This saturday the fourth of july weather predictions say it is going to
be the hottest day in history. With expected temperatures of more
than forty degrees it has never been so hot before. At least since the
beginning of measurements that is. The highest temperature ever
measured in the Netherlands was 38,6° C in 1944. Hang in there
everybody. What can we do.. ? ..at least listen to some
mellow summer tunes like this, let’s see..One of our Colombian visitors told me the music of Toto Nécessité
is very much in demand in Cartagena. He asked for this here record.
I can imagine for this is a hot slice of Haïtian vinyl. Toto’s sound is
very entertaining and a mellow listen, not too fast, just right for
a hot summer day like this one. Enjoy..tracks;

Summer starts today, well theoretically that is, we’ve got rain,
it’s cloudy, nothing at all like summer. So what can we do ?
Sit at home and rip another record that makes the sun shine.
Let’s see..I’ve said it before, the more you listen to it the more you like it,
compas from Haïti is hot stuff. This guy stole my heart with his
swell tropical sound. Got some more of his records waiting,
Toto Nécessité on Mini Records from 1980 is here to
brighten up our rainy day, enjoy listening..tracks;
01 – Bande nan chaud
02 – Artemise
03 – Rasta

It was one of our French visitors from the first hour
who introduced me to compas from Haïti. Merci beaucoup
Arnaud. Since then I have been doing my homework and
learned a lot. For instance that I keep my eyes open
for every record on which I find Robert Martino, the
superb guitarist we heared on Tuco’s album recently.
Tuco is the drummer on this record as well by the way.
Les Gypsies de Pétion-Ville are here with wonderful
live registrations. They appear in two different
line-ups, check backsleeve in file for more
information about the matter. The album
is from 1994 but the recordings are from
some 20 years ealier, mid-seventies.
Enjoy listening..tracks;
01 – Presentation gypsies no.1

Good morning, today’s post concerns an album
from Haïti. The compas of Combite Creole flows
through your speakers in a very smooth and mellow
style, it has a certain coolness that fits your sunday
afternoon. Rodrigue Milien and Toto Necessité
were both part of Combite Creole, I am not sure
if Toto is participating on this album however.
We hear two voices but his name does not
appear on the backsleeve. One way or the,
other, Rodrigue Milien is here,
enjoy listening..tracks;
01 – Coutt bas residence
02 – Pardon
03 – Solitude
04 – Femme bluffeur
05 – Seme lecon
06 – Histoire lochan

I got lucky last week when visiting our capital, went there with
my son to see the late Rembrandt exposition in the new and
improved Rijksmuseum. It was astonishing to see all them
famous paintings we all know. Very inspiring experience..When returning from the museum we passed by one of the
second hand record stores I use to frequent and found this
album among a few others. Les Shleu Shleu have been here
before on a few occasions, search for them the regular way.
Happy summer compas, just in time before spring starts off.
Don’t you love that cover with the kids dancing on vinyl..?
Hope you like’m, get & spread as usual..tracks;

I’ve heard somewhere Shleu Shleu was the name of some
mysterious tribe, great. These guys were no part of the tribe
but used their name. Les Shleu Shleu were here before, some
of the songs on this album were also on this album.
Label and sleeve do not agree on what’s a-side and b-side,
I thought I’d better stick to the sleeve’s info so I did.
It does mean the title song of the lp ending up on the b-side
but that’s fine with me. If we listen to these fine songs, we
instantly forget everything else, sweeet Haitian stuff..tracks;
1 Devin’ pa’ ou
2 Jouroumou pa donin calebasse
3 Desillusion
4 Sept jours de la semaine
5 Cé la ou yé
6 Haiti
7 Je t’aime
8 Haiti & shleu-shleuPosted by Moosat 10:04 AM - Wednesday October 1, 2014
Haitian compas has a groove different from other caribbean
countries. Part from it’s French lyrics maybe there is a tiny
bit of similar flavour in the music from our Dutch Antilles.
The more I listen to compas, the more I like it, the rhythms
keep going untill you reach a certain trance, great atmosphere.
I’m sorry track # 4 & 8 have some pops halfway but overall this
lp sounds fairly good. We had two records by Les loups Noirs,
find them here and here . I guess the
reason I had problems listening to compas is shown
in track number seven, the other seven tracks are great.
..enjoy..tracks;
1 Echo mondial
2 Dimanche
3 La martiniquaise
4 Donné donnant
5 Nostalgie
6 Haïti mon pays
7 Amada amante
