From 1977 we find another album with Sir Waziri Oshomah.
When I took the sleeve to photograph it sometning fell
out on the floor. What a surprise, it was the original
invoice from the 1978 purchase. It was once bought
in A.B & Bros. Electronic Store, 34 Polytechnic Road in Auchi.
The cost of an album like this was 6 Naira. Nowadays 1000
Naira is worth € 2,-. Also purchased was 1 Etsakor vol. 2
and 1 Asi Balewa, I’ll post one of his records tomorrow.
Really funny extra with this record. It makes
listening to it even more special ..Uit 1977 komt het album met Sir Waziri Oshomah dat we vandaag
hebben. Toen ik de hoes op z’n kant hield viel er iets uit.
Wat schetste m’n verbazing, het was de originele aankoopnota
uit 1978. De plaat is ooit aangekocht bij A.B. & Bros.
Electronic Store, 34 Polytechnic Road in Auchi voor de
prijs van 6 Naira. Ter vergelijk, vandaag de dag is 1000 Naira

This record from 1977 opens with a song that has more or less
the same title as yesterday’s opener. “Did you know that ‘Isah
Sule’, popularly and musically known as Sir Waziri Oshomah,
was born on the 12th february, 1948 in Osomegbe, Ekperi,
Auchi, Bendel State. He obtained his primary education at
Osomegbe primary school, after which he attended St. Andrew’s
secondary school, Fugar. He worked in both government and
private sectors before he resigned to form his traditional highlife
band in 1973 and this has given him the opportunity of preaching
to his people through his recordings…” (liner notes)01 – Hon. lawrence idonigie,

Back at the Global Groove today is the great Sir Waziri Oshomah
& his Family Traditional Sound Makers. Waziri was one of the ori-
ginators of afenmai Etsakor highlife. He made a list of records of
which it is high time to bring some more. The sound quality could
be a whole lot better, but it is hard to find these albums in good
condition. This elpee is listed number five on Discogs, not
sure if it really is his fifth. From 1976 on Decca, enjoy ..Vandaag terug op de Global Groove is Sir Waziri Oshomah & his
Family Traditional Sound Makers.

On Brobisco House of Music we find this album with Asiakwa
Brass Band. In january 2012 we already had one of their albums,
it was received with big enthusiasm back then. Brass Band highlife
from Ghana is the type of music that makes you instantly
happy. On this record the group pays tribute to Alex
Konadu with the ‘Agyata Wuo’ and ‘Nsuo Amuna’
medley’s. Rare Ghanaian stuff ..Op Brobisco House of Music vinden we deze plaat met Asiakwa
Brass Band.

Awieama Little John wrote the songs. He was also the lead
singer on this album. Background vocals were taken care of
by Jewel Ackah and Safohene Djeni. What a splendid highlife

lead vocalist op deze plaat. Achtergond vocalen door Jewel

This week I was blown away, listening to this wonderful record again
with Moses Adeolu Akinsanya. I first heard it when I downloaded it
at Afro Soul Descarga in 2012. I took the liberty to freshen up the
files by tagging all the songs and add the correct titles and such.
Posting it now is a tribute to Afrosouldescarga. Go there to
find more great records. Meantime listen to Baba Eto ..01 – Iyawo eko
