- Monday December 21, 20095 comments on Al Bowlly – Al Bowlly, World Records
…and now for something competely different…
Somehow, when we come to this time of the year, I start to
play old stuff like this one by Al Bowlly. It makes me think
of the Dennis Potter TV series; ‘The Singing Detective’ ? I always
loved it, it is filled with this type of sound and plays back in
the days. Most of these tracks were taken from movies from the
30’s and accompanied by ‘Ray Noble and his Orchestra’ and the
‘Savoy Hotel Orpheans’. It’s the music my parents danced to
when they were dating. Great nostalgic atmosphere.tracks;

I could not resist posting another album today. This one by the
African All Stars is without Sam Mangwana but with a couple of other
greats. Dizzy Mandjeku, Lokassa ya Mbongo, Kanta Nyboma and on drums
K. Moya Lotula Ringo. What a great band this is, better do not miss !

This is the type of highlife I like best, original Ghana pressing
on the great Ambassador label. I’m sure it will light up your
sunday as it has done with mine already. Enjoy !

It’s cold in the Netherlands, with some 8 degrees Celsius below zero,
the coldest day untill now. The whole country is covered with snow,
cold but beautiful. This is a picture of my backyard from this morning.
Quite a contrast with the warm tropical atmosphere on this nice record.
It’s from 1975 and I can’t tell you very much about it. S.B.B. du Congo
stands for Super Boboto du Congo and exists from 1968.
Track No 5 has a little jump I could not avoid unfortunately.tracks;

In 1961, saxophonist Jerry Hansen stole some musicians from
the Black Beats and formed his Ramblers International. For some
20 years they dominated the Ghana highlife scene, Jerry Hansen
junior led the band in their late days. On this 1976 LP we find
songs by Ampadu, Donkor, Oppong, famous names in highlife-land.tracks;

If I understood correctly, Ramito’s music is very popular
with Christmas in Puerto Rico. On this album, Ramito is once
more accompanied by Conjunto, Toñito Ferrer y sus Jibaros Modernos.
The rhythms have beautiful names like, Aguinaldo, Mapayé
and Ritmo Boricua among others, enjoy them.tracks;

Tuesday evening,
home late from work, lots of turbulence during the opening of
this week. Then finally relaxed, ripping an LP, throw it up
the digital highway and chill out. Feels good.
Especially with this one, what have we got ?From 1969, a jewel of an album.
The great Docteur Nico brings it Perfectly
simple or simlpy perfect. Either one works for me.
And to get in the mood already, I borrowed us this
nice video. It comes from fellowblogger Worldservice, check.tracks;
1 Mokili ya nzambe

In the month of may I already posted volume_3.
Today’s LP is volume 1. The other had No. 13.272,
this one 13.270 so I recon it must be from 1982 or 1983. Besides a couple
of names it does not give us much information, Bavouéza-Guinot seems to
be the leading man. vocals by Jacky M’bani, Nzau Poba, Makundi,
Bolangassa and Bavouéza. Hope U like.tracks;

Some juju for your saturdaynight. This album is a compilation
of some old favourites with new adaptions, as KSA describes it.
You’d have to see this being said in 1983 of course. Special on
this LP, to my opinion, is the instrumental version of his big
hit ‘Ja fun mi’. It makes me think of the dubversions like in
reggae music, complete with delay, echoes and other sound effects.tracks;
1 Synchro Series
2 Mo ti mo
3 Ja fun mi ( instrumental )
4 MaajoPosted by Moosat 9:58 PMCategories
