During the 70’s there were lot’s of groups in Rio de Janeiro
like Os Bambas, Os Originais do samba or this one, who played
renditions of famous sambas. On this 1974 LP, Os Batuqueiros e
as Mulatas play songs by greats like Benito di Paula, Antonio Carlos
e Jocafi, Aparecida, Adoniran Barbosa, Mano Decio, Zé Di, Zuzuca,
Martinho da Vila and Dorival Caymmi. Great sambas by a great band.

Two times a year, the biggest record-fair of Europe takes place
just 20 minutes from my home. One of my best friends owns a recordstore
and is participant on the fair. So lucky me, on friday I help him
build up his stand and off I am. Public comes on saturday, first choice
and lots of space. I almost feel guilty snatching away so much goodies
but you’re all lucky with me, I found some real treasures to share.To start of I posted that fantastic highlife album by Vis-a-Vis yesterday.
Todays jewel is one that was released originally in 1971. This is the
1976 re-issue. Superb vocals by the great Vicky and as always, Franco’s
OK Jazz delivers high quality backing, sweet saxophones and guitars.

From 1969, 1970 is this album by le Seigneur Rochereau. Ndombe Pepe
wrote tracks 4 and 6, Rochereau the other 6 tracks. In fact, that’s
the only thing I know sure. I thought I knew Rochereau as a singer,
but is he performing in some kind of way on this LP ? It is an all
instrumental album. Does he play the guitar perhaps ? I hope one of
you African music friends can clear this up for us. Meanwhile, listen.tracks;

Some LP covers don’t give any information, others give you an overload,
such as this one. Front and back give us plenty to read about this band.
The only thing I miss is a year of release, do you know ? Offspring of the
old Zaïko Langa Langa, this LP must be from the later 80’s. Uptempo
top of the bill Soukous, enjoy it.tracks;
