Goed mensen, vandaag weer eens een stukje stevige Congolese
sound. Ik zou het geen Soukous willen noemen, misschien eerder
Congo-Rock of Cavacha. Hoe dan ook, het betreft hier een elpee
waar ik persoonijk heel blij van word. Heerlijke zangstemmen,
voortrollende ritme-partijen, fijne blazers en snaren, een plaat
om zeker niet te missen. De naam op de hoes is natuurlijk
verkeerd gespeld en moet zijn Minzoto Wella Wella..

Allright people, today we’ll spoil you with another fine piece
of firm Congolese music. I wouldn’t call it Soukous, maybe
Congo-Rock or Cavacha. One way or the other, it concerns
an album which makes me very happy. Delightful voices,
consistent rolling rhythms, great horns and strings, an lp
not to miss. The name on the frontcover is spelled wrong
and must be Minzoto Wella Wella of course..

Zo door de jaren heen vinden we steeds minder elpees van
de artiesten die we graag horen, simpelweg omdat de collectie
groeit. Er blijven er alsmaar minder over en persoonlijk vind ik
het geen sport om de platen online te zoeken. Ze zelf tegen het
lijf lopen blijft de uitdaging. Onlangs vond ik op de Utrechtse
beurs weer een paar ontbrekende schakels. Deze van le Grand
Maître bijvorbeeld. Het eerste nummer staat wel op de in de
winkel gekochte Francophonic cd maar de andere nummers
ontbraken nog volledig in de collectie. Ongeveer een jaar
geleden hadden we wel al volume 2. Luister maar snel ..

Over the years it gets more and more difficult to find albums
of our beloved artists we didn’t have yet, simply because our
collection grows of course. Personally I think it’s no sport to
buy them online, walking into them myself remains the big
challenge. Recently I found us a couple of missing links at
the Utrecht recordfair. This one by le Grand Maître for
example. The first track is on the Francophonic cd but
the other three are new in our collection. About one
year ago we did have volume 2, so listen quickly..

Het was in oktober 2011 dat ik Rochereau à l’Olympia heb geplaatst.
Het viel me toen al op dat de zogenaamde live elpee in feite een studio
opname betrof waar later publiek gejoel en applaus tussen was gemixed.
Een deel van de nummers die op deze plaat stonden komen eigenlijk
van de epee die we vandaag hebben. Hij is opgenomen in Parijs in
december 1970. In 1971 heeft ‘african’ de gemixte versie uitgebracht.
Op dit origineel zijn de nummers in kortere versies uitgefaded en op
de andere zijn wat echo-effecten gebruikt om het live gevoel te faken.

It was in october 2011 when I posted Rochereau à l’Olympia . It was
already quite clear from that moment that something was wrong and
that the so called live album was in fact a studio recording on which
they had mixed live audience sound in a later stage. The record we
have today contains a bunch of tracks used to make this one .
Today’s album was recorded in Paris in 1970 and ‘african’
produced the other in 1971. On this original the numbers
have been faded into shorter versions where on the faked
live version echo-effects were used to give it a live-feel..

Op 19 december 2011 heb ik deze elpee geplaatst.
De hoes van de plaat komt zeer veel overeen met die van
vandaag maar het betreft hier een heel andere. Dat was EVVI 11
en dit is EVVI 63, ik weet niet uit welk jaar. Verckys brengt nummers
van zichzelf maar ook van Mantuika, Bonyeme en Kiambukuta.

Its frontcover looks almost similar with today’s record but it is
a complete different one. That was EVVI 11 and this is EVVI 63
I don’t know from what year. Verckys brings us songs by himself
but also by Mantuika, Bonyeme and Kiambukuta, enjoy..

Op Disco Stock hebben we vandaag een mooi stukje cavacha
van de Congolese groep Viva la Musica. Voorman Papa Wemba
overleed afgelopen zaterdag tijdens een optreden in Abidjan op
66 jarige leeftijd. Hij kwam tijdens zijn carriere diverse malen in
opspraak, onder andere wegens mensensmokkel. Papa wemba’s
echte naam was Jules Shungu Wembadio Pene Kikumba. Hij was
een van de oprichters van Zaïko Langa Langa..

On Disco Stock we’ve got this slice of cavacha by Viva la Musica.
Frontman Papa Wemba died last saturday during a performance
in Abidjan, age 66. He was involved in smugging scandals a few
times in his life. His real name was Jules Shungu Wembadio Pene
Kikumba. Papa Wemba was one of the founders of Zaïko Langa
Langa. Listen to his most succesful band, Viva la Musica..

een door Yenga Yenga en drie door Koffi Olomide. De cavacha
op dit album is uit 1978 en rockt er lekker op los. Nog zo’n elpee

wordt dunner. Als ik me niet vergis horen we niet alleen een jonge
Pascal Rochereau maar ook Docteur Nico was van de partij. Altijd
even solide werk van deze oude Congolese helden.
