Today we have another album with Eba Aka Jerome. It is ‘La Verité’
from around 1980 which contains that song many people know from
the first Sound d’Afrique brought by Island in 1981. Check here.
The song was ‘Massoua Mo’ and not ‘Trahison’ like Mo commented.
Thank you Gerrit for pointing this out. The title song ‘La Vérité’ is a
killer too, maybe it was too long to put on the 1981 collector by
Island, that’s why today the complete album, enjoy..

Vandaag hebben we nog zo’n pracht plaat met Eba Aka Jerome.
Het is ‘La Verité’, de Waarheid een welk die song bevat die velen
kennen van de in 1981 uitgebrachte verzamelaar Sound d’Afrique
op Island Records volume één. Kijk zelf maar eens hier.
Het nummer was natuurlijk ‘Massoua Mo’ en niet ‘Trahison’ zoals
Mo beweerde in zijn commentaar deze week. Dank je Gerrit voor het
opfrissen van m’n geheugen. De titel song op deze elpee, ‘La Vérité’
is trouwens ook een killer, misschien was ie te lang om op die Island
verzamelaar te zetten, vandaar vandaag het hele
werk, luister ernaar met veel plezier..

music from Colombia. Let’s see what we’ve got, a collector
containing songs by some greats in the field. We open with
a stunning track by los Playoneros del Cesar, the rhythms
are just amazing. Then we find Andrés Landero who always
guarantees a solid sound. Further on there’s Luis Enrique
Martinez, Armando Zabaleta, Rafael mendoza and Ismael
Rudas. Just the stuff we love to hear. Listen & share..

Het is nu toch echt weer tijd voor de zo geliefde muziek
uit Colombia. Laat eens zien wat we hier hebben, een
verzamelaar met songs van een aantal van de meesters
op dit gebied. We beginnen met een zeer strak nummer
van Los Playoneros del Cesar, overweldigende ritmes.
Dan vinden we Andrés Landero die altijd garant staat
voor een heerlijke sound. Verder zijn daar Luis Enrique
Martinez, Armando Zabaleta, Rafael mendoza en Ismael
Rudas. Precies het spul wat we het liefst horen.

Zit wel lekker in Afrikaanse sferen de laatste tijd hè..
Geen idee hoe het komt, de ene keer blijf je hangen
in Colombia en dan weer in Jamaica, dit keer op het
Afrikaanse continent. Nigeria is een land waar muzikaal
veel te halen valt. De afrobeat is niet zo aan mij besteed
maar de highlife, juju en ook wel de fuji en apala zijn erg
boeiend. Vandaag een tamelijk onbekend artiest waar
ik je dan ook niets over vertellen kan, luisteren maar..

Lately quite a lot of African here at the GG, Don’t know
why but I kind a got stuck on the continent. We knew
periods of Jamaican, Colombian, West Indian, this time
African atmospheres have me captured for a while. Nigeria
is a country with a wealth of styles. Afrobeat is not so much
my cup of tea but highlife, juju and also fuji and apala are
more fascinating. Today an album by Aloy Anyanwu about
whom I can’t tell you anything useful, just listen..

On the 4th of may I posted Sofia Rosa which was more or less the
first Angolan post here at the GG. Searching for Angolan music is
a frustrating thing, hardly anything appears on fairs or markets.
And if you find something, huge prices are asked. That’s why I’m
extremely happy to bring you this independence album by Teta
Lando. It is a beginning but who knows, it is to be continued..

Op de vierde mei j.l. plaatste ik hier Sofia Rosa welke zo’n beetje
de eerste Angolese post was op de Global Groove. Het zoeken
naar Angolese muziek is een frustrerende bezigheid. Je vindt in deze
contreien niet of nauwelijks iets en àls je al iets vindt, betaal je direct
de hoofdprijs. Daarom ben ik zeer verheugd vandaag deze plaat van
Teta Lando te kunnen brengen. Het is een begin, wie weet wat volgt..

Do you know that great Soundway Records collector named ‘Tumbélé’?
It is on there I first heard l’Ensemble Abricot with ‘Chonga’, a marvelous
guaguanco from Martinique. This week I stumbled upon this record
on which we find ‘Chonga’ and a bunch of other latin songs by this
wonderful band. From Martinique’s 1968, not to be missed..

Ken je die geweldige compilatie cd op Soundway Records genaamd
‘Tumbélé’? Het was op die cd dat ik voor het eerst kennis maakte met
‘Chonga’, een heerlijke guaguanco van l’Ensemble Abricot uit Martinique.
Deze week botste ik op deze elpee waar die track vanaf komt. De plaat
bevat nog een aantal prachtige latin songs van deze fijne band.

Reeds jaren staat hij in de kast, deze elpee van Stanislas Tohon.
De afgelopen week werd in ene duidelijk dat hij volledig gehypet
is niet lang geleden. Er gaan prijzen tot wel € 500,- voor deze plaat.
Absurde bedragen natuurlijk en daarom krijg je hem vandaag
gewoon weer gratis hier op de GG. Het schijnt dat er passages
op voorkomen met water dums, weet jij waar ze zitten..?

It is waiting here for years, this album by Stanislas Tohon. Only
this week it became clear it hyped completely over the past time.
I heard some people pay prices up to € 500,- for it. Totally absurd
of course and that’s why we’re giving it away here at the GG
today. It seems the album contains passages with water
drumming, do you know where to find them..?

Closing the juju marathon we’ve got us this album of sixties
songs by the great Ebenezer Obey. It was released in 1980
but covers twelve songs from the sixties. Those were the days
he was leading the band under the name Chief Commander Obey
and his International Brothers Band and before changing into the
Inter-Reformers Dance Band. Ebenezer Obey’s real name is
Ebenezer Fabiyi. The 12 songs on this record were all best
sellers throughout the 1960’s, listen and share.
The chief is 76 jaar old at the moment..

Vandaag sluiten we de juju marathon af met dit album vol songs
uit de zestiger jaren van Ebenezer Obey. Hij kwam uit in 1980 maar
de nummers zijn uit de 60’s. Dat waren de dagen dat Ebenezer de
band nog leidde onder de naam Chief Commander Ebenezer Obey
and his International Brothers Band en voordat hij die veranderde
in the Inter-Reformers Dance Band. Ebenezer Obey’s echte naam is
Ebenezer Fabiyi. De twaalf songs op deze plaat waren allemaal

We already had an album by the other Prince General Adekunle
student, Segun Adewale. Today his buddy Sir Shina Peters finds his
way to you. Sir Shina takes the juju to a whole new level, it sounds
very nineties so to speak. In 1989 He was given four Nigerian Music
Awards for the release of his album ‘Ace’. Artiste of the year, song of
the year, album of the year and juju artiste of the year. The afro juju
disco style he displays is highly infectious and
served a huge public. Dance away..

We hadden reeds een elpee van die andere Prince General Adekunle
leerling, Segun Adewale. Vandaag is de beurt aan zijn vriend Sir Shina
Peters. Sir Shina tilt de juju naar een heel ander niveau, het klinkt echt

Sixth in row in this week of juju we’ve got the great I.K. Dairo and
his Blue Spot. From 1980 and on Skylark Records this is an ode to
Ayinla Omowura, an apala star. We’ll get back to him one fine day.
I.K. Dairo is the one juju artist who used the accordion in his music.
The records on which are rare however, sorry, not this one. Always
on the lookout for his records, unfortunately they are hard to find.
The various online discographies are far from complete, he made
many but little is displayed. Get and share as usual..

Zesde in rij tijdens onze week van de juju is de grote I.K. Dairo met
zijn band de Blue Spot. Uit 1980 en op Skylark Records is dit een ode
aan Ayinla Omowura, een apala ster over wie een andere keer meer.
I.K. Dairo is voor zover ik weet de enige juju artiest die de accordeon
gebruikte. De platen waarop hij dit doet zijn helaas zeldzaam, sorry,
niet op deze dus. Ondanks de eeuwige zoektocht naar zijn platen
vinden we ze slechts spaarzaam. De diverse online discografieën
zijn helaas verre van compleet. Hij maakte er vele maar weinige
zijn terug te vinden. Veel luisterplezier met deze plaat..
