Dear music collectors, vinyl hunters and lovers of tropical
sounds, as some of you may know, I am a fanatic hunter
for all types of lp’s from the old days. As such I tend to
visit the biggest recordfairs we have around, like the one
in Utrecht twice a year. On the last few visits I have met
with the guys from Vintage Voudou. It is a tiny recordshop
in the heart of the Amsterdam redlight-district. You have
to know where to look, right between the windows where
various women offer themselves you’ll find a gate, ring a
bell and go through a small corridor to find two very small
recordshops. One of them is Vintage Voudou, the adress
is Oudekerkplein 26a, only on thursday, friday and satur-
day you’ll find them open. When I got there I met with Alex,
one of the owners, we sat down and had a huge conversation
about our favourite music. I found lots of Colombian albums
at his place, really wonderful. We listened to the music,
smoked a few pipes and spent some hours like that. Alex
then gave me the number of another friend, he told me to
check out the records of Sanjay Agarwal. Sanjay is the man,
he travells to Colombia a lot, meets with the artists and made
a documentary about Colombian music, take a look at the
trailer of his documentary called Colombian Gold.A few days ago I payed Sanjay a visit in his Amsterdam appartment
and we had a great afternoon listening to lots of Colombian music,
talking about it and some of the hottest Colombian stuff changed of
owner that day. For those who live close to Amsterdam, on saturday
may 18th Alex is going to deejay a Latin-night at Blijburg, a very hip
joint in the Zeeburg area of Amsterdam. Since his buddy Sanjay can’t
make it to join him, I offered to step in, so if you see a chance, pop by
and come have a dance and a drink. Take a look at Blijburg It will be
an evening of latin music, strictly from vinyl, it starts at 22.00 hrs. Be there !
The lp I am posting is one I found at Vintage Voudou and was imported
by Sanjay. One of my favourite groups is absolutely la Sonora Cordobesa,

Hello Groovers around the Globe, at the 6th of May we celebrate
our 5th anniversary already. Time sure flies. Unfortunately we are
not yet in the opportunity to launch the new and independent GG,
other work ( the one that keeps things running ) keeps coming in
between. Ready or not, that can’t spoil the fun. People ask me why
I don’t make Global Samplers anymore. It’s not I don’t want to but
they were made for a reason. They are meant to show you the way
around the blog and provide you with tips, but now most of our links
are dead, so where do they send you ? Nowhere yet ! Mediafire had
thrown out the last two samplers, vols. 38 & 39, let’s bring them
back to start with and as an anniversary special I made us volume
40. We are really making progress behind the scenes and
soon you’ll be able to access all the old posts again at
the new and improved page, it is a promise ! For now,
download these three Samplers and listen,
I drink to a long and healthy future
of sharing my favourite music
with you, cheers folks,

One of Africa’s greatest solists of all time was without doubt
Docteur Nico Kasanda. His work was one of great sensibility,
undeniable grandeur and unmatched beauty. It is a shame
his music was kept in the dark for whole populations of the
western world for ages. It is only since the birth of the digital
highway this unique material from Africa’s past gets spread
world wide and slowly more people start listening tot this rich
piece of cultural inheritance. Please help to reanimate almost
forgotten treasures like this. Download it and play it for your
parents, your brothers and sisters, your
children and your friends.

A Dutch newspaper published an article about African vinyl and the scarcity of it.
K.Frimpongs “Blue Album”, a very sought after lp is now available on cd and lp again
in it’s more or less original form. We’re very happy to see African music getting
some attention at all, let alone re-releasing hot material from Africa’s past.
A passion we share with those taking that initiative. Here at the GG it is a common
happening bringing back hot African vinyl. How about this 1979 piece of Nigerian
highlife by the Anambra Brothers International, led by Uncle Victor Chunkwu. On
the famous Rogers All Stars label and in rather good shape, get it & spread it !tracks;

Goodmorning, it’s been a few weeks but here we are with the
next Congolese lp. I’ve been out on a short trip to Istanbul.
If you get the chance to visit that wonderful city, take it, it’s
beautiful and offers a variety of scenes you really should see.
Something else, yesterday was International Recordstore
Day and we were lucky. The weather was really good and
I got the first chance to play in the open air with my mobile
soundsystem. At my friends recordstore ”t Oor’ here in my
hometown several groups did a short gig and I took care of
filling in the gaps. We had a lovely afternoon and the overall
feeling was one of happiness. The group you see was play-
ing all sorts of party sounds based on reggae, ska and other
feelgood styles with funny Dutch lyrics, everybody loved it.
Their name is ‘Goeiemiddag’. ( Dutch for good afternoon )
The lp I am posting today is one I coincidentally found
last week when checking out an Amsterdam second
hand store, take it while you can, get it & spread it..tracks;

Hello out there, what’s up ? Here at the GG things are
slowly finding their way and soon we’ll have everything
running without interference. In the meantime to keep up
appearances this lp by Thomas Mapfumo. It’s from 1995
and one can hear the chimurenga change into a more
modern sound. Still undeniably sweet, listen..tracks;

Hello and good morning on this Easterday. I think it’s for the first
time we are having us a white Easter. Even with Chrsitmas we
had better weather, it’s cold and snowing on this 31st of march.
Spring just doesn’t realise we’re already entering april tomorrow.Winter or spring, we play tropical music all year round so that
makes no difference. Today I’ll spoil you with some ‘Tropical de
Colombia’. From 1975 on Discos Fuentes de Medellin Colombia
we’ve got this wonderful album by Los Corraleros de Majagual.
This supergroup had relations with the most fantastic artists.
On this album alone we find Lisandro Meza, Eliseo Herrera,
Julio Erazo and Calixto Ochoa to name just a few. But they
also hosted Alfredo Gutierrez, Lucho Argain and Nacho
Paredes among many others. Great vocalists, hot
rhythmsection and horns, better don’t miss..tracks;

Hello groovers, today I received another request for an lp
by King Sunny Adé, called ‘Destiny’. I’m so sorry but I don’t
have that one. Next month we’ll have us another recordfair in
Utrecht, you never know. To comfort those in search I’ve got
this album. “Bobby” is a tribute to the late Olabinjo (Bobby)
Benson, see picture. No idea who he was but the music
is marvelous, that’s for sure. Enjoy it while we keep on
lookin’ for more, get it, spread it & enjoy..p.s. on Wikipedia I discovered
Bobby Benson was a Nigerian
highlife composer and musician.tracks;

Good morning, welcome at the Global Groove. Spring has
officially started this week but nature doesn’t seem to realize
yet. It’s cold in the Netherlands, still freezing at night and folks
are slowly getting tired of it. Let’s try and concentrate on a better
climate to arrive real soon. To help us get through, this lp will
surely add to that warmer feeling. ‘Les Bantous’ made quite
some wonderful albums and this is no exception. From 1975
on Pathé Marconi we’ve got us ‘Les Grands Succes Africains’
volume 3, a real sweet treat that will make temperatures
rise without any doubt, get it & spread it..tracks;

About the fifteenth album by these guys at the GG. In a little
while they’ll all be having working links again, but for now..
A bit dusty but nevertheless one more Oriental Brothers lp
which we can’t get enough to my humble opinion. Listen
to this 1984 ‘Ndi Ji Ego’ and get the taste already,
