vier uit de Dominicaanse Republiek. Dit is merengue ripiao, een
type merengue zo snel dat je oren ervan klapperen. We hadden
ooit een plaatje van francisco Ulloa in deze stijl, zoek hem met

ook wel ‘Manos Bionicas’, bionische handen genoemd. Bartolo

Yesterday we saw three acordeon heroes from Colombia, today
four from the Dominican Republic. This is merengue ripiao, a type

We hadden reeds volume 2 en 5, vandaag is hier dan eindelijk
volume 1. Ik heb slechts één vermelding kunnen vinden op het
web. Deze spreekt over 1964. Dat lijkt me wat aan de vroege kant
maar ik kan me vergissen. Hoe dan ook, de 3 reyes albums zijn
zeer de moeite waard en heten dan ook terecht drie koningen
der accordeon, vallenato door drie toppers uit het genre..

We already had volumes 2 and 5, today we finally have volume 1.
I only found one site on which it is mentioned and they speak of
1964 as the year of release. It seems a bit early but I could be
wrong of course. If you know, please tell us. One way or the
other, the 3 reyes albums are worth their while and the
name three kings is very much deserved, they are
truly great. Give ’em a chance and listen..

Dutch stars however, the third equipe in the world on the
last tournament did not classify, big shame. Toto & Rodrigue

Ze smaken zoals ze kraken..
Bij het zien van een jaren 70 Congolese elpee op Pathé Marconi
gaat het hart direkt wat sneller kloppen. Dit is er zo eentje. Wat
een prachtige plaat weer. Kouka Celio, Pamelo Mounk’a en Kosmos
Moutouari vormden deze band. Al hun albums trekken enthousiaste
luisteraars en deze zal daarop geen uitzondering vormen, hoor zelf..

Finding a seventies Congolese album on the Pathé Marconi label
makes the heart beat faster. This one is such a record. What a
beauty it is. Kouka Celio, Pamelo Mounk’a and Kosmos Moutouari
are the guys who formed this band. Their elpees always generate
an enthousiastic public and this one will surely do too, listen.

De schoonzoon van Franco is terug deze zondag. Met zijn ietwat
hese stemgeluid heeft hij bij mij een speciaal plekje veroverd.
Deze plaat stamt uit 1984, een jaar waarin heel wat strakke
albums zijn verschenen op gebied van Congolese muziek.
Couper-Soucis vormt hierop zeker geen uitzondering
en verkeert ook nog eens in top conditie.

Franco’s son in law is back this fine sunday. With his somewhat
hoarse sound of voice he managed to find a special place in my
heart. This album is from 1984, a year in which quite some tight
Congolese records were made. Couper-Soucis certainly does
not form an exception in that perspective and
finds itself in an excelent condition.

De elpee die we hier hebben op Discos Fuentes uit 1973 is een
mix van Colombiaanse en Puerto Ricaanse nummers. Een beetje
vreemde combinatie van stijlen maar wel heel fijn om zo door
elkaar te beluisteren. De plaat bevat een aantal juweeltjes
die de trommelvliezen strelen, luister zelf..

The record we’ve got us here today on Discos Fuentes from 1973
contains a mixture of Colombian and Puerto Rican songs. A little
strange combination of styles but quite pleasurable to listen to
this way. The album contains a number of sheer jewels
that will tickle your eardrums, listen yourself..

Op Editions Syliphone Conakry vinden we dit prachtige stukje
rumba-guinée. Balla et ses Balladins is een artiest die al jaren
enthousiaste luisteraars tekt. Gebruik onze zoekbalk en vind
meer van deze band. De plaat is uit 1974 en draagt wel wat
ruis met zich mee helaas. De trackvolgorde op de hoes is
niet hetzelfde als op het label, ik heb het label gevolgd.
Jaartal is ook verschillend, label 1974, hoes 1975..

On editions Syliphone Conakry we find this nice slice of
rumba-guinée. Balla et ses Balladins is an artist who pleases
lots of listeners for many years. Use our search-bar to find more
by this group. This album is from 1974 and sounds a little dusty
I’m afraid. Still wonderful to listen though. The trackorder on the
sleeve is not the same as on the label, I followed the latter.

Van de Franse Antillen komen deze twee bands. Les Leopards en
Ry-Co Jazz uit Martinique. Zij spelen compas, cadence, biguine,
rumba en tumbele, mazurka en rempa doen ze ook. Vandaag in

hier voor de eerste keer verschijnt en waarvan ik je helemaal niets
zinnigs kan vertellen. Dit is Igbo highlife van klasse, heerlijke
ritmes, mooie blaaspartijen maar een totaal onbekende leider.

veel informatie over de ‘Igbo’ muzikanten maar behalve
zijn achternaam is ook hier niets over hem te vinden.
Wie ons iets kan vertellen, zeer welkom..

On Afrodisia today we find this here album by an artist appearing
here first time. An artist of whom I can’t seem to tell you anything
interesting. This is Igbo highlife of quality, great rhythms, nice
horn arrangements and a totally unknown leader. We do find his
last name on http://likembe.blogspot.nl/search/label/Igbo , but
that’s all. If you can tell us something useful, be my guest..

Volume één van Sikyi Highlife uit 1974 was een plaat die de hele wereld
zocht. Het duurde 15 jaar voordat Dr. K. Gyasi deel twee uitbracht. Ook
hier op de GG heeft het even geduurd voordat we met deze volume twee
op de proppen komen, vijf en een half jaar om precies te zijn. De elpees
zijn tamelijk verschillend en toch ook weer niet,
luister zelf en trek je conclusie..

Volume one of Sikyi Highlife from 1974 is an album very much in demand.
It took Dr. K. Gyasi 15 years to release this part two. Here at the GG it
also took quite some time, vife and a half year to be precise. The albums
are quite different from each other but similar too,
listen and make up your own mind..
