Almost ten years ago I posted an album by these guys.
Five heroes in samba, Seu Jair do Cavaquinho, Nelson
Sargento, Elton medeiros, Mauro Duarte and Anescarzinho
do Salgueiro formed Os Cinco Crioulos. This is a record from
1969, sweet early samba songs. I am a huge lover of this sound.

Het is bijna tien jaar geleden dat ik een plaatje van deze jongens
heb gepost. Vijf samba helden in mijn optiek, Seu Jair do Cavaquinho,
Nelson Sargento, Elton medeiros, Mauro Duarte en Anescarzinho
do Salgueiro vormden Os Cinco Crioulos. Dit is en elpee uit 1969,
Heerlijke vroege sambas waar je ogenblikkelijk blij van wordt.

This early samba record is one from 1962. Walter Wanderley’s
organ rocks like no other’s. His records sound fresh as if recorded
only yesterday. Instrumentals are mostly not my favorites but for
this stuff I make an exception. Just like the albums of Ed Lincoln
some of his tracks are still in demand by today’s deejays. Very
cool bossa and samba from the old days..

Vandaag een vroege samba disc uit 1962. Walter Wanderley’s
orgeltje rockt nog steeds als geen ander. Zijn platen klinken nog
steeds fris alsof ze gisteren zijn opgenomen. Meestal en over het
algemeen ben ik niet zo van de instrumentalen maar voor dit spul
maak ik een uitzondering. net als sommige nummers van Ed Lincoln
zijn ook bepaalde tracks van Walter Wanderley zeer in trek bij
huidige deejays. Lekkere bossa samba sound uit de oude doos..

The lp was from 1985, the cd from 2000. Always fun listening to
Bezerra’s crazy lyrics. Samba for samba lovers, not to miss..

De elpee was uit 1985, de cd uit 2000. Altijd lachen met de teksten
van Bezerra. Liedjes over boeven, maatschappij kritisch, ghetto leven etc.
Samba voor samba liefhebbers, het pure spul en niet te missen..

Het begon ooit toen ik de film ‘Cidade de Deus’ voor het eerst zag.
Op het moment dat ik ‘Preciso me encontrar’ hoorde was ik op slag
verkocht, je vindt het op ‘Cartola – Cartola’ welke ik reeds plaatste op
23 augustus 2008. Dit is een van zijn albums van een jaar later, 1977.
Het origineel heb ik helaas niet maar wel deze cd release uit 2001.
Geen andere sambista is vergelijkbaar met Cartola, heerlijke
Braziliaanse blues, zoals ik het placht te noemen..luister..

It all began when I first saw the movie “Cidade de Deus’. The moment
‘Preciso me encontrar’ started to play, I was completely captured by
its wonderful sound. You can find it on ‘Cartola – Cartola’ which I already
posted on august 23rd, 2008. This is an album from one year later, 1977.
Unfortunately I do not own the original so we have to settle with this
cd release from 2001. No other sambista is comparable with Cartola.
I tend to call this Brazillian blues, just listen..

Cartola – Cartola

Een van de grootste samba diva’s die Brazilië kent is zonder
twijfel Elza Soares. Met haar 80 jaar treedt ze nog op, maakt
zelfs nog platen, onverwoestbare artieste. Ze wordt ook wel
Brazilië’s Tina Turner genoemd. De elpee die we hier hebben
komt uit 1975, de clip is uit 2015. Check haar op het web..

One of Brazil’s biggest samba stars is without any doubt Elza
Soares. 80 years of age she still performs, still produces records,
she is simply indestructible. They call her Brazil’s Tina Turner.
The album we’ve got here today is from 1975, the clip from 2015.

Goedenavond Groovers, het is hoog tijd voor een samplertje.
Hier is alweer nummer zestig, twintig tracks van elpees die
ongeveer een jaar geleden geplaatst zijn. je kent de drill, als
je iets mooi vindt hoef je slechts de titel in onze zoekbalk te

This afternoon I got completely in the samba mood. It was because
of the Brazillian program in which Zeca Pagodinho is receiving lots
of guests in his backyard. It is called ‘O Quintal do Zeca’ and once
you are going, there’s no stopping anymore. Martinho da Vila,
Beth Carvalho, Paulinho da Viola, Dudu Nobre, Maria Bethania,
Ze Roberto, it goes on and on, one number nicer than the other.
I just could not resist posting a samba album, meet Jurema,
a woman with a voice, so powerful, listen..

Vanmiddag ben ik volledig in de stemming van de samba geraakt.
Het komt door het programma waarin Zeca Pagodinho allerlei
gasten ontvangt in zijn achtertuin. De sfeer is zo lekker dat je er
niet meer weg komt, Martinho da Vila, Beth Carvalho, Paulinho
da Viola, Dudu Nobre, Maria Bethania, Ze Roberto, het houdt
gewoon niet op, het ene nummer nog fijner dan het andere.
Ik was zo in de mood dat een samba plaatje niet mocht ont-
breken vandaag. Maak kennis met Jurema, een vrouw met
zeer krachtige vokalen, luister zelf..

Hoje fiquei a tarde enteira no samba. Era por causa daquela
programa que chama ‘O Quintal do Zeca’. Zeca Pagodinho recebe
varios musicos e cantores no seu quintal. Que clima e ambiente muito
legal. Na hora que começa assistir, não dar pra parar. Martinho da Vila,
Beth Carvalho, Paulinho da Viola, Dudu Nobre, Maria Bethania, Ze Roberto,
uma musica melhor do que a outra. Depois não podia resistir te dar mais um
pouco de samba. Jurema é uma mulher com voz tão forte, escuta..

Today’s contribution is one I found on the web years ago and
normally I would not consider posting it but for this one I’m
making an exception. It is on my car stereo for days now and
I can’t seem to let it go. Now it seemed only logical sharing
it . Enjoy this sweet samba from the past..

Dit is een plaatje wat ik zelf jaren geleden van het web heb
gehaald. Ik heb hem al dagen lang op staan in de auto en kan
er maar niet los van komen. Het was onontkoombaar hem met
jullie te delen al zou ik dat normaal niet doen, een uitzondering.

It must have been back in the days, when Zecalouro was
still making his Loronix, the site that taught me so much
about Brazillian music, that I got aquainted with the music
of Donga. Various type of Samba and Choro which touched
my soul from the very beginning. I was extremely happy to
find this here album at the fair recently,
hope you feel the same.

Donga passed away when this album was still in production in
1974. The final track covers his declaration taken from the
Museum of Image & Sound in Rio de Janeiro.

Zecalouro van de Loronix site was de man die me bekend maakte
met de muziek van deze componist. Vanaf de eerste keer dat ik die
hoorde was ik erdoor geraakt. Donga’s diversiteit in Samba en Choro
is buitengewoon . Op deze elpee, zo blij dat ik hem vond op de laatste
platenbeurs, wordt hij vergezeld door een keur aan Braziliaanse
artiesten. Het zou mooi zijn als joe er ook zo blij van
zouden worden, probeer het eens.

Donga overleed terwijl dit album nog in productie was in 1974.
De laatste track beslaat slechts gesproken woord en komt
uit het Museum voor Beeld en Geluid in Rio de Janeiro.
