louter mooie tekeningetjes bekladden, afgesproken ?
Voor de Nico addicts Mambo Pete en Reservatory maar
natuurlijk ook voor de andere liefhebbers heb ik hier nog
een bijzondere verzameling mooie Afrikaanse liedjes.
Oorspronkelijk uitgebracht in 1971 is dit de heruitgave
uit 1976. 40 jaar oud maar in prima staat, luister..

Hoe meer ik er naar luister, hoe fijner ik het vind, compas uit Haïti.
Op Macaya heben we hier Les Banges met een elpee uit 1973. Toch
al een van die jaren waarin de allermooiste muziek is verschenen,
en dan komt deze er ook nog bij, ik word er blij van..

The more I listen to it, the more I like it, compas from Haïti. On
Macaya we find Les Banges with this 1973 album. Already one of
those years that brought us the most wonderful records, and now
we can add this one to them, it makes me happy..

Altijd weer een feest als er een plaatje van Docteur Nico opduikt.
Dit is een van de platen die mijn Franse vriend uit Congo mee terug
bracht. Hij heeft hier en daar wat kleine kraakjes en dergelijke maar
dat mag de pret niet drukken. De dokter kan zich wel iets pemitteren.

Always a happy moment when another album by Docteur Nico shows
up. This is one of the records my French friend brought home from
his trip to Congo. It has some minor background noise but that won’t

Jean Serge Essous is volgens Sylvain Bemba de Congolese
artiest die het meest internationaal heeft gewerkt. Deze
plaat heeft hij ergens in het Caraibisch gebied opgenomen.
Waar precies is niet geheel duidelijk maar waarschijnlijk
op Martinique. Op drums horen we Claude Vamur, en verder
zijn er naast Essous, Jerry Malerani, Martino Samba en
Toroma Thoms, les Merry Guys. op het web heb ik niets
over dit album kunnen vinden. Het vijfde nummer
hebben we op de gelijknamige elpee wel reeds
eerder langs zien en horen komen..

Jean Serge Essous is the most international artist from
Congo if we believe Sylvain Bemba. This record must be
recorded somewhere in the Caraibbean, probably on

In 1983 kwamen the Techniques nog eens bij elkaar en maakten,
ditmaal zonder Slim Smith, deze plaat. 12 jaar na hun laatste optreden
maar nog altijd buitengewoon vaardig zoals dit album duidelijk maakt.
Kant A is wel wat beter dan kant B, luister zelf..

In 1983 the Techniques came together, without Slim Smith this time,
and made this here record. 12 years after their latest performance
they show they were still very skillful as this album illustrates.
A side is slightly better than B side, listen..

Studio One bracht dit album aanvankelijk uit in
1973. Dit is de cd versie op Heartbeat uit 1991.

Keith ‘Slim’ Smith’s untimely death in 1973 brought an end
to the career of one of Jamaica’s most revered singers whose
musical legacy remains untarnished to this day. An achingly
soulful singer, whose vocal style was reminiscent of the
Impressions’ Curtis Mayfield, Slim Smith personified the
greatness of the rocksteady and early reggae periods of
which he is a principal voice. Slim Smith started his career
as a member of the Victors Youth Band who where among
the champions of the 1964 Jamaica Festival. Moving to Duke
Reid’s Treasure Isle label, he and Frederick Waite, Franklyn
White and Winston Riley became known as the Techniques.
Slim Smith moved to Studio One as a solo artist recording a
series of succesful singles that Clement Dodd compiled as the
basis for the ‘Born to Love’ album. This album is a testament
to Slim Smith’s greatness both as a singer and a songwriter.

In 1969 uitgebracht op Coxsone Records, CSL 8019, met twaalf
nummers. Dit is de cd versie op Treasure Isle records, CSCD 8019
met 16 nummers uit 1995. Alton Ellis werd ook wel de Godfather
of Rocksteady genoemd. In het kader van de Studio One releases
hier op de Global Groove, veel luisterplezier..

voor de deur dus is het zaak de warmte in de muziek te zoeken.

Machine a Tubes zal het zeker lukken, verwarm je er maar snel aan.

Yesterday, winter officially begon in the Netherlands. The same
moment we passed the shortest day and slowly go in the right
direction again. The hardest cold however is still ahead of us
so it’s inevitable and necessary to seek our warmth in music.
With Celi Bitshu we shall surely succeed, with his indefatigable

Eens in de zoveel tijd duikt er zo’n juweeltje op, zo een als deze.
Een compilatie van Colombiaanse bodem met een rijtje pure en
pretentieloze muzikanten. Niet de meest bekende namen maar
stuk voor stuk jongens naar mijn hart. De vallenato’s op deze
plaat zijn precies wat ik zoek in deze stroming, luister naar de
rollende ritmes, de achtergrond vokaaltjes, frontzangers
met stemmen die blijven hangen, echt lekker spul..

Every once in so much time we find one like this, a killer com-
pilation from Colombian soil with only pure and non pretentious
musicians on it. Not the most famous of names but one by one
guys that make me happy. The vallenatos on this record are just
what I’m looking for, listen to the rolling rhythms, the sweet back-
ground vocals, leadsingers with voices that stick in your head.

Goeiemiddag, hier is de volgende heerlijke Studio One plaat.
De werken van Clement Coxsone Dodd zijn legendarisch te
noemen en daarom doen we er nog maar eentje. Delroy
Wilson is een van de pioniers afkomstig van jamaica en
deze schijf vinyl brengt twaalf prachtige songs van zijn
hand. Helaas heeft hij een beetje kraak en nummer 7
ook een tik, sorry daarvoor. Verder veel luistergenot.

Good afternoon, see here the next wonderful Studio One
record. The works of Clement Coxsone Dodd can be called
legendary so let’s do one more today. Delroy Wilson is one
of the pioneers from Jamaica and this slice of vinyl brings us
twelve beautiful songs by him. Unfortunately it has some
background noise and track 7 also a pop, sorry about that.
Part from that it’s pure listening pleasure.
