We had us a bunch of Tchico albums over the years. His
sound changed quite a bit since he first appeared in 1969
with Orchestre Manta Lokoka. On this 1990 record we hear
firm soukous, very danceable stuff. Tchico’s ‘Golden Voice’
remained indestructible. Not only his voice was golden as
shown on the front cover. If you have a party going on,
a couple of tracks from this album will surely score ..

Zijn geluid is behoorlijk gemoderniseerd sinds z’n eerste
optreden met Orchestre Manta Lokoka in 1969. Op deze
uit 1990 horen we stevige soukous, zeer dansbaar materiaal.
Tchico’s ‘Voix d’Or’ bleek onverwoestbaar. Maar niet alleen
zijn stem was van goud zoals de hoes illustreert. Mocht je
nog plannen hebben voor een feestavond kun je zeker
scoren met enkele nummers van dit album ..

it’s a couple of years since we’ve seen Les Leopards from
Martinique. Here’s an album of which we don’t know the
year it was released. It was their 8th anniversary, that much
is clear. Like most other records it came out on Hit Parade.
Unfortunately there are some minor sound issues here.
Some of the tracks show some resonance in the vocal
parts. Either way, we have no other options than to
listen to it as it comes. Enjoy it anyway ..

Les Leopards de la Martinique hadden. Van deze weten
we geen jaar van uitgifte. Hij was ter ere van hun 8ste
verjaardag, zoveel is duidelijk. Zoals de meeste van hun
albums kwam hij uit op Hit Parade. Helaas heeft hij enkele
kleine geluidskwesties. Op sommige nummers hoor je de
vokalen wat resoneren. Hoe dan ook, we hebben alleen
dit exemplaar om naar te luisteren, plezier ermee ..

If listening to this we go back in time to the early eighties.
My friends and I used to visit a bar in Amsterdam called
‘de Kroeg’, it used to be at ‘de Lijnbaansgracht’. We loved
it because they played salsa until early in the morning.
A lot of stuff from the great Fania label like this album.
We were young and partied like crazy in those days.

Als ik naar deze muziek luister ga ik terug in de tijd naar de
vroege jaren tachtig. Mijn vrienden en ik gingen met regel-
maat naar ‘de Kroeg’ aan de Lijnbaansgracht in Amsterdam.
Daar werd de hele nacht geweldige salsa gedraaid en soms
gespeeld. We waren verknocht aan die tent, tot ‘s morgens
vroeg werd er gedanst en gedronken. We waren jong en wild.

Today we find a quite unknown album released by Elf Congo.
Elf was a French petrol company until it went on under Total in
2021. In 1983 they released this record with their own Orchestre
Elf Music. Members are shown below. Their names are all new to
me. Maybe not the best orchestre Congolais we heard, but still,
this is a quite entertaining album. Give it a chance and let us
know what you think about it ..

benzine bedrijf dat tot 2021 onder deze naam werkte en toen

Good morning, as a record collector one takes a look in
stores where ever we go. My wife and I visited New York
City last week. A trip that was on my wish list for a long
time. We went to see the place my mother used to live
between 1920 and 1930. She was born in Brooklyn. On
one day we looked around in Greenwich Village. In East
Village we visited ‘Stranded Records’ where I found three
albums with Om Kalsoum. Today I bring you the first,
‘El Alb Yeshak Kol Gamil’ from 1971. Get it,
spread it and enjoy listening ..

Goeiemorgen, als platen verzamelaar loop je recordstores
binnen waar je ook bent. Mijn vrouw en ik waren vorige
week in New York, dat stond al lang op m’n verlanglijstje.
We zijn het adres gaan opzoeken waar m’n moeder woonde
tussen 1920 en 1930, ze werd geboren in Brooklyn. Op een

Until today I thought I had posted them all, the nine volumes
I have from the magnificent series ‘Les Grands Succes des
Editions Vévé’. After making a promise to my new Congolese
friend Willy yesterday, I went searching for unposted treasure
and what do I find ? I never posted volume 3. Wonderful stuff
by Orchestre Vévé. It is in mint condition. We are lucky today,
this one is for you Willy, get it and spread it !
P.S. track #4 has some crackle, but is not
the album, it is in the recording they used .

Tot op de dag van vandaag dacht ik dat ik alle negen delen, die
ik heb van de prachtige serie ‘Les Grands Succes des Editions Vévé’,
al gepost had. Nadat ik gisteren aan m’n nieuwe Congolese vriend
Willy beloofde op zoek te gaan naar ongeposte schatten vond ik dit.
Het blijkt dat ik Vol. 3 nooit gepost had, Geweldige plaat met
Orchestre Vévé. Hij verkeert ook nog in mint conditie. We
hebben mazzel vandaag. Deze is voor
jou Willy, down, deel en luister !
P.S. Nummer 4 heeft wat kraakjes, maar ziet er clean uit,
het zit niet in deze plaat, maar in de gebruikte opname.

find this Original Motion Picture Sound Track today. The movie
‘Brothers’ from 1977. Very mellow jazz fusion with calypso steel
drum and Taj’ great voice, just right for your Sunday afternoon ..
