- Tuesday September 15, 20094 comments on Alhaja Queen Salawa Abeni and her Waka Moderniser -We are the Children, Kollington Records 1989
To continue we have us an album by Alhaja Queen Salawa Abeni, she
was the one with two requests so here she is. Salawa has a full and
strong voice, surrounded by all those drums this sounds fabulous.
Rare Nigerian material you don’t get to hear every day, check it
and stay tuned, there’s some great stuff yet to follow.tracks;

Gente, hoje sou feliz pa’caramba. O sorte que eu tenho, não é molhe não.
Olhe o que achei, um pedaço de ouro que te vai fazer doido. Abaixe rapido.Look what I found today. On my never ending search for records I went to
a town I don’t visit frequently and got real lucky. The score is so nice I
hardly know where to start. I found some samba albums on the OKeh label,
a branch of CBS, of which the first post. Three albums on the
Romanian ‘Electrecord’ label, some Discos Fuentes from Colombia, some great
LP’s on Syliphone, Eddy’Son, just super and you can share that luck with me.
Tell me what to post next, and most wanted goes first.
There’s also some Choc Stars, Fuji with a female singer called Salawa Abeni,
Docteur Nico, Jonah Moyo and Pamelo Mounk’a. Coupé Cloué or Lisandro Meza.Now about this album, when I saw Zuzuca between those LP’s I had a shiver
going down my spine. An album like this doesn’t show up every day and I realised
immediately, we’ve got something special here. OKeh stands for topnotch samba
and I didn’t need more then one listen to know I struck gold. This is one of
the best samba LP’s I have ever heard. No less then 14 tracks, one
even better than the other. The pile of OKeh’s counts one other Zuzuca
and 4 samba collectors, plain fantastic !Vamos a Sambar a noite inteira !

If you like Romanian ‘Lautari’, this one is for you.
This album was released in 1984, the recordings must be
much older though, she passed away in 1963, not even 50 years old.
I do not understand Romanian but this music is beautiful,
even without knowing what it means she sings, I enjoy Maria Tanase’s
warm voice. For your relaxed sunday afternoon.tracks;

This 33 year old album has an almost invisible cover, it wobbles and
whirls and wanders about ’cause the hole is not in the middle. Still,
even while sometimes false, a good listen worth. Sweet
highlife by the Oriental Brothers.tracks;
1 Murtala Mohammed
2 Nkwa pt. 1

The past three days have been quite good if I see that the GG had
some 5300 pageloads, over 2600 visitors and 315 downloads. Let’s see
how Youlou Mabiala does. Youlou enjoys great popularity and
has a beautiful voice. I have read Youlou suffered from some kind of stroke
while performing on stage in Congo last year. His left side was paralised
en could not speak. Meanwhile he’s been doing a little better, let’s wish
him all the best. Enjoy listening to Franco’s son in law.tracks;

From Puerto Rico we have an album by the great ‘Ramito’.
His full name is Morales Ramos and he was one of the last to bring
a simple string-based Jibaro sound. His love for Puerto Rico, his ‘patria’,
( motherland ) is a favourite theme on practically all his albums.tracks;
1 El plato del dia
2 Soy el canario
3 Sospiros y dolamas
4 Amor y patria
5 El dia en que yo muera
6 El cantar de Puerto Rico

Yesterday, when I was ripping this here album, I found out it was
released under a different name too. It is the same one as this_one .
The photo on ‘Grands Succes’ is from much later then 1977 if I’m not
mistaking, so this one should be older logically. Anyway, it’s an
outstanding LP so I don’t mind posting it again, enjoy it once more.tracks;
1 Matata ya muasi na mobali ekoki kosila te 1&2
2 Radio Trottoir 1&2
3 Oko rgretter ngai mama 1&2

Another Tribute album in juju style today. Chief Commander Ebenezer
brings it to the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo. Ebenezer flirts with
western influences on this LP and calls it ‘Miliki Sound’.
Extremely nice talking drums, sweeet juju.tracks;

Over one year ago, in july 2008, I already posted ‘Me_Poma’. It was the
Stern’s European release of this album. I bought it back in 1984 and played
it eversince. About 6 months ago I found this original. It sounds a bit
rougher then the one I knew and it contains one track less. From this copy we
learn it was written and arranged by ‘Nana Kwame Ampadu I’. I always loved
Me Poma so another posting seems absolutely justified, enjoy.tracks;

Here’s a piece of Yoruba Juju History, a Sunny Adé from 1976.
To my humble opinion one of the better albums. Unfortunately
it has some pops and crakcle, I guess it is worth at least a
couple of spins though. Get it and spread it ..Hier is een plaatje met wat Yoruba Juju historie met Sunny
Adé uit 1976. Ik denk zelf één van zijn betere albums. Hij
heeft wel wat plopjes en kraakjes maar is het toch waard om
op z’n minst enkele keren te draaien naar mijn mening.
Pak hem, luister en geef door aan je vrienden ..tracks;
1 Late General Murtala Muhammed
– Afemi afemi
– Asa nke
2 Ominu Nkomi
– Ika to to simu
– Odofin bello
– Mo beru agbaPosted by Moosat 9:31 PMCategories
