What have we got cooking for you today ?
This record with J.A. Agboola and his Beaming Star contains
Nigerian music, that much is clear. But how to define it is the
question. The rhythms are pointing towards juju, lots of talking
drums and such, the guitar parts and vocals are more highlife
related however. A typical album I would file under juju highlife.
It appears in good condition although from 1978, we’re lucky
to have it. Listen and make up your own mind ..Goeiemorgen, wat hebben we vandaag voor je uitgezocht ?
Deze plaat met J.A. Agboola and his Beaming Star vol. 3 bevat
Nigeriaanse muziek, zoveel is duidelijk.
noemen. Hij verkeert in prima conditie alhoewel uit 1978.
Luister zelf en bedenk wat jij ervan vindt ..01 – Eiye to ku nitori eso

It was back in 2011 when I discovered the works of Plutarco
Urrutia. The first song I heard was ‘Esperando a Patricia’, to be
heard on my Colompilation no. 5. Later in 2014 we had his ’79
album ‘La Manguita’. Today we find this record from 1978
called ‘La Hamaca Vacia’. In 2020 we saw this title on an
elpee which he did together with Pachito Rada, the song was
quite different however. I’m always excited about the strong
nummer ‘Esperando a Patricia’. Het staat op mijn Colompilation
no. 5.

Impossible to travel to Portugal without looking for Angolan
records. I found this album in Coimbra last week. Semba is
the name of the style and I love it. Their self titled record
was recorded in the studio’s of Angola’s Rádio Nacional
in 1984. Always happy to bring some of this hard to
find music. Enjoy listening to ‘Os Jovens do Prenda’.Het is onmogelijk om niet naar Angolese platen te zoeken
als je Portugal bezoekt. Ik vond dit album in Coimbra vorige
week.
Angola’s Rádio Nacional in 1984.
luister naar ‘Os Jovend do Prenda’.Rebita 75 1975

We just got back from a short break spent in Portugal. April 1st
there was some 8 cm of snow in the Netherlands so the timing
to leave was perfect. When coming back yesterday we found
20 degrees Celsius, quite a lot better. What have we got for you
today ? A samba album with Joel Teixeira, when posting one
almost ten years ago it was received quite well. This one is
from 1981, first released in 1979 Joel was loyal to the
seventies sound. Happy and solid listening here ..Zojuist terug van een korte vakantie in Portugal.
Toen we gisteren terug kwamen troffen we

plaatsten. Het was Dr. Victor Abimbola’s ‘In the Sixties’.
Vandaag krijgt
hij deze updates en jij dus ook. Luister nogmaals ..It is almost 14 years ago we had our very first post. It
was Dr. Victor Abimbola’s ‘In the Sixties’. In those days
I didn’t place all the right tags like nowadays. About time
to do that and update the file, today you may find the better
version. I’d say get it, especially when you didn’t before.Dr. Victor Olaiya’s All Stars International, Ilu Le O! 1983

Born Carlos Quintana in Venezuela, 1943, Tabaco was singer
and percussionist. Today we find his first album with Los Metales,

He had his prime time during the late 50’s and early sixties.
After a long hiatus from 1962, in which a few collectors
appeared, he came back in 1974 through this album, Salt ‘n
Pepper. It was the time in which calypso slowly evolved into
soca, I’m glad Lord Melody still brings calypso on this one.
Lord Melody was one of the main calypsonians with Lord
Kitchener and Mighty Sparrow, a true pioneer ..Calypso Through the Looking Glass 1960

Always a pleasure to listen to the legendary ‘Les Bantous de la
Capitale’. We find a number of great musicians on this album,
Pamelo Mounk’a, Kosmos Moutouari, Nino Malapet, jean
Serge Essous, Celestin N’Kouka, Samba Mascot & Passy
Mermans among others. Despite the ‘Ave Maria’ I think
it is a decent record. Quite some albums with these guys
in other forms, see below.

zoals Pamelo Mounk’a, Kosmos Moutouari, Nino Malapet, jean
Serge Essous, Celestin N’Kouka, Samba Mascot & Passy Mermans
plaat is.
