At the end of the year I tend to go back in time and play
records that I used to way back when I was younger. While
going through my collection I stumbled onto this one. Man,
how I have always loved this album with performance-artist
Laurie Anderson. Look at the list of performers she brought
along here. Adrian Belew (guitar wizard), Bill Blaber, William
S. Burroughs, Michelle Cobbs, Anton Fier, Peter Gabriel, Connie
Harvey, Bill Laswell, Dolette McDonald, Brenda Nelson, Song
Won Park, Daniel Ponce, Nile Rodgers, David van Tieghem,
Phoebe Snow, Janet Wright and Atsuko Yuma. Awesome
team. 1984 was an important year for me, it was when I
opened my own Coffeeshop here in my hometown. I’ve
run it for 34 years until I sold it 5 years ago. This record

Aan het eind van het jaar heb ik altijd de neiging om terug
in de tijd te gaan en platen te draaien die ik vroeger veel
draaide toen ik jong was. Wandelend door de platenkast

Daevid Allen was the co-founder of psychedelic rock
groups Soft Machine (1966) and Gong (1967). Australian
born David, moved to England in 1961. He met with Robert
Wyatt, Kevin Ayers and Mike Ratledge and the formed the
band Soft Machine. After a European tour in ’67 he was
refused to re-entry the UK because he had overstayed
his tourist visum earlier. Back in Paris he began Gong.

van geboorte vertrok hij naar Engeland in 1961 waar hij
Robert Wyatt, Kevin Ayers en Mike Ratledge ontmoette.
Samen begonnen zij de band Soft Machine. Na een Europese
tour in ’67 werd hij geweigerd de UK terug in te reizen omdat
hij de termijn van zijn toeristen visum had overschreden.
Terug in Parijs begon hij toen de band Gong.

As record collector and enormous Frank Zappa fan I have almost
all his albums in my record cabinet. Been digitizing several of them
in the past. Some of the albums are extremely difficult to record
due to the fact numbers tend to run over in each other on a lot
of them, small samples and spoken pieces complicate things even
more. The one we have today is an exception. Six clean tracks on
Hot Rats. It’s from 1969 and has always been one of my favorites.
‘Willie the pimp’ features another idol by the way, Captain Beefheart.
Maybe Zappa’s music is not suited for all you listeners, but I’m sure
many more fans are out there. Listen and enjoy ..

Als platen verzamelaar en enorme Frank Zappa fan heb ik door de
jaren bijna al zijn albums in de kast weten te toveren. Ik heb er al
diverse van gedigitaliseerd in het verleden. Sommige van zijn platen
zijn zeer moeilijk te registreren vanwege het feit dat nummers in
elkaar over lopen, korte geluidssamples en gesproken delen maken
het soms zelfs nog moeilijker. Deze heerlijke elpee uit 1969, en een
van mijn favorieten, is daar gelukkig een uitzondering op. Zes schone
tracks. Het nummer ‘Willie the pimp’ wordt bovendien gezongen door
een ander idool, Captain Beefheart. Misschien, ofwel zeker, is Zappa’s
muziek niet voor alle downloaders geschikt. maar ik ben er zeker
van dat er meer fans rondlopen. Luister en geniet ..
