We had two great albums with the Ashanti Brothers so far.
I remember wanting to post this album when Jillem beat
me to it. Hey, that’s how blogging goes. Out of respect for
HTD I didn’t post it then. Over time we did share quite some
albums nevertheless. Below Jillem’s liner notes in the file.

Op het moment dat ik deze plaat wilde posten was Jillem me
net voor. Tja dat gebeurt met bloggen. Door de jaren hebben

Hello music blogworld,
Today is a sad day for all who used to visit
the great music blog of our dear colleague Jillem.
Zippyshare is closing down after today and all of
Jillem’s hard work from over the years will be lost.
Sadly we can’t leave any comments at Holland Tunnel Dive
for I am sure his mailbox would explode with Thank You’s.

Isaac Carillo

Side one is just with Nicolás ‘Colacho’ Mendoza and his
Conjunto Vallenato on this album with Isaac Carillo. We
found Isaac Carillo in July 2019 on the album with Los
Playoneros del Cesar from 1969. He was one of the
members of the early formation. Isaac appears here on
the b-side of this record, he also performs with Colacho
Mendoza and his Conjunto Vallenato. Vallenato from
around 1970 I assume, no year of release was found.

Voor de liefhebbers van vallenato hebben we vandaag deze
plaat met twee groten uit het veld. Kant één is alleen met Nicolás
‘Colacho’ Mendoza en zijn Conjunto Vallenato. Op kant twee
vinden we Isaac Carillo die ook met Colacho en zijn band optreedt.
We vonden Isaac Carillo al op een plaat met Los Playoneros del
Cesar in juli 2019. Hij was een van de oude bandleden van die
groep. Dit is vallenato van rond 1970 veronderstel ik,
een jaar van uitgifte is niet bekend. Luister zelf ..

in this article we honour Ballou
Canta, but especially Congo’s late & great rhythm guitarist
Lokassa Ya Mbongo ! Last wednesday Lokassa died age 80.
He was the frontman of ‘Soukous Stars’. Lokassa’s career
spans some 50 years. He played with Tabu Ley Rochereau’s
Afrisa from 1970 to 1978 alongside singers Pepe Ndombe,
Sam Mangwana and Michelino Mavatiku Visi. Later Lokassa
was part of the great Afican All Stars with Dizzy Mandjekou
and Sam Mangwana. Also starring Ringo Moya, Syran, Bopol,
Pablo Lubadika, Theo Blaise Kounkou and others. This album
is with Ballou Canta, one of the other founders of ‘Soukous
Stars’. It came out in 1990, just after the start of Soukous
Stars. Also starring here is Dally Kimoko.

Good morning, for those who think, where the heck did
Moos go, I just got back from a three week trip to Thailand.
After a period of hard work it was time to take a break, also
adding a pause in winter. We travelled around and really
enjoyed it. Found an abandoned temple in the North,
Chiang Rai region, such a nice country with sweet people,
great food and warm weather .. greetings
to Noa at Koh Phangan ..

What’s cooking here today ? Let’s listen to another piece
of juju music with Admiral Dele Abiodun from 1988. The
Adawa Super King is rocking like never before. Great
uptempo sound from his Busy Body ..

Goeiemorgen, als je dacht, waar is Moos gebleven, ik was
voor drie weken naar Thailand. Na een tijd van veel werk
was het tijd voor een goede onderbreking, ook om een
pauze in the lassen in de Nederlandse winter. We hebben
er met veel plezier een beetje rond rereisd. In het Noorden,
omgeving van Chiang Rai vonden we deze verlaten tempel.
Heerlijk land met lieve mensen, lekker eten en warm weer ..

Wat hebben we hier vandaag ? Laten we nog eens naar een
stukje fijne juju luisteren met Admiral Dele Abiodun uit 1988.
De Adawa Super King gaat lekker los op deze plaat. Lekker
vlotte sound van de admiraal en zijn Busy Body ..

Always a pleasure listening to story teller Mike Ejeagha.
His Igbo highlife is very relaxed, in a style compared to
that of Chief Stephen Osita Osadebe, Ali Chukwumah
or Celestine Ukwu, to name a few. The latter started his
career under the guidance of Mike Ejeagha. We can’t
have enough of his fine records, listen ..

Igbo highlife van Mike Ejeagha is zeer ontspannen, in
een stijl te vergelijken met die van Chief Stephen Osita

It is from 1988 and the only album listed at Discogs. World
Lucky treats us with this quite funky sounding highlife. The
bass pretty much at the foreground, rhythms that babble on
and Lucky chanting with his background singers. A record
worth a couple of spins on a quiet evening ..

Hij komt uit 1988 en is de enige plaat die ze op Discogs
hebben. World Lucky bedient ons met deze redelijk funky
klinkende highlife. De basgitaar zeer op de voorgrond,
voortkabbelende ritmes en Lucky die met zijn achtergrond
zangers rustig reciteert. Een plaat die je best een paar
maal luistert op een rustige avond ..

I received a request from LFRR to post an album with
Haruna Ishola and his Apala Group, it is self titled like
most of his records, on Star Records SRPS 21. Unfor-
tunalely I do not have that one. Instead I give you this
first volume of ‘In The 60’s’. This one comes from 1981
and appears on Afrodisia. I think it’s a good alternative
for as long as the requested elpee is not available.

te posten welke zich helaas niet in de verzameling bevindt.
Zelf getiteld zoals de meesten, SRPS 21. Daarvoor in de
plaats krijg je nu volume 1 van ‘In The 60’s’. Ik denk een
aardig alternatief zolang de andere niet beschikbaar is.
Deze is uit 1981 en komt uit op Afrodisia.

This record with Dr. Chief Orlando Owoh and his African
Kenneries from 1989 has his own label, Owoh Records. Back
sleeve also speaks of Afrodisia and Jolaosho Records as recording
and distribution facilities. Orlando Owoh’s sound hangs
in between Highlife and Juju. Talking drums telling the
story, Orlando and his Kenneries chanting lyrics,
wonderful sound all together.
