Kevin Coyne (27 January 1944 – 2 December 2004) was an English
musician, singer, composer, film-maker, and a writer of lyrics, stories
and poems. He was critically acclaimed for his unorthodox style of
blues-influenced guitar composition, the intense quality of his vocal
delivery, and his lyrics describing injustice to the mentally ill. Musicians
who have described themselves as Coyne fans include Sting and
John Lydon. In the mid-1970s, prior to the formation of the Police,
Coyne’s band included guitarist Andy Summers. BBC disc jockey
Andy Kershaw described Coyne as “a national treasure who keeps
getting better” and as one of the great British blues voices. read more ..

I received a special request for this record, Sanity Stomp.
As a collector and music lover about every Kevin Coyne album
ever made finds itself on the shelf in my recordroom. He has a
special place in my heart. so many wonderful songs, I wouldn’t
know where to start telling you about it. Just listen to ‘Saviour’
and ‘Marjory Razorblade’ and start from there. Funfact; Kevin
Coyne was asked to follow up Jim Morrison after his untimely
death, but was not interested to start wearing leather pants ..

Toen Mathijs van Nieuwkerk in DWDD eens opmerkte dat van
Kevin Coyne natuurlijk nog nooit iemand gehoord had moest ik
bijna spugen van ergernis. Hij en zijn vriend Leo Blokhuis weten
echt geen reet van muziek. Alle kennis komt van het web en gaat
bijna uitsluitend over Amerikaanse muziek. Van Engelse bands
hoor je nooit iets, zeer droevig. De echte liefhebber kent het
uitgebreide oeuvre van Kevin Coyne natuurlijk wèl ! Een leuke
wetenswaardigheid; Kevin werd gevraagd Jim Morrison op te
volgen als zanger van de Doors, maar had geen interesse
om in een leren broek te stappen ..

Minzoto ya Zaïre. They made one album under the
name Ambiance-Akasavougou as far as I know. Today
we find this record in pretty good shape. Delightful
Congolese rumba / cavacha you may well appreciate.

From 1983 we’ve got this album with the Devera Ngwena
Jazz Band. A few years before Jonah Moyo’s name appeared.
What a sparkling sound. For an elpee recorded 43 years ago
it sounds like it was done yesterday. Listening to this one
is an absolute delight, be sure not to miss it ..

Good morning, the Netherlands are under a clean white
blanket. It is snowing for a couple of days now and that
gives beautiful images. You don’t hear a sound so quiet.

Musicwise we move to a place where they have never
seen snow. This album was made in Malaysia with Orkes
Al Wathan from Indonesia. The style is called Gambus
and tasts very Arabian. Normally of course one would
visit Henk Madrotter’s site to find this type of sound.
Henk is the man with 282 gambus albums . Check it ..

over sneeuw te vertellen, Kijk slechts naar buiten.

Vandaag neem ik je mee naar een streek waar men nog
nooit sneeuw heeft gezien. Deze plaat werd in Maleisië

It’s been a while sice we had us music from Nigeria’s Etsakor
region. Today we find this album with Queen Orete. She comes
with her Ijawere Dance Band. On many of her records they are
called Ijewele Dance Band. There is no year of release known
of this elpee, but that doesn’t spoil the fun of it. Nice Afenmai
sound with mellow guitar and voices. Enjoy listening ..

Een subtiel verschil. Geen jaar van uitgifte is bekend, maar dat
mag de pret niet drukken. Fijn Afenmai geluid met relaxte

One of our visitors reminded me of Gilberto Torres,
one of the great vallenato artists of who I only posted
one album. Promised to do some others, starting with
this one from 1975. We did find him on a couple of col-
lectors in the genre. Lovers of vallenato attention,
it is quite a good record ..

Éen van onze bezoekers maakte me erop attent dat we
van deze vallenato artiest slechts één album hadden tot
dusver. Ik beloofde hem er nog wat te brengen, te beginnen
met deze uit 1975. We vinden Gilberto Torres wel op enkele
verzamelaars in het genre. Liefhebbers opgelet, dit
is een tamelijk goede plaat ..

The two Portuguese-speaking African islands of Sao Tomé & Principe,
located in the Gulf of Guinea, created an unique music called puxa :
refined mixture of various musical components from both sides of
the Atlantic ocean. A blend of semba, merengue, kompas, soukouss,
coladeira patterns, often pushing forward with a voodoo-like energy,
solid bass lines, delicate melodies and backing harmonies of the rich
Sao Tomean melodic traditions. Bringing together Sao Toméan puxa
and rumba with soukous guitar rhythms. born in 1944, Lima began his
career as a teenager with his family band Os Leonenses, and was active
until his death in 2019; Lima’s support for the revolutionary MLSTP party
earned him the title of ‘the People’s Voice of the Island’.
