ya Mbongo, Mayaula Mayoni, Pablo Lubadika Porthos, Bopol
Mansiamina, Syran Mbenza and Verckys among others. We
had one album under his own name with Zoe Matondo.
Today we find his second solo record from 1982. Quite
enjoyable Congolese album recorded in
Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire ..

of Covid-19 myself. Managed to stay out of the wind for two years,
but one week ago it finally got me. This omikron variety feels like
having a serious cold, some muscle and back pain, but not too heavy.

What have we got for you today ? Another album with Lita Bembo
and his Stukas Mombomba Orchestra. We have heard a lot of music
from Congo over the years, but Lita’s sound is something on its own.
He was a theatrical figure, his music was like Congolese Pop-Cavacha.
Quite contageous and very uplifting, listen ..

me vorige week toch te pakken gekregen. De Omikron variant is als een
stevige neus-verkoudheid met wat lage rug- en spierpijn. Gelukkig niet
al te heftig, maar fijn dat het weer langzaam bijtrekt ..
Wat hebben we vandaag voor je ? Nog zo’n fijne plaat met Lita Bembo
en Zijn Stukas Mombombo Orkest. We hebben over de jaren veel
Congolese muziek gehoord, maar die van Lita heeft een stijl die op zich
zelf staat. Hij was een theatraal figuur en zijn muziek was als Congolese

Jacob Oluwole’s juju is reminiscent of the sound of early
Sunny Adé records. I recently found this album of which
unfortunately we can’t read the title. Its frontsleeve is
somewhat damaged over the years. No title, no year of
release. I’ve been searching the web, but without result.
If you know or have this record, please send us a picture
so we can title it, thank you in advance ..

On this album from 1977 Lanrewaju Adepoju shows his
admiration for Sunny Adé. It is in juju and ewi style. We
see him at the back sleeve with Sunny Adé, not sure if
Sunny participates. Side one sounds like him, if you
can tell us, please do ..

I’m still on the lookout for their first album, Les Gypsies
with the great Robert Martino was such a wonderful compas
group back in the seventies. This is album number II from 1973
called ‘Patience’. We had us a couple of the other records with
them from 1973, 1975 and 1976. ‘It took a whole lot of hard work
and patience, sparing no effort to reach the ultimate state of their
abilities’. Get it, spread it and listen with pleasure ..

Ik ben nog steeds op zoek naar hun eerste album, de Gypsies
met gitarist en bandleider Robert Martino was zo’n geweldige
groep in de jaren zeventig. Dit is hun tweede plaat uit 1973,
‘Patience’ genaamd. We hadden al een paar van hun andere
elpees uit 1973, 1975 en 1976. ‘Het kostte ze veel hard werk
en geduld om de ultieme staat van hun kunnen te bereiken’.

What do you think about some Cuban son for this sunday ?
We had three records and one cd so far. Most of the albums
I found with them contain doubles, songs that also appear
on others. On this Colombian release on Discos Orbe only
a few. Here in the Netherlands we have grey and wet
weather today, an album like this may cheer up
your mood. Get, spread and enjoy listening ..

Wat denk je van wat Cubaanse son voor deze grijze zondag ?
We hadden tot dusver drie elpees en één cd met hen. De
meeste platen die ik heb gevonden bevatten veel dubbels,
nummers die ook al op andere staan. Deze op het Colom-
biaanse Discos Orbe label slechts enkele. Op zo’n natte
koude dag kan deze sound ons wellicht wat opvrolijken.

When looking at Etsakor highlife and the field of artists
one person stands out like no other. Alhaji Waziri Oshomah
is here with this 1986 album on Shanu Olu Records. Waziri’s
wife Hassanah is present like on most of his records, sweet.

Als we de highlife uit Etsakor onder de loep nemen valt één
man het meest op. Alhaji Waziri Oshomah is hier met zijn
album ‘Message to My people’ op Shanu Olu Records uit
1986. Waziri’s vrouw Hassanah is ook weer van de partij.
