Sixteen times we hear songs about suffering on this record which
was part of the late eighties Producers Series brought by Trojan.

if you turn on your TV and something passes by about Kenya,
it is mostly nature or culture related. Animals Play the most
important role in general. lions, giraffes, elephants, hyenas,
wildebeests, antilopes and such, at its most we see the Masai
people passing by. Concerning the wonderful music the country
produced we never hear a word. Reason enough to give it some
more attention. No huge stories here but mainly the music
itself. Let your ears tell you the story, for example Daniel Owino
Misiani’s and his DO-7 Shirati Jazz Band’s. The tracks are all
melted together and I didn’t have the courage to separate them.
You’ll have to listen to them as two long tracks,
side 1 and side 2.

Als je de TV aanzet en er is iets over Kenya is het meestal
een natuur of cultuur aangelegenheid die langskomt. Dieren
spelen daarin over het algemeen de hoofdrol. Leeuwen,
giraffen, olifanten, hyena’s, Gnoe’s, Antilopen en dergelijke,
hooguit zien we eens iets over de Masai passeren. Over de
prachtige muziek die het land heeft voortgebracht horen we
maar bitter weinig. Reden te meer om hier wat aandacht aan
te besteden. Geen diepgravende beschouwingen maar de
muziek zelf. Laat je oren je het verhaal vertellen. Bijvoorbeeld
dat van Daniel Owino Misiani en de DO-7 Shirati Jazz Band.
De nummers zitten zo strak op elkaar gemonteerd dat ik het
niet aandurfte ze te scheiden. Je zult de plaat in twee lange
aaneengesloten delen moeten beluisteren. Kant 1 en kant 2.

Sometimes the front sleeve of an album is beautiful and when
you listen to it, it disappoints. Today we have the opposite.
Quite a dull sleeve but once the music starts to play, there’s
no turning back. The album contains some of the songs that
were on the CD Pirates Choice, my first encounter with
Orchestre Baobab, the cd version was recorded in 1982,
this lp is from 1983. Recordings sound slightly different
but may be the same ones. Wonderful atmospheric music..

De ene keer is de hoes van een plaat geweldig en dan denk je
als je’m draait, jammer. Vandaag is de hoes tamelijk saai maar
als de muziek begint ben je direkt verkocht. De elpee bevat
een aantal van de nummers die op de CD Pirates Choice staan,
mijn eerste kennismaking met Orchestre Baobab. De cd versie
werd opgenomen in 1982, deze plaat is uit 1983. De opnames
klinken nèt even anders maar zijn misschien dezelfde.
Prachtige sfeervolle sound..

Het jaar 2018 heeft van begin af aan een zweem van creatieve
inspiratie over zich. Door het zien van films van Roald Dahl en
gisteren ‘Finding Neverland’ borrelt er iets in de achtergrond.
Toen ik vanmorgen vervolgens weer eens een bericht aantrof
van Gerrit’s Lola Radio en verdwaalde in zijn ongeregelde
verzameling geluid kreeg ik helemaal de kriebels in hoofd, lijf
en leden. In dit jaar van de hond gaan er nog mooie dingen
gebeuren, zoveel is zeker. Keep on dreaming, of het nu dag
is of nacht. Schilder met verf, papier en muziek. Boetseer,
fantaseer, krepeer in nostalgie en droom weg op zigeuner-
klanken. Kijk naar ‘Black Cat, White Cat’ en laat de kleuren
los. Ga terug in de tijd en laat Owl Qaeda en Holy Warbles
je meenemen naar de waving meadows van de denkbeeldige
eeuwige jachtvelden. Ik meander nu helemaal weg..
..mooie naam hè, Donald Mohammed, ( wat jij Trump.. )
en wat een toffe track, net als
Kishore Maharadj..

The year 2018 has a touch of creative inspiration over itself
so far. Seeing movies of Roald Dahl stories and ‘Finding Never-
land’ made stuff bubble in the background. When I woke up
this morning and found another post on Gerrit’s Lola Radio,
and got lost in his odd and irregular collection of sounds
my head started spinning and my body trembling. This
year of the dog will surely bring us some wonderful
experiences, that much is clear. Keep on dreaming
whether it is day or night. Paint with oil, paper or
music. Model, fantasize, crawl in nostalgia en dream
away on gypsie fidel. Watch ‘Black Cat, White Cat’ and
free your colours. Go back in time and let Owl Qaeda
and Holy Warbles take you to the waving meadows
of imaginary eternal hunting grounds, oh my, I’m
spacing away now..what great name, Donald Mohammed,
( don’t you think Trump..hihi ..)

Ik verkeerde in de veronderstelling dat ik deze plaat al eens
gepost had maar dat blijkt op een blog te zijn geweest welk
ik niet meer gebruik. Ramdog’s Roughsite was de naam en
toen de diverse webhosters mijn files hadden weggegooid,
heb ik de site leeg achtergelaten. je kunt er nog wel heen maar
er staat niets meer op. Hoog tijd dus om deze prachtplaat op
de GG te plaatsen. Jackie Lomax’ ‘Home is in my Head’ uit 1971.
Luister en besef, dit is prachtig..

I was certain I posted this album in the past. It’s true, I did but
on a blog I do not use anymore. It was on Ramdog’s Roughsite
which I left empty when webhosters threw away my files. You
can still go there but there’s nothing left to download. About
time I posted this wonderful record here at the GG. Listen to
Jackie Lomax’ ‘Home is in my Head ‘ from 1971 and come to
realise, this is beautiful music..

Hey vallenato liefhebbers, ik ben jullie echt niet vergeten hoor !
Het is wel al drie maanden geleden dat ik aan je gedacht heb,
ogenschijnlijk dan hè. Om het goed te maken dat het zo lang
geduurd heeft, vandaag een extra mooie plaat van Pachito Rada.
Het blijft heerlijk spul.

Lieve bezoekers van de Global Groove, op deze laatste dag van het
jaar wil ik jullie hier vanuit ons nederige Nederland bedanken voor 2017
en de toffe feedback, en tevens het allerbeste wensen voor 2018, het
jaar waarin we straks alweer tien jaar bestaan. Blijf ons opzoeken
want er belooft nog veel moois te gebeuren.

Hey lovers of vallenato, I truly didn’t forget about you folks !
It has been three months though I thought about you, apparently
that is. To make up for the hiatus, today an extra nice album by the
great Pachito Rada. Hail sweet vallenato for ever.

Dear visitors of the Global Groove, on this last day of the year I’d
like to say, thank you all for a great 2017 and all the nice feedback,
best wishes for 2018, the year in which we will celebrate our tenth
anniversary. Stay tuned cuz some surprise events are scheduled
for the future. Happy New Year everbody !

Quite special is this find with Morogoro Jazz from Tanzania. I’ve
been searching online to find out if Mbaraka Mwinshehe was
part of the crew. I suspect he was but found no confirmation.
If you know, please let us know too. The album is from 1971
and unfortunately the frontsleeve of my copy is somewhat
damaged so I took it from the web, you’ll find the backsleeve
of my copy in the file. Just a little background noise but
still very enjoyable, get it and spread it. The guy
in the front looks like M.M. don’t you think?

Ik was zeer verguld deze plaat te vinden op de laatste beurs.
Op het web gezocht of de grote Mbaraka Mwinshehe deel van
de bezetting uitmaakte maar daarvan geen bevestiging gevonden.
Één site noemde zijn naam maar was in een Afrikaanse taal die ik
niet spreek. Als jij het weet laat het ons dan s.v.p. ook weten. Mijn
hoes heeft een beschadigde voorkant dus ik heb voor jullie eentje
van het web gehaald, je vindt wel mijn achterkant in de file. Klein
beetje gekraak krijg je erbij. Geef je’m weer door ? Plezier. De
man vooraan lijkt wel op M.M. vindt je ook niet?

Het begon ooit toen ik de film ‘Cidade de Deus’ voor het eerst zag.
Op het moment dat ik ‘Preciso me encontrar’ hoorde was ik op slag
verkocht, je vindt het op ‘Cartola – Cartola’ welke ik reeds plaatste op
23 augustus 2008. Dit is een van zijn albums van een jaar later, 1977.
Het origineel heb ik helaas niet maar wel deze cd release uit 2001.
Geen andere sambista is vergelijkbaar met Cartola, heerlijke
Braziliaanse blues, zoals ik het placht te noemen..luister..

It all began when I first saw the movie “Cidade de Deus’. The moment
‘Preciso me encontrar’ started to play, I was completely captured by
its wonderful sound. You can find it on ‘Cartola – Cartola’ which I already
posted on august 23rd, 2008. This is an album from one year later, 1977.
Unfortunately I do not own the original so we have to settle with this
cd release from 2001. No other sambista is comparable with Cartola.
I tend to call this Brazillian blues, just listen..
