De winter is gisteren officieel begonnen in Nederland. Tegelijk
wil dat zeggen dat de kortste dag er weer op zit en we langzaam
weer de goede kant op gaan. De grootste koude staat nog wel
voor de deur dus is het zaak de warmte in de muziek te zoeken.
Met Celi Bitshu komen we er wel door, met zijn onvermoeibare
Machine a Tubes zal het zeker lukken, verwarm je er maar snel aan.

Yesterday, winter officially begon in the Netherlands. The same
moment we passed the shortest day and slowly go in the right
direction again. The hardest cold however is still ahead of us
so it’s inevitable and necessary to seek our warmth in music.

Één van m’n vaste contacten als het gaat om zeldzame Afrikaanse
platen ontmoet ik twee maal per jaar op de Utrechtse beurs. Hij is
niet lang geleden teruggekomen uit Congo met prachtige verhalen
en dito muziek. Ik was zo gelukkig deze zeldzame elpee van hem te
kunnen overnemen. Op Google kon ik hem niet in deze uitvoering
vinden. Johnny Bokelo Isenge’s Sandokan is wel te vinden maar op
platen in andere samenstelling. Luister en huiver..

One of my steady contacts if we speak of rare African records is
this French guy whose name I can’t reveal. We meet twice a year
at the Utrecht fair. He just got back from a voyage to Congo and
brought back some amazing stories and music. I was very lucky
he sold me this rare album by Johnny Bokelo Isenge. On Google
I managed to find Sandokan in a different compilation but not as
the one we have here. Great stuff, listen and agree..

Oldies but goodies, like this one,
usually have a little background noise.

De hoes is flink toegetakeld, randschade en er is op gekalkt
door een van de vorige eigenaren.Toch ben ik blij deze plaat
te hebben gevonden. Het is een tamelijk schaars opduikend
album op het Ghanese Essiebons label. Het stond op Google
ergens vermeld als solo project. Er moet ook nog een volume
2 zijn. Het openingsnummer hebben we al eerder gehoord op een
ander album maar ook in een andere versie. Het is onduidelijk
wie de andere artiesten op deze plaat zijn, als jij het weet
mag je het zeggen.. Grappig, de enige afbeelding die ik vond
was van mijn onlangs gevonden exemplaar check,

Its sleeve has quite some damage on the edges and one of the
former owners has written on it. Still I’m very happy to have
found this album. On Google it was listed somewhere as a solo
project. Their must also be a volume 2. The lp appears on the
Ghanaian Essiebons label and seems to be quite rare. We have
heard the opening song on another album but also in another
version if I’m correct. It is not entirely clear who are the
other performing artists, if you know, please tell us okay..

Herrinner je je die andere elpee van Samba Mascott, wat een
juweeltje was dat. Vond jij dat ook ? Luister dan zeker ook naar
deze. Helaas heeft hij wel wat achtergrond geluiden maar dit is
een zeldzaam plaatje dat je niet snel in betere kwaliteit zult
vinden. Met M’Passy Jo, Tino Muinka, Kabako L. en Ngavouka Ringo
die de koortjes doen. Jean Serge Essous op de alt- en tenorsax.

Do you remember that other album of Samba Mascott ? What
a beauty that was, or is. Do you agree ? Be sure to listen to this
one as well. Unfortunately it has a little background noise but this
is a rare record which you wont find in a better state easily. With

Uit 1986 hebben we deze schijf vinyl met Josky Kiambukuta,
zijn neef Serge en Ntesa Dalienst. De eerste en derde onder
andere bekend als componisten van Franco maar ook solo
heben zij veel werk verzet. Josky’s heerlijke stem springt
er ook hier weer uit en zalft onze trommelvliezen als
altijd. Haal snel binnen en luister met plezier..

From 1986 we’ve got us this slice of vinyl with Josky Kiambukuta,
his cousin Serge and Ntesa Dalienst. The first and last we know
of course as composers of Franco but also solo they’ve made
quite some amazing records. Josky’s delightful voice is a treat
like always but don’t underestimate the others as well.
Get it and spread it as usual and enjoy listening..

Twee bands verenigd op één elpee vandaag. Uit de studio’s van
Verckys in Kinshasa hebben we hier de Langa Langa Stars en de Choc
Stars die beiden deel vormden van de clan Langa Langa. Er zit en complex
stuk historie achter deze groepen. Ga het net op om deze te achterhalen
want ik doe niet eens een poging. Fantastische semi soukous uit 1983. Ik
ben gek op de ‘Voix Cassé’, de gebroken stem van Dindo Yogo in track 1&2
maar de hele plaat is heerlijk, luister zelf en kijk wat jij ervan vindt..

Two bands united on one album today. From the studios of Verckys
in Kinshasa we have the Langa Langa Stars and the Choc Stars who
were both part of the clan Langa Langa. The history behind these
groups is a complex story which I’m not even going to try tell you.
Go online and dig it up yourself. Fantastic semi soukous from 1983.

In maart 2011 hadden we een elpee van de grote Franco met
Nana en Baniel. Vandaag zijn de twee dames terug met een
plaat zonder Franco. In zijn plaats op de gitaar vinden we Dizzy
Mandjeku wie we kennen van onder andere de African All Stars.
Een geheel ander project dus uit 1991. Luister zelf maar..

In march 2011 we had an album by the great Franco with Nana
and Baniel. Today we find the two ladies again on an lp without
Franco. On this one there’s Dizzy Mandjeku taking Franco’s place
on guitar and doing the production. It is dedicated to Luambo
Makiadi Franco and from 1991, listen to it yourself..

Dat is alweer een tijdje geleden, Tchico’s platen worden altijd zeer
gewaardeerd en deze zal daarop geen uitzondering vormen. Uit
1982 en op het Bellot Records label hebben we Feu Rouge. We
hadden al diverse releases uit Nigeria en nu dus uit Cote d’Ivoire.
Naast Tchico’s fijne stem horen we sprankelende gitaren,
dikke blaaspartijen en subtiel slagwerk, mis hem niet..

That has been some time ago, Tchico’s records are always very
much appreciated and this one shall not form an exception.
From 1982 and on Bellot Records we’ve got Feu Rouge. We
already had some Nigerian releases and now from Cote
d’Ivoire. Next to Tchico’s fine voice we hear sparkling
guitars, fatback horns and subtle rhythms, don’t miss..

Meestal is Pépé Kallé de frontzanger bij Empire Bakuba
maar op deze plaat neemt Papy Tex het voortouw. Met zijn
mooie gladde stem een flink contrast met Pépé Kallé die
natuurlijk ook passeert. Lekkere dikke sebene in nummer
twee. Kortom, een schijf vinyl die je niet wilt missen.
Soukous van de bovenste plank, dansvloer
killer, pak hem snel..

Mostly Pépé Kallé is Empire Bakuba’s frontman but on
this record it is Papy Tex who takes the lead. With his
smooth voice quite a contrast with Pépé Kallé who
passes by as well of course. Nice fat sebene in
track # two, in short, an album you would not
want to miss. Soukous of premier classe,
dancefloor killer, get it and spread it..
