Dear visitors, As some of you may have noticed, Jillem
from Holland Tunnel Dive and I point in each other’s
direction on a regular basis. Thank you for doing so
Jillem. I have tried to find a way to contact HTD
several times but have not found it so far. I don’t
know Jillem but maybe we can create a portal here at
the Global Groove to let him know how grateful we are
for all the incredible work he has been doing. So folks,
you can leave a message to Jillem here and Jillem, you
can respond here too. I’m sure you have a good reason
not to allow comments on your wonderful blog but you
must understand people like to leave you a note once
in a while. I for instance want to thank you for the
numerous super nice albums you post. This is one I
really love a lot, Pedro Lima rocks like no other !!

Goedemorgen groevers, vandaag hebben we een plaat die alleen voor de
doorgewinterde liefhebbers van juju te beluisteren valt. De geluidskwaliteit
laat nogal te wensen over. Met een beetje geluk vind ik hem in de toekomst
nog eens in betere conditie maar voor nu zullen we het hiermee moeten doen.
De laatste keer dat ik dit zei poste Jillem (Holland Tunnel Dive) direct
een betere versie, Jillem .. ?

Wat hebben we hier ? Het betreft een tamelijk zeldzame uitvoering met The
Wizard Guitarist Emperor Pick Peters and his Seidormatic System, vol. 4. We
hadden volume 3 reeds in december 2016. Die klinkt overigens een heel stuk
beter. Hoe dan ook, de juju is buitengewoon fijn als je door de
kraakjes heen kunt luisteren.

Good morning groovers, today we have a record that can only be listened to
by the most diehard juju lover. Its soundquality is far from perfect and leaves
us with wishes for a better one. With a bit of luck I’ll find a better copy in the
future but for now we’ll have to settle with this one. The last time I said some-
thing like this Jillem (Holland Tunnel Dive) came with
a clean version the same day, Jillem .. ?

What have we got here ? It concerns a quite rare album with The Wizard
Guitarist Emperor Pick Peters and his Seidormatic System vol. 4. We had
volume 3 already in december 2016. That vol sounds much better by the
way. One way or the other, the juju is very nice if you’re able
to listen through the crackles ..

Mohammed Malcolm Ben was born in eastern Ghana. He started
as a musician with the Messenger’s Dance Band T.O. Jazz, I.K.’s
Band and the K.K. Masters. As a producer he started in 1970, did
African brother’s album ‘Agatha’ and ‘Owuo Aye Me Bi’ and City Boys’
album ‘Ankwanobi’. Mohammed Malcolm Ben took his name from
famous Afro-American activist Malcolm X whom he met in 1963
when the latter was visiting Ghana. When working on this album
in 1983 Malcolm Ben explained; “It is my intention to pay tribute
to all black warriors, both African and Afro-American who have
suffered and died in the struggle to liberate black people.”

Zeggen we City Boys dan zeggen we the Black Chinese of
Chairman Muo oftewel Obuoba J.A. Adofo. Hij was de leider
van deze briljante Ghanese highlife band. Alle platen van deze
jongens zijn geweldig goed. Als je er eenmaal aan begint is het
moeilijk stoppen met luisteren naar de aanstekelijke highlife.
Dit album, City Boys in Nigeria, vol. 1, liegt er niet om, een
must have voor elke liefhebber, get it, spread it en luister ..

If we say City Boys, we say the Black Chinese or Chairman Muo.
Obuoba A.J. Adofo was the leader of this brilliant Ghanaian highlife
band. All their records are very good and once you start it is difficult
to stop listening to the infectious highlife they bring. This album,
City Boys in Nigeria, vol. 1, does not lie about it, a must have
for every lover of Ghanaian highlife, get it, spread it & listen ..

Tony Moncada en zijn combo spelen de meest krachtige
Colombiaanse tunes op deze plaat uit 1976. Variërend
van salsa tot paseo en merengue, hangt de sound tussen
vallenato en tropical met de zangers Armando Hernández,
Nacho Paredes en de broers Lenín en Francisco Bueno.
Het album verschijnt op Caliente en dat is de muziek
ook zonder enige wijfel, hot hot Colombian gold ..

Tony Moncada y su Combo play the most powerful Colom-
bian tunes on this record from 1976. Moving between salsa
to paseo and merengue, the sound varies from vallenato
to tropical with singers Armando Hernández, Nacho Paredes
and the brothers Lenín and Francisco Bueno. This album
appears on Caliente and that cant most certainly be said
about the music, hot hot Colombian gold ..

Some of the most mellow Nigerian highlife was made by
Chief Stephen Osita Osadebe. He made a huge pile of
records of which I still need to find a bunch. This is number
18 here at the GG, the last one I can offer for now. Let’s
hope, when the covid madness allows us to have another
record fair, more of these sweet Osadebe albums pop up.
Always a pleasure to listen to the Consistent
Highlife King, get it & spread it ..

Één van de meest relaxte highlife makers uit Nigeria was
zonder twijfel Chief Stephen Osita Osadebe. Hij maakte
een enorme stapel fijne platen waarvan ik er nog flink
wat hoop te vinden in de toekomst. Dit is nummer 18 hier
op de GG en voorlopig de laatste die ik heb. Laten we hopen,
zodra de covid gekte overwaait, en er weer platenbeurzen
mogen worden georganiseerd, dat ik nog veel van deze
Osadebe albums zal tegenkomen. Voor nu, down, deel
en luister met plezier naar de Consistent
Highlife King ..
