Goodmorning, it is time for some cumbia, I suddenly realised the
style was being neglected somewhat. When posting Colombian,
lately I tend to turn to vallenato a bit more. No worries though,
we’ve got some of that stuff waiting to find it’s way to you.
Take this here album, a collector which contains some
of the hottest cumbias ever made, give it a spin..tracks;

02 – Los Corraleros – Canta majagualera
03 – Carlos Martelo y su Orquesta – No me desesperes
04 – Climaco Sarmiento – Conchita
05 – Cumbia en do menor
06 – Pedro Laza y sus Pelayeros
07 – Los Corraleros – Ritmo de colombia
08 – Orquesta de G.Gonzalez – Lupita
09 – Los Corraleros – La cumbia soba
10 – La Sonora Cordobesa – La negra caliente

Goodmorning groovers, what have we got cooking for you today ?
Michi Sarmiento and his Combo Bravo are here to make you
dance around the room. On this album they combine various
styles. Guaguancó, Paseo, Son Mozambique, Cumbia, Bomba,
Cumbelé, Descarga and Paseaíto are brought easily by this
great band. I am crazy about the song ‘Hong Kong’, but the
whole lp is a joy to listen to. A little scratchy but
not too much. Get it and spread it as usual.Tracks;
1 Arepa de arroz
2 Corazon herido
3 Navidad con michi
4 Cumbia raja
5 Mi bomba
6 Cum cumbele
7 Hay que aprender
8 Hong kong

Good morning groovers, what have we got cooking today ?
This lp by Morgan Blanco is a Mexican release. When
listening closely, you hear the fade-outs are done a little
sloppy, it seems OCM label raked together a bunch of
Morgan Blanco’s cumbias on this lp. It does not appear
to be a career album. The cumbias presented however
are of Colombian quality, renditions of songs written by
Ovidio Martinez, Rosendo Martinez, Rafael Mejia,
Nicolás Ortiz, Carlos Román and Morgan
Blanco himself. Worth at least
a couple of spins..
Enjoy.tracks;
1 Noche de cumbiamba
2 Ramita de matimba
3 El polleron
4 Cumbia nativa
5 Rosa maria
6 Cumbia en el sol
7 Cumbia de america
8 Cumbia sobre el mar
9 Sabor de cumbia
10 Cumbia negra

butts around the floor..tracks;

Not long ago we had an lp by Alfredo Gutierrez on which
Lucho Argain ( Lucho Perez ) was performing. Another group
that Lucho used to sing and compose for is this one. La Sonora
del Caribe was founded in 1951 by Chavistad Cesar Pompeyo.
They had a string of records through the sixties and seventies,
the one we have here is probably from 1962 and contains 12
songs of which the brothers Cesar and Alfredo Pompeyo
said; “We never sounded like this before, the songs on
this lp can set any of our fans on fire on any moment
of the day..” Well, let’s see what happens,
get it & spread it as usual..tracks;
1 Noche de estrellas
2 Gaita colombiana
3 El gallo canaguey
4 Gregorio el bembon
5 La loteria
6 Barranquillerita
7 El pajaro picon

Lucho Campillo is the man behind this group called
Combo Los Marinos. Singers are Juan de la Cruz Piña,
Diochy, Jairo Mercado, Policarpo Calle and off course
Lucho Campillo himself. If any one can tell us from
what year this album comes, please do. I think Lucho’s
songs have something different somehow, they sound
fresh, original and delicious. Forget about the girl on
the sleeve and focus on the music, let’s listen
and maybe do a little dancing too..tracks;
1 Bella del monte
2 Ramita de cafe
3 Carretilla
4 Morrosquillera
5 Que mala fama
6 Bollo dulce colao

What can I say ? You know I’m a lover of this type of
music. I could keep annoying you with superlatives
concerning this album but I really think it’s best if you
listen first and make up your own mind about it. Can
you tell us who you see on the frontsleeve ? I am sure
about two or three myself, how many do you know ?
By the way, this is an original old yellow Fuentes
label on a very thick and heavy slice of vinyl, wow..tracks;

There was a time I would never have believed an album with
such a cheap sleeve, naked girl and all, could be a good one.
Nowadays I know better. Au contraire, after collecting this
type of music some years I started loving them. The record
we have here is just what we like to find, thick carton sleeve,
heavy vinyl inside and luckily in good shape. It is from 1976
and contains a load of brilliant tracks, these cumbias are
sweet without exeption, just the way we love them, well
produced and compiled with passion. Get & Spread..tracks;

Today’s contribution is a real rarity, Alfredo Gutierrez’ Estrellas
appear among others with Lucho Perez on this slice of vinyl.
Lucho Perez, sometimes also ‘Lucho Argain’, is famous for his
work with la Sonora Dinamita, Los Corraleros de Majagual,
la Sonora Barulera and others. His voice is one every Colombian
recognizes and belongs to the most adored. I have added a few
bonustracks with Lucho for you to remember his great work.
He is to be heard on tracks; 1,4,5,7 and 11 of the album and
bonus, 13, 14, 15 and 16.
Other guest singers here are Edilberto Benitez, Carmelo Barraza
and Danuil y Carmelo. Alfredo himself is not to be forgotten as
well of course, we had a bunch of his records, best use
our search-bar to find them, enjoy..tracks;

Los Corraleros de Majagual is a group in which many
talents passed by over the years. Guys like Lisandro
Meza, Calixto Ochoa, Alfredo Gutierrez and even Fruko.
They had a string of hits and released quite a bunch of
swell records. We had this one, and they appear
on almost all my Colombian compilations. Just check
the search option on the left. This 1976 album contains
10 songs that we haven’t heard yet, part from the pieces
on the mosaico perhaps. If you like the lp, I have a pile
of their albums waiting to find their way to you, just yell.
