Good morning, as I told you, all my records are in storage for a while.
Therefore I am now posting an album from my digital archive. It is one
that was sent to me by a friend. No tags as you are used to find here,
but nevertheless a great record. No year of release is known.
Solid listening with Papa Noel who got his name for being
born on Christmas day 1940 ..
P.S. I think we hear Carlito on track #2.

Goeiemorgen, zoals gezegd zijn al mijn elpees momenteel in de opslag.
Daarom post ik vandaag een plaat uit mijn digitale archief. Deze is me
ooit door een vriend gestuurd, geen tags zoals je hier gewend bent,
maar een heerlijk album. Geen jaar van uitgifte is van deze bekend.
Wat we wel hebben is een degelijke luister ervaring met Papa
Noel die z’n naam kreeg omdat hij is geboren op
Kerstdag 1940 ..

Uit 1981 komt dit album met ‘le Grand Edo’, Edouard Canga.
Hij en zijn band brengen een potpourri aan songs uit de jaren
40 en 50, nummers van Jean Serge Essous, Joseph Kabasele,
Camille Feruzi, Pamelo Mounk’a, Rosario Germano en Edo
zelf natuurlijk. Sfeervolle plaat die herinneringen uit
vervlogen tijden oproept ..

From 1981 we’ve got this album with ‘le Grand Edo’, Edouard
Canga. Edo and his band bring a potpourri of songs from the
1940’s and 1950’s, compositions by Jean Serge Essous, Joseph
Kabasele, Camille Feruzi, Pamelo Mounk’a, Rosario Germano
and Edo himself of course. Atmospheric record that
brings back memories of bygone years ..

His style changed quite a bit over the years. I think this
1991 album with Rochereau is maybe not his very best
work. Considering the man’s complete oeuvre we owe
him to listen to all his work. Face a Face, made in the
nineties, sounds like the nineties. Synthesized and
quite modern we see a lot of unfamiliar names. To me
only singer Faya Tess and guitarist Dizzy Mandjeku
ring bells. An addition to Tabu Ley’s discography ..

Zijn stijl veranderde behoorlijk door de jaren. Ik denk
dat dit niet zijn allersterkste werk is, maar in het licht
van zijn complete oeuvre zijn we Rochereau verschuldigd
naar alles te luisteren. Face a Face uit 1991 klinkt ook echt
jaren 90. Gesynthetiseerd en tamelijk modern, een album
met veel onbekende namen. Alleen zangeres Faya Tess en
gitarist Dizzy Mandjeku doen bij mij belletjes rinkelen.
Voeg toe aan Tabu Ley’s discografie ..

The only thing we can do is listen to it, enjoy doing so.

Le Grand Maître Franco Luambo Makiadi passed in 1989.
In 1990 le Grand Père Bozi Boziana and his group Anti-Choc
released this hommage. Quite different from Franco’s sound,
but an absolute delightful album. I’m so sorry I don’t understand
Lingala, I’d love to know the words in ‘Hommage à Franco’.
Maybe someone can translate for us .. enjoy listening ..

De grote meester Franco Luambo Makiadi stierf in 1989.
In 1990 lanceerde le Grand Père Bozi Boziana en zijn groep
Anti-Choc dit eerbetoon aan Franco. Nogal een ander geluid
dan dat van Franco, maar een absolute aanrader. Het is jammer
dat ik geen lingala versta, had graag de tekst in ‘Hommage à Franco’
begrepen. Misschien kan iemand het voor ons vertalen ..

From Brazzaville we have this album with Aurlus Mabélé.
He was the founder of Groupe Loketo and people called
him the ‘King of Soukous’. This is a record from 1991, Dally
Kimoko does the sharp soukous guitar parts.
If you have a summer dance party, don’t skip some of
these tracks, absolute dance floor killers ..

Uit Brazzaville vinden we vandaag deze plaat met Aurlus
Mabélé. Hij was de man die groupe Loketo oprichtte en
men noemde hem de ‘King of Soukous’. Dit album is uit
1991, Dally Kimoko neemt de scherpe soukous gitaar
voor z’n rekening. Als je een zomer dans
feestje hebt, vegeet dan niet enkele van deze nummers
te draaien, absolute dansvloer ‘killers’ ..

Bozi Boziana, on this album with his own group, l’Antichoc’,
worked with the Zaiko Langa-Langa scene for a long time.
In this setting he became most influential in there genre.
Strong performance you don’t want to miss ..

Bozi Boziana werkte jaren lang met de Zaiko Langa-Langa
scene. Uiteindelijk begon hij zijn eigen band, l’Antichoc’.
Met deze groep werd hij een van de meest invloedrijke

We had us a bunch of Tchico albums over the years. His
sound changed quite a bit since he first appeared in 1969
with Orchestre Manta Lokoka. On this 1990 record we hear
firm soukous, very danceable stuff. Tchico’s ‘Golden Voice’
remained indestructible. Not only his voice was golden as
shown on the front cover. If you have a party going on,
a couple of tracks from this album will surely score ..

We hadden al aardig wat van zijn platen door de jaren.
Zijn geluid is behoorlijk gemoderniseerd sinds z’n eerste
optreden met Orchestre Manta Lokoka in 1969. Op deze
uit 1990 horen we stevige soukous, zeer dansbaar materiaal.
Tchico’s ‘Voix d’Or’ bleek onverwoestbaar. Maar niet alleen
zijn stem was van goud zoals de hoes illustreert. Mocht je
nog plannen hebben voor een feestavond kun je zeker
scoren met enkele nummers van dit album ..

Today we find a quite unknown album released by Elf Congo.
Elf was a French petrol company until it went on under Total in
2021. In 1983 they released this record with their own Orchestre
Elf Music. Members are shown below. Their names are all new to
me. Maybe not the best orchestre Congolais we heard, but still,
this is a quite entertaining album. Give it a chance and let us
know what you think about it ..

De plaat die ik je vandaag wil laten horen is een tamelijk aparte.
Hij werd in 1983 uitgegeven door de Franse Elf Aquitaine, het
benzine bedrijf dat tot 2021 onder deze naam werkte en toen
verder ging onder Total. De groep hier heet Orchestre Elf Music.
Hieronder vind je de leden, geen bekende namen voor mij.
Misschien niet de allerbeste band, maar toch een tamelijk
onderhoudende plaat. Luister en laat ons weten
wat jij ervan vindt ..
