What have we got cooking for you today ?
This record with J.A. Agboola and his Beaming Star contains
Nigerian music, that much is clear. But how to define it is the
question. The rhythms are pointing towards juju, lots of talking
drums and such, the guitar parts and vocals are more highlife
related however. A typical album I would file under juju highlife.
It appears in good condition although from 1978, we’re lucky
to have it. Listen and make up your own mind ..

Goeiemorgen, wat hebben we vandaag voor je uitgezocht ?
Deze plaat met J.A. Agboola and his Beaming Star vol. 3 bevat
Nigeriaanse muziek, zoveel is duidelijk. Hoe deze te definiëren
is de vraag. De ritmes wijzen in de richting van juju, flink wat
talking drums en zo. De gitaren en vokalen echter klinken iets
meer naar highlife. Ik zou dit album daarom juju highlife willen
noemen. Hij verkeert in prima conditie alhoewel uit 1978.

Het is alweer bijna 14 jaar geleden dat we de eerste post
plaatsten. Het was Dr. Victor Abimbola’s ‘In the Sixties’.
In die tijd had ik de tags nog niet op orde zoals vandaag
de dag. Wel eens tijd om die prachtige plaat te herposten
met de juiste gegevens op de juiste plaats. Vandaag krijgt
hij deze updates en jij dus ook. Luister nogmaals ..

It is almost 14 years ago we had our very first post. It
was Dr. Victor Abimbola’s ‘In the Sixties’. In those days
I didn’t place all the right tags like nowadays. About time
to do that and update the file, today you may find the better
version. I’d say get it, especially when you didn’t before.

Captain, Cardinal, Chief Dr, Chief Honourable, Colonel, Dr.Sir,
Field Marshal, General, General Prince, Prince, Gentleman,
Madam, Queen and Professor. Today we feature an artist
with the most iconic title, Emperor Pick Peters & his Seidor
International Band, also called the Wizard Guitarist.

titels aan. Ik weet niet zeker of ze die zichzelf toeëigenen of dat
ze ze krijgen toegewezen. We zien Admiral, Alhaji and Alhaja,

Jacob Oluwole’s juju is reminiscent of the sound of early
Sunny Adé records. I recently found this album of which
unfortunately we can’t read the title. Its frontsleeve is
somewhat damaged over the years. No title, no year of
release. I’ve been searching the web, but without result.
If you know or have this record, please send us a picture
so we can title it, thank you in advance ..

Jacob Oluwole’s juju doet denken aan het geluid van vroege
platen van Sunny Adé. Ik vond onlangs deze plaat waarvan we
tot mijn spijt geen titel kunnen lezen. De hoes is over de jaren
beschadigd geraakt. Geen titel, geen jaar van uitgifte. Ik heb
het web afgezocht, maar zonder resultaat. Als jij de plaat hebt
of kent, stuur ons s.v.p. een foto zodat we hem kunnen
benoemen, bij voorbaat dank ..

On this album from 1977 Lanrewaju Adepoju shows his
admiration for Sunny Adé. It is in juju and ewi style. We
see him at the back sleeve with Sunny Adé, not sure if
Sunny participates. Side one sounds like him, if you
can tell us, please do ..

de plaat met Sunny Adé, ik weet niet zeker of Sunny ook werkelijk
meespeelt. Kant 1 klinkt wel als hem, als jij het weet, vertel het
ons dan ook alsjeblieft ..

When looking at Etsakor highlife and the field of artists
one person stands out like no other. Alhaji Waziri Oshomah
is here with this 1986 album on Shanu Olu Records. Waziri’s
wife Hassanah is present like on most of his records, sweet.

Als we de highlife uit Etsakor onder de loep nemen valt één
man het meest op. Alhaji Waziri Oshomah is hier met zijn
album ‘Message to My people’ op Shanu Olu Records uit
1986. Waziri’s vrouw Hassanah is ook weer van de partij.

Today I want to introduce an Islamic type of Nigerian
music we haven’t heard here before. It appears to be
some kind of apala or fuji, only voices over drums. We
find Baba Eyin Oke and his Dadakuada Group. You can

Today’s album concerns a rare Aibor Bello and his Aloagbaye.
The two records we had so far are to be found in Discogs’
discography, this one is not. It is from 1980 and appears
on DES Records. An awesome piece of Etsakor Highlife
for your weekend. Funny thing is that the ‘A’ and the
‘O’ are swithed in the title.
