- Saturday June 7, 20146 comments on 22 Tracks about Football – Various Artists
Speaking of football, or soccer, whatever you prefer, I decided
to make a collector about it. It begins with a track from a cd
full of 78’s collected by John Peel’s wife. Nice old song, in the
middle we have two African songs, one Colombian and another
oldie with the Marx Brothers. On no.13 we have a track sung by
no one less than Pelé, with Sergio Mendes and on 20 a quite bad
Dutch caranaval song by our own Johan Cruyff, you wont believe
your ears. Most songs are Brazillian and about the famous Rio-club
Flamengo or Pelé, get it & spread it…tracks;

Some visitors asked for more benga. It just so happens I had
one waiting for y’all. Funny thing about benga, I mentioned before,
it seems all titles are person’s names. It’s the only type of music
in which we see this I rekon, That is as far as I know.
the D.O. stands for Daniel Owino Misiani, “the Grandfather of Benga”.
He was the founder of the most famous benga group called Shirati
Jazz. Born in Shirati, just south of the Kenyan border, he has been
playing benga since the mid-1960’s. His style is characterised by
soft, flowing and melodic two-part vocal harmonies, a very active,
pulsating bass line that derives at least in part from traditional nyatiti
and drum rhythms, and stacks of invigorating guitar work, the lead
alternating with the vocal. ( the Rough Guide )
Daniel Owino Misiani died in a road traffic accident in 2006, aged 66.
He was still an active performer at the time of his death and left two
wives and 14 children.http://biochem.chem.nagoya-u.ac.jp/~endo/EAMisiani.html

Good morning groovers around the globe, today you are
one of the luckiest downloaders imaginable. This lp is not
only one of his very best, it is from 1981 but in mint condition.
Kofi Samy and his Okukuseku International Band of Ghana
is here to make you dance and dance, it is sheer impossible
to remain seated while listening to the groovy beats and
sounds they produced on this album. Quite some Ghanaian

Hello groovers, I received a bunch of comments of folks
who want to download Colombian albums I posted in the
past. Most of their links are dead and I’m not re-uploading
them. Untill the new page is ready to roll you’ll have to settle
with the stuff posted today. I can only soften the blow this

…Duke Reid then became the new champion of Beat Street:
He was crowned ‘King of Sound and Blues’ for the years 1956-58
at the Succes Club in Kingston’s Wildman Street. Born in 1915,
the colourful Reid had served in the police force, where he had
been a champion marksman. After leaving the police he kept up
his connections, ran a thriving liquor business with his wife, and
continued to rear his guns at all times – pianist Theophilius Beck-
ford remembers Duke with a .45 and a .22 tucked into his waitband
and a rifle at his side, and Cocksone joked that he even kept them
on in the bath. The armaments created a forceful impression that
couls often be intimidating, as singer Derrick Morgan cecalled,
talking about his 1959 audition: “I go down by Duke Reid, an’ when
I go down there I see this man in a him liquor store. I say: good
mornin’ mista Duke. Im say: What can I do for you now? I think
he ‘ave two two gun a him side, an’ him finger full a ring. I say:
I hear that you havin’ audition suh, an’ I come fe sing too. Im say:
You can sing? I say: yes, so ‘im say: sing – in front of all who
buying’…”
The combination of powerful sound system and Duke’s aggressive
bearing also attrackted the so-called ‘bad men’ of the day – man
like Dapper Dan, Buggy an’ Horse, Sam Jeggy and Gearge Moore.
They acted as ‘enforcers’ around the dance, and they or their friends
would also sabotage dances held by other sounds, usually by lobbing
stones over the fence or by starting fights…

Although I realise that most of our visitors find samba a bit
difficult to listen to I can’t resist posting some of the stuff.
Ever since I heard Dona Ivone Lara first time I got captured
by her pleasant voice and music. Personally I think the best
samba was made a bit earlier but Dona Ivone Lara managed
to keep alive the sound that I like so much. If you are into
Brazilian samba do not miss this one, I strongly recommend
you give it a spin, who knows what will happen depois..Então gente, se você gosta de samba, não se esquece de
baixar ese disco aqui. Dona Ivone Lara com a voz deliciosa
dela esta aqui pra fazer vocês feliz. Eu fiquei muito e espero
