Een van onze samba liefhebbers merkte terecht op dat we
tot nog toe niets hebben van Candeia terwijl hij toch een van
de groten was, veel te jong overleden. Hij werd slechts 43.
Uit 1981 hebben we dan eindelijk zijn beste werk, althans
dat zegt de titel. Dus Sam, hier is O Melhor de…Candeia..

One of our samba lovers noticed quite rightly we still don’t
have any music by Candeia. This while he was one of the
greats in the field who died far too young, only 43 years of

Wat een verwennerij, een samba verzamelaar vinden met zeker
vijf namen die we nog niet kennen. Vandaag zijn dat Gisa Nogueira,
Franco Dilano, Osvaldo Fahel, Zaira en Dominguinhos do Estacio.
Van Aroldo Santos kennen we de eerste twee nummers maar
verder dus veel nieuws. Alle liefhebbers opgelet, niet te missen
spul, op Top Tape en uit 1977, lekker hoor..

What a nice surprise, finding a samba collector with at least five
names we hadn’t heard before. They are Gisa Nogueira, Franco
Dilano, Osvaldo Fahel , Zaira and Dominguinhos do Estacio.
We knew the first two tracks by Aroldo Santos but overall lots
of new stuff. Pay attention all samba lovers, not to miss,

We hadden reeds één van hun plaatjes bijna een jaar geleden.
Ik ben niet zeker wie de zangers zijn op deze, de hoes zegt daar
helaas niets over. Een groot deel van de nummers wordt, zoals
te doen gebruikelijk bij dit soort groepen, door het hele clubje
tezamen gezongen. De samba is lekker, nummers van o.a. Wilson
Moreira, Antonio Carlos en Jocafi, Elton Medeiros, Yvonne Lara
en anderen, ik word er blij van, en jij..

We had us one of their albums almost one year ago. I’m not
entirely sure who are the lead singers on this one, sleeve infor-
mation is quite poor unfortunately. A big part of the songs is sung
by the whole group, the way we find often with this type of bands.
The samba is nice, we find songs of Wilson Moreira, Antonio Carlos
and Jocafi, Elton Medeiros, Yvonne Lara and others,
stuff that makes me happy, how about you..

Noem me een oude man, ik vind dit een heerlijke sound.
Roberto Silva begon zijn carriere bij de radio in zijn geboorte
stad, Rio de Janeiro. Eerste opnames stammen uit de jaren 40.
Grote voorbeelden waren Cyro Monteiro en Orlando Silva. Hij
heeft zo’n 350 platen opgenomen op 78 toeren en een 20-tal
elpees op het Copacabana label waarvan dit de elfde is.
Roberto Silva overleed in 2012 op 92 jarige leeftijd..

een onverwoestbaar geluid bracht die voort. Ik ben er altijd diep

Een keur aan artiesten op deze prettige verzameling sambas.
Het is een carnavals project uit 1976 met voor mij veel onbekende
zangers en zangeressen, alleen Oswaldo Nunes was me bekend.
Sommige tracks zijn wat aan de korte kant maar de hele plaat
is buitengewoon onderhoudend en klinkt erg lekker, een
verrassing voor elke samba liefhebber..

This fine collection of sambas shows us a galore of artists. It
concerns a carnaval project from 1976 with a row of unknown
singers, the only name I knew was Oswaldo Nunes. Some of the
songs are a little on the short side but overall the whole album
is fairly good and sounds very nice. A pleasant surprise
for all samba lovers, enjoy listening..

Dit samba elpeetje bleek ik reeds een tijd vergeten te hebben.
Tijdens de reorganisatie van m’n platen kwam ik hem weer
tegen. Heerlijke sound uit 1975, met Aroldo Santos en zijn
sambistas. Voor de liefhebbers een aanwinst..

this samba album which was in a forgotten corner. Great 1975
sound with Aroldo Santos and his sambistas. A winner
for lovers of the genre..

Vraag je mij wat het verschil is tussen Samba en Pagode
dan kan ik je dat niet uitleggen. Zo rond 1980 begint de samba
enigszins anders te klinken. De Braziliaan kan je precies vertellen
hoe het zit, de samba was veel sneller. Persoonlijk dacht ik juist
andersom. Als jij het weet mag je het ons uitleggen. De plaat van
Criolo Doido zou ik meer als Pagode klassificeren hoewel die in het
begin weer meer Samba is dan later. Pffff.. het duizelt me.
Luister zelf en trek je conclusie..

If you ask me what’s the difference between Samba and Pagode,
I really can’t explain. Around 1980 the samba starts to sound a little
different then before. A Brazillian can explain you exactly, Samba was
much faster. Personnaly I thought just the other way around. If you
know it, please enlighten us. This album by Criolo Doido I would
classify more as Pagode although the beginning is more Samba-like.
Pfff.. it makes me dizzy, listen and make up your own mind..
