Our minds are funny things, do you know that phenomenon ?
The way an lp sleeve can influence what we think about it..
When we see a cover with a cheesy picture of a nude, we
expect a lesser album then when seeing an album cover
like this one. Our perception can fool us sometimes but
in this particular case the sleeve doesn’t lie. I think this
lp is exceptional good as frontsleeve already suggests.
Great picture of a great band, Anibal Velasquez made
dozens of albums. Though not entirely sure, I’ve got
reason to believe this lp is from 1974. What ever
year it was, ‘Golpe Currambero’ will convince
you of Anibal Velasquez’ quality’s,
listen and agree..

This 1984 album on Makossa fascinates from beginning to end.
Sir Shina Peter’s afro-juju is full of surprising turns and sounds,
We had a ‘Sir Shina Adewale’ album in december 2008, here’s
the link to that album as well.

Peters, in the band of Prince Adekunle , a contemporary of
I.K. Dairo’s, before splitting off to form their own group
which they called, with no trace of irony,

Somewhere during last week I received a request for more
Kollington Ayinla or fuji in general. Do you know these guys
already ? Strange thing if you ‘google’ Micky Adisa you’ll
find nothing and if you google Fuji Londoners you get to
Sikiru Ayinde Barrister or the Royal Talazo Fuji Londoners.

Okukuseku Band of Ghana is certainly one of the most
famous of all those Ghanaian groups that went to Nigeria
to find their fortune. This is the first lp they made after
returning to Ghana. It is from 1979 and as they stated
on the backsleeve, it was made for your nice cool
enjoyment. Thank you Okukuseku..

Spring is making an early entry this year, very nice, little sunshine
temperatures around 17 degrees, nothing to complain about.
Sunny weather asks for sunny music, let’s see what happens
with Pedro Laza y sus Pelayeros. His tropical sound should
find a few happy listeners at least, get & spread..

My first encounter with Colombian parrandera music was through
Guillermo Buitrago. ( of whom soon more to follow ) After that I went
out searching for more in that style. The artist I want to introduce to
you today is one from the same school. José A. Bedoya was born
in Frontino Antioquia, biography in Spanish
Parranda music is accoustic but it really rocks,
listen to it yourself..

Goodmorning people, yesterday I received a request. It was
Caleb who reminded me Alex Konadu hadn’t passed by here
for quite some time and that last january 18th was his death
anniversary. It just so happens I have the lp he requested
and here it is. So lets all play this record and pay Alex
Konadu the honour that is due to him, sweet highlife..

We already know a small pile of records by these guys. Although
the line-up of this band changed quite a few times, this is a nice
piece of music again. It concerns a Kenyan release by the group
that originally came from the Congo off course. Zaïko Langa Langa
is the name and the album is from 1989 or 1985..
Sleeve speaks of 1985 and label of 1989, which one is it..?
