Nederland kleurt volledig wit door de sneeuw vandaag, mooie
plaatjes levert dat altijd op. In de loop van de dag wordt er nog
veel meer verwacht met stevige windvlagen en een gevoels-
temperatuur van -15 º, het begin van een zeer koude week.
Lang geleden dat de winter ons dit bracht .. wat doen we
om wat warmte te realiseren ? Afrikaanse muziek
is op deze zondag de ultieme oplossing ..

De muzikanten van Gëstu de Dakar werken op dit album samen
met enkele kopstukken van Orchestre Ngewel en van Orchestre
Baobab en dat is goed te horen. In het bijzonder Jean Pierre Gomez
wordt door hen bedankt voor de prettige samenwerking. Prachtige
plaat met prachtige hoes, warm je er vandaag aan.

The Netherlands are coloring white with snow today and that
always delivers beautiful images. During the rest of the day, much
more snow is expected, together with wind and a temperature that
feels like minus 15 degrees, the start of a very cold week. Long time
ago winter brought us this type of weather .. what to do to keep
us warm ? Maybe some African music will do the job ..

The musicians of Gëstu de Dakar work together with some big men
of Orchestre Ngewel and Orchestre Baobab on this album and that shows.
In particular Jean Pierre Gomez is receiving the thank you’s of the
members of this group for the fine collaboration. Beautiful

over weet of weet te vinden. Dit is er zo een. Liner notes
zeggen dat de componist Yande Codou is. Met zanger
Pape Mboup van Orchestre le Gorom die de nummers
in wolof zingt. De tracks vloeien in elkaar over dus
heb ik ze niet gescheiden deze rit. Het smaakt
zoals het kraakt, luister ..

Sometimes we find an intriguing album such as this one
about which you can’t say anything useful. This is such
a record. Liner notes say the music is composed by
Yande Codou. With singer Pape Mboup of Orchestre

Listening to Captain Beefheart in my car yesterday made me
record this album today. After a period of psychadelic and
experimental music, the captain returned to his own brand
of bluesrock. We had the groundbreaking ‘Trout Mask Replica’
and the more commercial ‘Unconditionally Guaranteed’ so far.
This record is more or less in the middle of those, both chrono-
logically as style-wise. I was still very young at this time in 1972
and learned about the captain way later. Always fascinated by
his typical vocal style and weirdness I became a fan half way
the seventies. Read Don Van Vliet’s bulky Wikipedia pages
to learn more about the man’s work and life ..

Nadat ik gisteren wat Captain Beefheart in de auto had geluis-
terd besloot ik vandaag weer eens iets van hem te posten. Na
een periode van psychedelische en experimentele muziek keerde
‘the captain’ terug naar zijn eigen bluesrock stijl in 1972. We
hadden tot dusver reeds het surrealistische ‘Trout Mask Replica’
en het meer commerciele ‘Unconditionally Guaranteed’. Deze LP
zat daar tussenin, zowel chronologisch als qua stijl. Ik was nog
erg jong ten tijde van deze plaat en leerde hem pas jaren later
kennen. Gefascineerd door zijn aparte manier van zingen en
vreemde melodieën werd ik een liefhebber rond de midden

It is very difficult to find these Etsakor records in good condition.
At a certain point one settles for a copy that leaves us something
to wish for. Finding it in mint is not only sheer impossible, if you
find one, better pull a big wallet. What do we have here today ?

Omo Smart Idornigie and his Happy Moveing Star Band is back
with this 1981 album. As said, it has some background noise but
plays fairly well. The highlife is of a deeep beauty, his records
we had before already found some happy listeners. Not much
information on his behalf is available, let’s just listen ..

Het is tamelijk moeilijk om deze Etsakor platen in goede conditie
te vinden. Op een zeker moment dien je genoegen te nemen met
een plaat die iets te wensen over laat. Hem in mint staat te vinden
is niet alleen bijna onmogelijk, als het je al lukt mag je een lieve
duit uit je zak trekken. Wat hebben we hier vandaag ?

dan snaren. Zodoende een stuk jonger klinkend dan de plaat
met Michel van gisteren. Voor de liefhebbers van soukous ..

Not entirely clear from what year this record is. A collaboration
between the brothers Michel and Pierre Moutouari and with
Pierre’s daughter Michaelle. Probably late eighties with more
keys than strings. Therefore much younger sounding then the
one with Michel we had yesterday. For soukous lovers ..

Ik heb in het verleden diverse platen gepost met Kosmos
Moutouari en Pierre Moutouari. Vandaag hebben we dit
mooie album met broer Michel. Ik zal de broers Moutouari
deze dagen eens wat aandacht geven. De muziek verdient
het weer eens gedraaid te worden. Van deze plaat is niet
bekend uit welk jaar hij stamt maar dat mag de pret niet
drukken. Wederom zo’n pareltje op het label van Eddy
Gustave. Logo is hetzelfde als Eddy’Son Consortium
Mondial maar nu heet het Kadance. Hoe dan ook,
luister eens naar Michel Moutouari ..

In the past we’ve seen various albums with Kosmos and
Pierre Moutouari. Today we find this album with brother
Michel. I’ll give the brothers Moutouari some extra atten-
tion the coming days. Their music deserves to be played
a little more. From this record it is not known from what
year it comes but that can’t spoil the fun. Once again a
little pearl from Eddy Gustave’s label. The logo is the
same as with Eddy’Son Consortium Mondial but this
time it is called Kadance. One way or the other,

It was recorded and mixed at Studio Vévé. Also released
on Editions Vévé Int. originally. This copy however comes
to us on Rythmes et Musique as REM 620. Evoloko Jocker
started his career with Zaïko Langa-Langa from 1969 to ’74.
This solo album on which he appears with Orchestre Langa-
Langa Stars is from 1985. Read the Wiki page to see how his
career took place. So many changes in strength over the
years make the story quite complex. Listen to ‘La Carte

hij aanvankelijk uitgebracht op Editions Vévé Int. Deze komt
op Rythmes et Musique als REM 620. Evoloko Jocker begon
zijn carrière bij Zaïko Langa-Langa van 1969 to 1974. Dit solo
album, waarop hij met Orchestre Langa-Langa Stars verschijnt,

An album posted in may 2015 caused some download
problems then. It should be working now but the files
were not organised like we do today and I decided to
do a Re-Post on them. This is one of the cd’s I found in
Johnny Chirino’s store in Amsterdam after Discos
Fuentes told me about it. Guitarist Pedro Jairo Garces,
found its tragical death in 1972, only 30 years of age.
He was the leader of this happy sounding band. Los
Golden Boys mixed traditional music like gaita, porro
and cumbia with twist and rock & roll.
Originally on LP in 1964 ..

Er waren toen aanvankelijk wat download problemen.
Ondertussen werkt de link wel maar de files waren niet
compleet en georganiseerd zoals we vandaag de dag doen.
Vandaar vandaag deze Re-Post. Dit is één van die cd’s die
ik vond in Johnny Chirino’s zaak nadat Discos Fuentes me
over hem vertelde. Gitarist Pedro Jairo Garces overleed
ongelukkigerwijs in december 1972, slechts 30 jaar oud.
Hij was de leider van deze zeer gezellig klinkende band.
Los Golden Boys speelde een mix van traditionele muziek
als gaita, porro en cumbia met twist en rock & roll.
