Aboudou Lassissi

The sleeve is taped together but the lp itself is in
fine condition. I heard you guys talking about the
Cutlass Dance Band of Ghana and pulled one out
for ya. It was released in Cote d’Ivoire on Sacodis
and off course produced by Aboudou Lassissi.
Before this lp they made five in Ghana and this
must be the first of two albums produced outside
Ghana. Listen to Osenkafo I.K. Annin and
his Cutlass Dance Band of Ghana.

I have no idea what our guest of today is talking about
at the beginning of this album. Only tell me if you think
I would want to know. I’ve told you before, sometimes
we just better listen without wondering. I hadn’t heard
of Scarpview’s Band until I found this lp at the fair
recently. The highlife sounds nice, the album is
clean, for Ghanaian lp’s from the era this is a
rare thing, unfortunately the frontsleeve is
damaged a little bit. Listen to ‘Si No Pi’

‘Times have changed’, a statement still appropriate..
It could be you think I only collect tropical music
but that isn’t the case at all. I started my hobby
long time ago during the seventies and began with
collecting pop, soul, jazz and many other styles.
Today I want to bring you an album by a soulgroup
I have always loved a lot. The Impressions with the
late and great Curtis Mayfield have always been one
of my favourite bands. Last week while meeting with
one of the GG’s music providers, we listened to a
‘Best of’ album by the Impressions and I decided to
post some of those obscure soul albums I collected
over the years. This one is for you Alex, enjoy it..

It was 1981, a flock of spaceships entered the
London atmosphere. Hopeton Brown, better
known as Scientist was luckily around with
the Roots Radics to save the day. Tony
McDermott made the snapshot at a
perfect moment and captured our
young hero in full action.

Sanjay who just came back from Colombia. Let’s see
what he brought back this time. One of the artists I got
to know this way is Colacho Mendoza. His vallenatos
now belong to my favourites and I really can’t resist
playing his music anymore. The album we have for
you today must be from the seventies somewhere,
it does not tell us. Volume one was released late
seventies so it will be close. Whenever Colacho
Mendoza came to play somewhere, it sounded;
“Llego Colacho…!!! Entonce vamo a bebé..!!
Colacho’s here, so let’s have a drink !

I’ve heard somewhere Shleu Shleu was the name of some
mysterious tribe, great. These guys were no part of the tribe
but used their name. Les Shleu Shleu were here before, some
of the songs on this album were also on this album.
Label and sleeve do not agree on what’s a-side and b-side,
I thought I’d better stick to the sleeve’s info so I did.
It does mean the title song of the lp ending up on the b-side
but that’s fine with me. If we listen to these fine songs, we
instantly forget everything else, sweeet Haitian stuff..

Hello groovers, yesterday I received some really nice
feedback from one of our visitors. Obiora Obikwelu from
Minnesota USA is from Nigerian descent and grew up with
the Nigerian Highlife of Oliver de Coque, Oriental Brothers
and such. He started his own little group inspired by the
music of his ancestors and sent us some copies of their
songs to share with you. Let’s see what happens.

To begin with, some more studying material from Nigeria.
Chief Stephen Osita Osadebe is back with an album I did
not post yet. Other blogs have brought it but to complete
our Osadebe discography ( some fine day ) I didn’t want
to keep it from you and today is a good day to do so.
It’s frontsleeve is damaged quite bad but I did not find
a solid replacement. It is what it is. The rhythms
however are just breathtakingly wonderful..

Thank you Obi for your mail and it’s fantastic to hear what
came out of your Nigerian hat. I want to ask you visitors to
check youtube for their other songs, they have a few more
there to listen to. Listen to Chief Stephen Osita Osadebe
and lend an ear to the Okwute Melody Makers of Africa
as well, hope you like’m..

It may have been because of the scratches, I don’t recall
exactly why I never posted this album. Today I could not
resist, with the great Sam Mangwana and the African All
Stars, this is a nice slice of Congolese music on Ivorian
vinyl. On Edition Disc-Orient from Cote d’Ivoire..

Are you one of our visitors interested in vallenato ? Take a look here.
If you look at the schedule of winners of the tournament, you’ll
find Nafer Duran as the winner of 1976. This is the album launched
afterwards and gives us a fine impression of what was considered
the best vallenato in that year. Other winners will pass by later
but today listen to the great Nafer Duran and his winning sound.

Unfortunately the 8th track of the lp was damaged too much to play,
( tracks 8 & 9 were originally 9 & 10 ) I left it and to make
up for the loss, I have added some singles
as bonustracks, they are from 1975.
