Les Shleu-Shleu is een Haïtiaanse groep heerlijke instrumentalisten
die keer op keer weet te verrassen. Van begin tot eind lekkere
deuntjes die je zeker niet wilt missen, luister maar..

I guess we had us about five of their albums so far and we’ve got
another bunch waiting to find their way to you. Les Shleu-Shleu is a
group of wonderful instrumentalists who succeed in surprising us

Dat is alweer een tijdje geleden, Tchico’s platen worden altijd zeer
gewaardeerd en deze zal daarop geen uitzondering vormen. Uit
1982 en op het Bellot Records label hebben we Feu Rouge. We
hadden al diverse releases uit Nigeria en nu dus uit Cote d’Ivoire.
Naast Tchico’s fijne stem horen we sprankelende gitaren,
dikke blaaspartijen en subtiel slagwerk, mis hem niet..

That has been some time ago, Tchico’s records are always very
much appreciated and this one shall not form an exception.
From 1982 and on Bellot Records we’ve got Feu Rouge. We
already had some Nigerian releases and now from Cote
d’Ivoire. Next to Tchico’s fine voice we hear sparkling
guitars, fatback horns and subtle rhythms, don’t miss..

Zo langzamerhand wordt onze GG zo groot en vol dat ik steeds vaker
de fout in ga en muziek begin te digitaliseren die even later al op de
pagina blijkt te staan. Niet zo nozel dus. Om deze blunder weer te
verdoezelen kom ik maar snel met een plaatje dat je hier zeker nog
niet gezien hebt. Kom mee naar Haïti en luister wat we daar vinden.

Our beloved GG is slowly growing to become of such proportion
that if I don’t pay attention, start to repeat myself. Not so smart.
To make up for these blunders better bring something certain
for the first time. Let’s go to Haïti and see what we find there.

Webert Sicot left Nemours Jean-Baptiste compas band and called
his music cadence to differentiate it from compas especially when
he took it abroad, and so the rivalry between Sicot and Nemours
created these names. Raymond had created a new rhythm cadence
rampa to counter compas, but it was only in a spirit of competition.
The rhythm of cadence rampa was identical to compas except for
the addition of the second drum that sounded on every fourth beat.

The Sicot brothers, Maestro Webert Sicot and brilliant composer
Raymond Sicot, well regarded in the Caribbean for their rigorous
harmonic skills, introduced the meringue-cadence to the Caribbean,
specifically the French Antilles of Martinique & Guadeloupe around
1962 where it spread to Dominica.[6] From the 60s to the 70s, Dominica,
Guadeloupe and Martinique were replete with cadence bands. A few
of them were Selecta, La Perfecta, Les Aiglons, Grammacks,
Exile One, Les Vikings de Guadeloupe,

Na een kleine adempauze zijn we vandaag weer terug met
een stukje fijne juju. Ik heb de laatste tijd veel naar dit spul
geluisterd en los van de verstopte boodschap, die we toch
niet verstaan, blijft de sound onweerstaanbaar. Uit 1978 en
op Jet Sound is dit een plaatje dat we al eerder hadden,
een re-post dus maar in een ander jasje dan voorheen..

After a short break we are back today with a fine piece of
juju. Lately I’ve been listening a lot to this stuff and part from
the hidden message, which we do not understand anyway,
the sound remains delightful. From 1978 and on Jet Sound,
this is a record we had before, in other words a re-post but
in a different sleeve than the one we posted in 2014.

uitgave is niet geheel duidelijk, het betreft een Engelse
productie, opgenomen in Accra’s Elephant Walk Studio.

Dit krachtige album is uit 1972, op Fania en komt stevig uit de verf.
Adalberto Santiago doet de vokalen, lekker hoor, luister..

Meestal is Pépé Kallé de frontzanger bij Empire Bakuba
maar op deze plaat neemt Papy Tex het voortouw. Met zijn
mooie gladde stem een flink contrast met Pépé Kallé die
natuurlijk ook passeert. Lekkere dikke sebene in nummer
twee. Kortom, een schijf vinyl die je niet wilt missen.
Soukous van de bovenste plank, dansvloer
killer, pak hem snel..

Mostly Pépé Kallé is Empire Bakuba’s frontman but on
this record it is Papy Tex who takes the lead. With his
smooth voice quite a contrast with Pépé Kallé who
passes by as well of course. Nice fat sebene in
track # two, in short, an album you would not
want to miss. Soukous of premier classe,
dancefloor killer, get it and spread it..

Dit samba elpeetje bleek ik reeds een tijd vergeten te hebben.
Tijdens de reorganisatie van m’n platen kwam ik hem weer
tegen. Heerlijke sound uit 1975, met Aroldo Santos en zijn
sambistas. Voor de liefhebbers een aanwinst..

During the reorganisation of my vinyl collection I walked against
this samba album which was in a forgotten corner. Great 1975
sound with Aroldo Santos and his sambistas. A winner
for lovers of the genre..
