crackly, it is a shame.
Can someone run it through a good filter to take away the
noise and then throw it back at us? the album really deserves
it. K. Gyasi’s Noble Kings Band of Ghana is one we do not
encounter on a daily basis. This lp is made with my favourite
Ghanaian guitarplayer, Eric Agyemang and vocalist Paa Thomas
Frempong. It is from 1976, launched just after their European
tour and recorded at the Island Recording Studios, London.
The tour was supposed to last for six weeks but went on for
five months, july to november 1975. They visited all the major
cities in England, Belgium and Germany, no Netherlands
unfortunately, however, in those years I wasn’t aware of
the greatness of this type of music yet. I must say,
the album sounds quite dusty during the first two
or three songs but gets better further on,
b-side same story, I hope you can help.
get it, spread it and more important,
listen and dance away..tracks;

This lp on Decca West Africa is from 1969. It managed to
remain fully intact for 45 years and plays just wonderful.
Trumpeteer E.T. Mensah’s and his Tempos Band played in
various styles, but the traditionals, calypsos and even
soul takes come with highlife toppings. Highlife is his
main thing but E.T. Mensah loved to broaden his horizons.
On this album he gives us some examples of that very
appreciated variety. Get it, spread it
and give it a spin..tracks;
1 Medzi medzi
2 Abodzin
3 Daavi loloto
4 Save me
5 Bibiara wone bre
6 Mee bei obaaba
7 205
8 Kaa no wa

We had three albums of K.K’s No.2 Band but this is the first
one by K.K’s Band without the No.2. King Yeboah with his nice
voice leads the group, further there are Yenuah, Nyamekye, Manu,
Safo doing alto and tenor, and there’s Paa Gyimah on lead guitar.
The album starts a bit dusty and I am very sad about a couple of
pops on track # 3 and 4, shame but I still want to share it with
you all. If I find it again, I’ll replace it some day in the future.
Although a bit damaged, the songs are so nice that
you’ll listen to them anyway. Enjoy another
slice of almost forgotten highlife..tracks;
1 Suro onipa
2 Maame afua
3 Gyae nkontaa buo
4 Begye maniPosted by Moosat 10:33 AM - Saturday November 8, 2014
Always a joy to discover another album by these guys.
Operating from Nigeria, Okukuseku Inter Band of Ghana
is back to brighten up your lifes. I know at least one
happy visitor, but I guess there’ll be a few more.
Get it & spread it Josh,
oh ..and who ever
wants it..tracks;
1 Akokoba
2 Everyday man de tire
3 Monhwe me

You are the lucky one this weekend Thiol, I found it not so
very long ago. Another African Brothers album to get closer
to completion of their list of releases some fine day. How
many do we still have to find ? I wouldn’t know, I do know
the next big recordfair is on my doorstep. November 22 and
23 we’ll have us another opportunity to dig the crates and
boxes of hundreds of recorddealers from various countries.
If you’re interested to go, take a look at their site.
Let’s see what’s cooking for us this time, the novemberfair
is usually the better one of the two so fingers crossed..
I do understand you requested this particular record
Thiol, it is exceptional, true delight..tracks;

Good morning groovers, once again I find out through a comment
that our former host, blogger, has thrown away one of our precious
old albums. It concerns a very nice lp by the great African Brothers.
The Best of Kwame Ampadu used to be on my blog long time ago.
It is another surprise to find it gone but no worries, every time you
come up with a disappeared album, I’ll re-post it and this time it is
going to stay here. So enjoy this rarity and pass it on..p.s. I’m checking my other African Brother posts as well,
maybe more have disappeared, I’ll get back on that soon..tracks;

One of the Ghanaian Bands that has the most fans here at
the Global Groove is Obuoba J.A. Adofo and the City Boys
International Band. We had some five of their albums until
now, find them best using our search-bar at your left hand.
The lp we have here today is one you’ll treasure for sure. It
rocks from the first notes entering your earhole, enjoy..P.S. They used to call him the black Chinese, now I’m not sure
if the term ‘the living saint’ refers to Obuoba Adofo, or not..tracks;
