There are some who say that Congolese rumba – lovely, graceful
and charming though it was in the good old days – is now a faded
relic of the past. But they haven’t heard this album. Two veterans
of those good old days – guitarist and songwriter Dino Vangu and
singer Sam Mangwana – have re-united to show that their beloved
rumba is alive and well, and still as beautiful and

Good morning folks. Politics are not my cup of tea and I am not
trying to make a statement. However, lately I must admit I am
concerned about the situation in Afghanistan. Since international
forces are pulling out, this once so promising land is doomed to
fall back in oppression again. As a lover of this ancient culture
and collector of Afghan antiques it touches me to see the good
people struggle. In february 2018 I already posted volume 1,
today we find the second volume of ‘Folk Music
of Afghanistan’. Enjoy listening ..

Goeiemorgen muziek vrienden. Politiek is niet iets waar ik me
veel mee bezig houd. De laatste tijd echter maak ik me wel
zorgen over de situatie in Afghanistan. Sinds de internationale
gemeenschap de troepen terug trekt uit dit eens zo veelbelovende
land, dreigt het wederom te vervallen in onderdrukking. Als liefhebber
van de oude cultuur en verzamelaar van Afghaanse antiquiteiten gaat
het me aan het hart de bevolking hiermee te zien stoeien. In februari

Fria region in Guinea, who form a band in their free time.
Sombory de Fria or Sombory Jazz de Fria. One way or the
other, they could really play. A fine blend of Guinean and
Afro-Cuban style music. Get it and spread it ..

Dit vind ik nou zo’n mooi verhaal hè .. een groep mijnwerkers
uit de Fria regio in Guinée die in hun vrije tijd een band vormen.
Sombory de Fria of ook wel Sombory Jazz de Fria. En ze konden
behoorlijk spelen deze jongens. Een blend van Afro-Cubaanse

Completing her discography today this is the fourth album
we have with Sir Waziri Oshomah’s wife Hassanah. It is her
third record from 1985, find the other three below. Sir Waziri
is also present doing some background vocals. Listen ..

The records of Sir Waziri Oshomah came in a variation of subtle
name differences. This is the only one I’ve seen in which is spoken
of ‘THE’ Traditional Sound Makers and not ‘HIS’. It is from 1982
and has this nice sleeve with the four boys on the hood of his
Mercedes. At least one of them is taking it very serious.

I was asked to play on a friend’s wedding. The happy couple
made a little wishlist on which Half Pint’s ‘Greetings’ was noted
among other nice tracks. This was when I realised. Never ripped
and posted his work yet. High time to put things right and bring
you Half Pint. This is his 1986 album, originally in another sleeve.

For this once we follow up on a post of HTD. Jillem just
posted ‘Uwa Ekwe Nmeta’ by Imo Brothers International.
It inspired me to do another album with Fiddey Onwuneme
and his group. This is ‘Kwurumenu’ from 1983, also on Afrodisia.
An Owerri highlife band with firm sound such as Oriental and
Continental Brothers for instance. Get it and Spread it ..

From Colombia we have this record with ‘musica parrandera’ or
just ‘parranda’ today. We have had some albums with it before.
The greatest in this style was without doubt Guillermo Buitrago
but we also had Efrain Gonzalez, Bovea, Pedro Quinta, José A.
Bedoya and others. These musicians used to go around from
bar to bar initially to play their mostly guitar based tropical
sound. A few drinks and a flirt adding to the atmosphere ..

Uit Colombia hebben we vandaag deze plaat met ‘musica parrandera’
of gewoon ‘parranda’. We zagen al eerder wat van deze muziek. De
grootste op dit gebied was natuurlijk Guillermo Buitrago maar we
