Ja groovers, de Kumapim Royals zijn weer eens terug met een
plaatje uit 1979. Eens goed denken, ik was 21 en wist nog geen
snars van Ghanese highlife. Maar goed dat er een moment kwam
dat ik er kennis mee maakte. Nu terugkijkend heel wat bijgeleerd.
Ondertussen bijna zestig en ik leer nog steeds met regelmaat iets
bij. Een mensenleven is te kort om van elke stroming iets mee te
krijgen maar we doen wat we kunnen met veel plezier.
Oh ehh, label en hoes zijn het oneens over de volgorde
van de nummers, ik heb het label gevolgd..

Yes groovers, good evening. The Kumapim Royals are here once
more with this record from 1979. Let me think, I was 21 years old
and knew nothing about Ghanaian highlife yet. So grateful for the
moment I got to learn more. In the meanwhile I’m almost sixty
and still learning every day. A human life is too short to get to
know every musical style or wave but we do what we can
with lots of pleasure. Oh eh by the way, label and sleeve
do not agree about track order, I followed the label..

Accidentally I saw on Discogs that people were searching for a
decent vinylrip of this album. I don’t have an account there and
do not want to make one but I can still make the rip and help out.
Maybe one of you can inform them. I can’t tell you anything useful
about C.K Opong and his Marble Rollers of Ghana. Listening to it
is what I can offer you so enjoy doing so..

Toevallig zag ik op Discogs dat er van de week werd gezocht naar
een goede vinylrip van deze plaat. Zelf heb ik daar geen account
en wil die ook niet maar dat neemt niet weg dat ik de liefhebber
een dienst bewijs door hem vandaag te plaatsen. Ik kan je er niets
zinnigs over vertellen, zelf uitzoeken zou ik zeggen. Luisteren
kunnen we er wel naar dus veel plezier daarbij..

On elpee I never found very spectacular work by Pat Thomas
so far. The cd ‘Most Historical Album’ I already have long time,
online I found year of release 2000 but it feels I have it much
longer than that. As label we find Sisco on the back but no
number or year what so ever. It goes for huge prices online
but today it is free of charge. I always listened to it with
lots of pleasure and now it is your turn loyal visitors
of the Global Groove, enjoy doing so..

If I’m not mistaking, this must be the twelfth album we have by
the great Alex Konadu. Our collection is slowly growing to become
a huge reference book. Side one is bound together as if it was one
big song, side two however counts five separate songs. This record
was released in Nigeria in 1977 and is wonderful as the title
already predicts.. just a bit noisy unfortunately..

Een van de lekkerste C.K. Mann platen die ik ooit gehoord
heb is deze. Niet al te funky maar vooral de highlife sound
die ik persoonlijk prefereer horen we op deze 1979 plaat.
Het is enigszins onderhevig aan invloeden uit de jazz en
soul hoek maar net niet te veel naar mijn bescheiden
mening. Luister zelf en zie wat jij ervan vindt.

One of the nicest C.K. Mann records I ever heard is this one.
Not all too funky but mostly breathing the highlife sound I
Personally prefer on this 1979 album. Somewhat subject
of influences from jazz and soul but not too much to my
humble opinion. Listen and make up your own mind.

De laatste Alex Konadu die we hadden kwam door in mei van dit jaar.
Hoog tijd voor een vervolg. Dit is Awoo Ne Awo uit 1977, alweer een
juweeltje van zijn hand en een van de oudere albums die we van hem
hebben. Ik ken op z’n minst één blije bezoeker bij een post als deze
maar er zijn er ongetwijfeld nog een paar. Pak hem en luister..

The last album we had by Alex Konadu came through in may this year.
About time for a follow up. This is Awoo Ne Awo from 1977, another
jewell from his hand and one of the older records we have by him.
I know at least one happy downloader today but am sure some
others will also appreciate. Get it and spread it quickly..

Het was weer eens tijd voor wat Ghanese highlife. We hadden
ooit een van zijn platen met de Sweet Talks. A.B. Crentsil is terug
vandaag met een veel latere productie. Eerlijk gezegd vind ik niet
al zijn werk even interessant maar dit in Londen opgenomen album
klinkt goed. Vanzelfsprekend geen idee over de inhoud maar
de sound is gewoon lekker. Geef hem een kans en luister..

It was time for some Ghanaian highlife. We had one of his records
with the Sweet Talks once. A.B. Crentsil is back today with a much
later production. To be honest I don’t think all his work is equally
interesting but this album which was recorded in London sounds
nice. As usual I’ve got no idea about the message brought
but it just sounds good. Give it a chance and listen..

Aan de rij platen die de African Brothers hebben gemaakt lijkt
nooit een einde te komen. Hier is er nog zo een. Het jaar van
uitgave is niet geheel duidelijk, het betreft een Engelse
productie, opgenomen in Accra’s Elephant Walk Studio.

We kennen hem als leadzanger op de platen van de Kyeremateng Stars.
Vandaag een elpee met zijn eigen band, the Great Africans. Hij wordt
bijgestaan door gitarist Eric Agyemang en Atakora Manu op deze
prettige plaat. Ik ben geen specialist maar weet wel, dit is lekker..

We know him being the leadsinger on albums of the Kyeremateng Stars.
Today an lp with his own group the Great Africans. He is supported by
one of my favourite guitarists, Eric Agyemang and assisted by Atakora
manu both of who you can find some records on this blog as well.
I’m no specialist on the matter but do know, this is delightful stuff..
