Until today I thought I had posted them all, the nine volumes
I have from the magnificent series ‘Les Grands Succes des
Editions Vévé’. After making a promise to my new Congolese
friend Willy yesterday, I went searching for unposted treasure
and what do I find ? I never posted volume 3. Wonderful stuff
by Orchestre Vévé. It is in mint condition. We are lucky today,
this one is for you Willy, get it and spread it !
P.S. track #4 has some crackle, but is not
the album, it is in the recording they used .

Tot op de dag van vandaag dacht ik dat ik alle negen delen, die
ik heb van de prachtige serie ‘Les Grands Succes des Editions Vévé’,
al gepost had. Nadat ik gisteren aan m’n nieuwe Congolese vriend
Willy beloofde op zoek te gaan naar ongeposte schatten vond ik dit.
Het blijkt dat ik Vol. 3 nooit gepost had, Geweldige plaat met
Orchestre Vévé. Hij verkeert ook nog in mint conditie. We
hebben mazzel vandaag. Deze is voor
jou Willy, down, deel en luister !
P.S. Nummer 4 heeft wat kraakjes, maar ziet er clean uit,
het zit niet in deze plaat, maar in de gebruikte opname.

in this article we honour Ballou
Canta, but especially Congo’s late & great rhythm guitarist
Lokassa Ya Mbongo ! Last wednesday Lokassa died age 80.
He was the frontman of ‘Soukous Stars’. Lokassa’s career
spans some 50 years. He played with Tabu Ley Rochereau’s
Afrisa from 1970 to 1978 alongside singers Pepe Ndombe,
Sam Mangwana and Michelino Mavatiku Visi. Later Lokassa
was part of the great Afican All Stars with Dizzy Mandjekou
and Sam Mangwana. Also starring Ringo Moya, Syran, Bopol,
Pablo Lubadika, Theo Blaise Kounkou and others. This album
is with Ballou Canta, one of the other founders of ‘Soukous
Stars’. It came out in 1990, just after the start of Soukous
Stars. Also starring here is Dally Kimoko.

When Peter Gabriel started his Real World label back in 1989,
Tabu Ley Rochereau did this studio/live performance for him.
It was done in one evening at the Real World studios, Wiltshire,
England. The album contains hi-lites from Rochereau’s previous
20 years of career. Get it and spread it ..

From 1989 we find this tape with Malage de Lugendo.
He sang with Franco’s TPOK Jazz, Mayaula Moyoni, Tabu
Ley’s Afrisa and other groups. I’ve added three of
Malage’s finest songs. Listen to Malage
and his golden voice, sweeet ..

Uit 1989 hebben we vandaag deze tape met Malage de
Lugendo. Hij zong met Franco’s TPOK Jazz, Mayaula Mayoni,
Tabu Ley’s Afrisa en andere groepen. Ik heb drie van

today we’ve got another of his albums with Freddy de Majunga.
More firm soukous to make you dance across the floor. Kick
aside your furniture and go wild. Beware, once

Net als afgelopen vrijdag hebben we vandaag nog zo’n stevige
soukous plaat met Master Mwana Congo en Freddy de Majunga.
Dit is de ideale sound om eens lekker los te gaan, schop je
meubilair opzij en laat je gaan. Pas op, als je eenmaal
op dreef bent is er geen stoppen meer aan ..

as Master Mwana-Congo. Master Mwana played with dozens
of Congolese artists, his guitar was one of the most heard on
records of a range of stars. Under his own name there’s only
a few. Today’s album has no year of release. Like most it
appeared on Eddy’Son, (this time a sub) Saxone-Music. Strictly

Master Mwana-Congo. Master Mwana speelde met talloze Con-
golese artiesten, maar maakte slechts enkele platen onder zijn
eigen naam. Zijn gitaarspel is een van de meest gehoorde op
de platen van een reeks anderen. Dit album heeft geen

This is a Sonodisc cd from 1994 on which we find five
songs. They say ‘en compagnie de Sam Mangwana’,
but we do not hear him on every track. Track #3 is called
Batela makili na ngai, we know it as ‘Sadou’ of course.
Dear Franco specialists, please listen to see if the other
titles are correct. I hope it to be worthwhile ..

Today’s contribution is not my own rip, I found it through
a friend. It has a different quality, 192 kbps. It also came
without a backsleeve picture. One way or the other, it
is still nice to have another Empire Bakuba album to
listen to, get it and spread it ..

De plaat van vandaag is niet uit de eigen stal, maar komt
bij ons via een vriend. Hij heeft een andere bitrate, 192 kbps.
Tevens ontbreekt de foto van de achterkant. Hoe dan ook,
altijd fijn om weer een andere Empire Bakuba te kunnen

For this sunday we’ve got another album with Theo Blaise Kounkou.
It has no year of release, but I suspect it to be from the second half
of the eighties. Once more Theo brought along Master Mwana Congo
and to my pleasure Lokassa ya Mbongo and Dally Kimoko. Some keys
are present, not too many however, the three guitar heroes save the
album to my opinion. Quite up-tempo and strong soukous ..

Voor deze zondag hebben we dit album met Theo Blaise Kounkou
geselecteerd. Er is geen jaar van uitgifte bekend, maar ik verwacht
dat het in de tweede helft van de jaren tachtig moet zijn geweest.
Wederom bracht Theo Master Mwana Congo mee en tot mijn ge-
noegen ook Lokassa ya Mbongo en Dally Kimoko. We horen wat
toetsen, maar gelukkig niet teveel, de drie gitaar helden redden
de plaat wat mij betreft. Tamelijk sterke soukous ..
