If you liked the twoubadou style of artists like Coupé Cloué, Trio
Select, Rodrigue Millien and toto Necessité among others, you
will also get happy listening to the works of this man. Altieri Dorival
is back here with his banjo and great band for the third time. I love
his records and this one which was recorded in New York forms no
exception. Do you like strings, be sure to listen to Altieri Dorival..titels ;

Geniet weer van deze heerlijke muziek..We saw a couple of his records already, today we’ve got another
one. On this delightful piece of compas vocals are done together
with Blagueur. Rodrigue Millien and his Combite Creole are a
group I would have loved to see in those days but unfortunately
I knew nothing about them then. Better late then never so to
speak, enjoy listening to this awesome music..titels ;
01 – Map tan’ ou
02 – Pretexte
03 – Porte bonheur

Another very pleasant piece of Haitian twoubadou is what we’ve
got for you today. Les 7 Vedettes are here and if acordeons are being
used, you have my undivided attention. The album we have here is
a typical example of such. Lovely sunny feeling, nice voices and all
acoustic, just what we need on a rainy day like today..titels ;
01 – Deux chances
02 – Resquilleur

Singer Gesner Henry who we know as Coupé Cloué in a later
stage on one of his first recordings with Trio Select. A piece
of twoubadou from Haiti the way we like best. Very mellow
sound, two guitars, one double bass and some small
rhythm on the side. I love it, you can
make up your own mind ..from the web;
“Legend has it that Jean Gesner Henry (1925-1998) went from a career in professional football (soccer) to one as a singer/guitarist. I wrote “legend has it”, because it seems unlikely that there was a professional football league at the end of the 1940’s or in the early 1950’s in Haiti.
Jean made a name for himself as a ‘no-nonsense’defender, which earned him the nickname of Coupé Cloué (“cut and nail down”).
Six years after his first musical steps he started Trio Crystal, which later evolved to Trio Select and, in the early 1970s, into L’Ensemble Select.
He became quite popular too in West Africa, where he was sometimes compared to Franco. A comparison based on his sometimes rude (spoken) lyrics and on his typical guitar style.”titels ;
01 – Marteau
02 – Couci-couca
03 – Tu me hais
04 – Ratt la
05 – Juge, juge’m bien
06 – La vie vieux negre
07 – Qui li bois
08 – Deux petits pigeons
09 – Shada

The frontsleeve of this record makes us think of the many
refugees, the Africans trying to find a better live in Europe
and struggle for their lives in too small boats at the medi-
terranean Sea the moment we speak. The music it brings
however is from Haïti mid seventies, I don’t know the
exact year. I do know it is very good though. Listen,
pass it to your friends and agree, hot material.titels;
01 – Toto en alle
02 – Racket
03 – Mesdames eastern parkway
04 – Pere laurenceau

On Mini Records we find Althiery Dorival and his Ensemble
Le Progrès. Since I heard him first time I got intrigued by his
dark yet sparkling sound. Reason the more why we’re very
lucky we found more of his great music. Thank you Rémy
for bringing this compas to our attention. We had one of
his records on an earlier occasion. Find it using our seach
option on your left hand side. ( write as altiery dorival )

Coumbite Créole was Rodrigue Millien’s group. On this
album he is joined by his buddy Jules Similien or Toto.
It seems the latter got his name through the title-song
of this here lp if I’m not mistaking. Very laidback and
easy going record from 1974. It builds up to a little up-
tempo towards the end. Listen and enjoy Coumbite
Créole, Rodrigue et Toto in ‘Nécessité’ ..tracks;
01 – Nécessité

Hello, what do you think about compas ? Isn’t it
just marvelous music ? Discovering more and more about
it. Some years ago I met with Rémi Joigneau from France,
he is one of the guys who put together the album; ‘Haïti
Goes Latin’. I added a small pic of the lp. The last track of
the record posted today is on it for instance, they used
vinyl copies like this one to make the album. Thanks
a lot for helping us out with all these killer compas
records Rémi, the world is enjoying them now
and in the future.Let’s see, we’ve got us another classic album
